Raiders | Jason Witten undecided on 2021 Thu Dec 31, 01:55 AM
Las Vegas Raiders TE Jason Witten has not decided on his future with any 'certainty,' according to ESPN's Paul Gutierrez.
Footballguys view: Witten hasn't done much this year as a reserve behind Darren Waller. In 10 games, Witten has just 13 catches for 69 yards and two touchdowns. He might try to head back to the booth after his playing days are done. |

Raiders | Las Vegas officially signs Jason Witten Wed Mar 25, 08:33 PM
Free-agent TE Jason Witten (Cowboys) officially signed with the Las Vegas Raiders Wednesday, March 25. Official terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Witten gives the Raiders some veteran depth at the tight end position. They already have Darren Waller and Foster Moreau on the depth chart and Witten will work in somehow. We'll see how far up the depth chart he can move when training camp gets here. |

Raiders | Jason Witten strikes deal with Las Vegas Tue Mar 17, 04:02 PM
Dallas Cowboys impending free-agent TE Jason Witten reached agreement on a one-year deal with the Las Vegas Raiders, according to a source Tuesday, March 17. Witten can earn up to $4.75 million in 2020.
Footballguys view: Witten kind of cramps the room in Vegas where they already have Darren Waller and Foster Moreau. He's there for veteran depth but should not do much from a fantasy perspective. |

Cowboys | Jason Witten has owner's backing Fri Feb 28, 01:08 PM
Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten, an impending free agent, would be welcomed back to the team by owner Jerry Jones. 'I feel strongly he wants to play, and I think he can play,' Jones said. 'I would hope that he would not ever be anything but a Cowboy. It's meaningful. He's in the tops right there. I do think he can play. As I sit here right now I think he can make a real contribution to the Cowboys.'
Footballguys view: There had been speculation that the Cowboys weren't going to bring Witten back and instead he would reunite with Jason Garrett on the Giants roster. To be continued... |

Impending free-agent TE Jason Witten (Cowboys) made it clear to reporters Tuesday, Feb. 18, that he intends to play next season and hopes to do so with the Dallas Cowboys, although he is not opposed to finishing his career somewhere else.

Cowboys | Jason Witten to play elsewhere? Sat Feb 1, 12:49 PM
Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten, a pending free agent, said Saturday he remains undecided on retirement and is realistic about possibly finishing his career with another team.
Footballguys view: After sitting out the 2018 season, Witten proved that he could still play in 2019. There's a chance he continues playing and would certainly have interest on the open market. In fact, Witten could follow former Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett to the New York Giants where Garrett got a job as the offensive coordinator. |

Dallas Cowboys impending free-agent TE Jason Witten has not ruled out playing in 2020 and could join the New York Giants because of his connection with offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, according to sources.
Footballguys view: It would be odd to see Witten in another uniform, but anything is possible. Witten would give the Giants veteran depth at the position behind starter Evan Engram. |

Cowboys | Jason Witten close to reaching incentive Sun Dec 29, 11:47 AM
Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten has a $375,000 contract incentive that can be earned if he has at least 55 receptions this season and the team reaches the playoffs, according to multiple sources. Cowboys | Jason Witten dealt with jitters Sun Aug 18, 02:44 PM
Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten said he experienced some jitters Saturday, Aug. 17, as he made his return to live action for the first time since ending his one-year retirement. Witten caught one pass for 10 yards in the Cowboys' preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams. 'A year away from the game, all the work to get back here since March, getting in shape, getting your body ready, having an opportunity, I know I've got a lot to prove,' Witten said. 'It wasn't perfect. I thought we're on schedule with the things I want to work on. Able to get a third-down conversion. Dak showed he had the confidence on that. Some of the other things in the passing game, running game, I felt good with. It's always tricky when you're coming back out here ... so the jitters were real. A lot of work to get back to here, but it felt good.'
Footballguys view: It's...interesting a veteran like Witten would deal with jitters. He's got a ton of experience and should shake off any nervous feelings quickly. |

Cowboys | Jason Witten still a weapon Fri May 24, 09:47 PM
Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten 'hasn't lost a step' after taking a year off, according to QB Dak Prescott. 'I guess the trick is to take a year off because he's definitely gotten better, stronger and faster,' Prescott said.
Footballguys view: Witten could be the #2 most targeted receiver for the Cowboys and tap the brakes on second-year receiver Michael Gallup's growth as a fantasy factor. He'll be a fringe TE1 in PPR leagues, but could surprise and overachieve building on a lot of pre-existing chemistry with his quarterback. |

