Panthers | Release three players    Mon Aug 31, 01:53 PM

CBSSports.com reports the Carolina Panthers have released WR Ryne Robinson, OT Gerald Cadogan and DL Lorenzo Williams.

Footballguys view: The writing was on the wall for Robinson, who was replaced as the team's return man. He'll have a shot to catch on somewhere else.

Panthers | R. Robinson might not make team    Thu Aug 27, 01:38 AM

Steve Reed, of CarolinaGrowl.com, reports Carolina Panthers WR Ryne Robinson could be on the outside looking in when it comes to claiming a spot on the team's final roster.

Footballguys view: Robinson was supposed to become the Panthers return specialist, with a shot to play slot receiver, but his pro career has been riddled with injuries.

Panthers | Moore on the rise    Thu Aug 20, 11:23 AM

David Scott, from the Charlotte Observer, reports Kenneth Moore, in his first camp with the Panthers, is competing with Jason Carter and Ryne Robinson for the No.4 receiver spot. Moore, who played at Butler High and Wake Forest, was impressive in the preseason opener against the New York Giants (two catches for 27 yards). He is the only player of those three who isn't recovering from knee surgery.

Footballguys view: We've seen players seemingly come out of nowhere time and time again, and Kenneth Moore could be the next one. The Panthers are desperate for help in their WR corps, and if Dwayne Jarrett fails in his third season, the team could move Moore up to the number three spot. Fantasy owners shouldn't rush out and draft this kid, because the Panthers will once again be a run-heavy team in 2009. Just keep his name in the back of your mind, and watch his progress through the season. Dynasty owners could look at Moore as an intriguing late round pick, with upside for the future.

Panthers | Robinson, Muhammad not practicing Wednesday    Wed May 27, 02:58 PM

Steve Reed, of CarolinaGrowl.com, reports Carolina Panthers WRs Ryne Robinson and Muhsin Muhammad were not participating in practice Wednesday, May 27. It is not known why the players were not practicing.

Footballguys view: Muhsin Muhammad is a veteran player that doesn't need the number of practice reps like younger players do. Robinson on the other hand is on the roster bubble. He's got value as a return man, but is facing tough competition from Larry Beavers.

Panthers | Larry Beavers hopes to run his way onto roster    Sun May 17, 02:57 PM

The undrafted rookie from Division III Wesley College is hoping to stick as a return man. That he averaged 39.5 yards per kickoff return and 29.2 per punt return as a senior would seem to indicate he's got a chance. He left as the NCAA's all-division record-holder with 10 kickoff return touchdowns and 13 total runbacks for scores. Throw in the 19.9 yards per catch and 28 receiving touchdowns, and his stat sheet takes on a cartoonish, video game-style impossibility.

Footballguys view: Anytime a player is coming from a DIII school they must have at least one oustanding aspect to their game. For Beavers, it's his world-class speed. There's a video of him on Youtube running a 4.28 40-yard dash, and his coach clocked him once at 4.25. Larry Beavers is not just super fast, he has good field vision and ankle breaking moves in the open field. While he may never contribute much as a receiver, he is going to battle Ryne Robinson for the job of returner in training camp and could have an immediate impact in 2009.

Panthers | Robinson leading candidate for return job    Sat May 16, 02:07 PM

Steve Reed, of CarolinaGrowl.com, reports Carolina Panthers WR Ryne Robinson is the leading candidate for the team's kickoff and punt return duties this season.

Footballguys view: Ryne Robinson was a fantastic return man in college, and some scouts considered him to be even more dangerous than Devin Hester. He was also a favorite target of Ben Roethlisberger at Miami (OH) but he's failed to develop as a receiver so far in the pros. He could give Carolina a distinct advantage on special teams but Robinson has had trouble staying healthy so far in the NFL.
