In the wake of the season-ending injury to Tennessee Titans LB Zack Brown, the Titans held auditions on Friday, Sept. 12, for linebackers to replace Brown in the lineup. | Footballguys view: The Falcons created $6.5 million in salary cap space by releasing these two. Samuel's best days are past, but there should be some teams interested in him for veteran depth. Nicholas was largely a backup in 2013, but has plenty of starting experience and can contribute on special teams. |

LB Joplu Bartu and DE Jonathan Massaquoi will fill in for LB Sean Weatherspoon (foot) and DE Kroy Biermann (Achilles'), respectively. LB Jamar Chaney is the No. 2 strongside linebacker behind LB Stephen Nicholas, and LB Omar Gaither is the backup at weakside linebacker behind Bartu. LB Paul Worrilow is the backup to LB Akeem Dent at middle linebacker.

'I'm fairly confident that when we start our mandatory minicamp that both of those guys will be out there,' Smith said. 'They have done probably more workload over on the side with the trainers than what they would put in during a particular practice. We think they're real close. We want to make sure that they get another couple of days with the trainers before we bring them out.'