Cowboys | Jason Witten officially back Wed Mar 6, 04:25 PM
Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten was officially signed to a one-year, $2 million contract Wednesday, March 6. Witten can make up to $5 million, however. The Cowboys had to release Witten from the Reserve/Retired list before making the signing official.
Footballguys view: And here we go again. Witten should play a part-time role for the Cowboys offense this year. That is unlikely to make him much of a fantasy factor in 2019. |
Jason Witten player page
Cowboys | Jason Witten will be a factor Sat Mar 2, 09:32 PM
Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten will have a meaningful role in the offense, according to owner Jerry Jones.
Footballguys view: That may be the case but it seems like from a fantasy perspective Witten won't be anything more than a 'name' TE2 in 2019. We'll get a better feel about his usage and role when training camp hits in the summer. |

Cowboys | Jason Witten to be on snap count Thu Feb 28, 05:43 PM
Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten is expected to play around 25 snaps per game next season.
Footballguys view: That sounds about right. Witten won't be a full-time player for the Cowboys at his advanced age. He'll give them a security blanket target for QB Dak Prescott. |

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten announced Thursday, Feb. 28, he is ending his retirement after one year in the broadcast booth and returning to play for the Cowboys for what would be his 16th season.
Footballguys view: Wow. Just wow. Witten may return to the field as a part-time player for the Cowboys given the current state of their tight end position. There is speculation that Witten takes this role so that he can get back with the team and perhaps fast track his way to the coaching ranks. |

Cowboys | Blake Jarwin bursts onto the scene Sun Dec 30, 07:55 PM
Dallas Cowboys TE Blake Jarwin registered seven receptions for career highs of 119 yards and three touchdowns in Week 17 against the New York Giants on eight targets. Former TE Jason Witten never had three TDs in a game for the Cowboys.

Cowboys | Jason Witten to retire Thu May 3, 08:17 AM
Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten has informed the team he'll retire Thursday, May 3, and join ESPN as an analyst on Monday Night Football.
Footballguys view: It took long enough and the Cowboys tight end did time his decision badly, but at the end of the day he did what he needed to. The only thing worse than a last minute decision is a player who isn't fully committed. That's a way for them - and their teammates - to get hurt. |

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten 'will take some time to make a decision on his future' in regards to reports about announcing his retirement in order to become ESPN's new Monday Night Football lead analyst, according to team owner Jerry Jones.
Footballguys view: You have to wonder if the team is desperately trying to talk him into staying one more year, but will he give up what should be a lucrative Monday Night Football gig? They have more bodies if Witten walks, but none of them are his level of player. |

Cowboys | Jason Witten about to announce retirement? Fri Apr 27, 12:15 PM
Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten is reportedly planning to announce his retirement from the NFL on Friday, April 27, in order to become ESPN's new Monday Night Football lead analyst, per sources. Witten will reportedly meet with team owner Jerry Jones before making his decision final, however, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
Footballguys view: Maybe standing next to Roger Goodell during the great 2018 Draft Boo-a-thon was too much? Witten seems like a guy who has more football left, but he has little left to prove and is looking at a team where his role is becoming more and more reduced, so retirement and a big spot with ESPN makes sense and we wish him luck. |

Cowboys | Jason Witten not ready to retire yet Tue Apr 17, 09:07 PM
Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten told the Dallas Morning News' Jon Machota he hopes he can play until he's 40 and has 'no interest in taking a TV job right now.'
Footballguys view: Witten turns 36 years old in May, so he must think there's plenty left in the tank. Last year was a down season for Witten, but he still finished the year as the no.10 fantasy TE in 2017. As the Cowboys offense gets back on track this year, Witten should post better numbers. Even with an uptick in production, Witten should still be considered a low-end TE1 for fantasy owners. |

Cowboys | Jason Witten reworks deal Sat Mar 24, 02:07 PM
Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten has agreed to restructure his contract, which has created around $3.5 million in salary cap space for the Cowboys, according to sources.
Footballguys view: The Cowboys have now restructured two contracts in the last week. Both of the moves clear out about $10 million in space. Witten will continue as a favorite target of QB Dak Prescott and for fantasy owners he should post low-end TE1 numbers. |

Cowboys | Jason Witten to play in 2018 Wed Jan 3, 01:25 AM
Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten will return for his 16th NFL season in 2018.
Footballguys view: Witten and his dad-running style will be back out there for the Cowboys in 2018. He'll continue to provide Dak Prescott with the reliable receiver a quarterback needs. |

Cowboys | Week 17 game recap for Dallas Sun Dec 31, 04:00 PM
Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott went 17-for-30 for 179 yards and one touchdown against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17. RB Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 103 yards on 27 carries and caught three passes for 38 yards. WR Dez Bryant caught three passes for 24 yards during the game, while TE Jason Witten caught two passes for 17 yards.
Footballguys view: The Cowboys offense stalled out without Ezekiel Elliott and it never truly started back up after he returned. Dak Prescott was brilliant in the first half of the year, but he was unable to consistently move the offense in the second half of the year and leaves us with questions heading into next season. Bryant appeared to be in the beginning of his decline phase this year and may not be back with Dallas. |
