Footballguys view: Edwin Baker hung around on the team's practice squad, but he was overtaken by UDFA Michael Hill. Former Seahawks third-round pick Deon Butler hasn't been the same since breaking his leg in 2010.

The Seattle Seahawks have re-signed free-agent WR Deon Butler. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. In a corresponding move, the team placed WR Charly Martin (calf) on Injured Reserve.

Footballguys view: Butler knows the system and was among the final cuts at the end of camp earlier this year. He gives the team more veteran depth but we're not going to see Butler as much of a fantasy factor.

Lions | Work out several WRs    Wed Oct 24, 12:14 PM

The Detroit Lions worked out several wide receivers Tuesday, Oct. 23, and could sign one this week. Free-agent WRs Legedu Naanee (Dolphins), Brian Robiskie (Jaguars) and Deon Butler (Seahawks) were among the receivers that took part in the workout.

Footballguys view: The Lions are in the market for a WR because of the season ending injury to Nate Burleson. Titus Young and rookie Ryan Broyles will compete to take Burleson's spot on the depth chart.

Seahawks | Deon Butler, Ben Obomanu fighting to make team     Wed Aug 29, 02:28 PM

Seahawks | Ben Obomanu, Golden Tate top depth chart    Tue Aug 14, 10:21 PM

Seattle Seahawks WRs Ben Obomanu and Golden Tate sit atop the team's initial preseason depth chart. WRs Deon Butler and Kris Durham are listed as the second-team receivers, with WRs Braylon Edwards and Charly Martin as the third-teamers. WR Terrell Owens is not listed among the Top Six, and neither are WRs Doug Baldwin (hamstring), Ricardo Lockette (leg) and Sidney Rice (shoulder), who have been dealing with injuries.

Footballguys view: This is meaningless as the depth chart only includes receivers who are ready to play this weekend.

Seahawks | Deon Butler on the bubble?    Wed Jul 11, 09:05 AM

Seattle Seahawks WR Deon Butler is on the roster bubble heading into training camp. Butler and WR Mike X. Williams will be in the thick of what might be the hottest roster competition in camp.

Footballguys view: Butler has never been the same since a grisly leg injury in 2010. Doug Baldwin does a lot of the same things and his emergence has made Butler's spot very shaky.

Seahawks | Trio of receivers no lock to make roster    Tue Jul 10, 12:18 AM

Seattle Seahawks WRs Deon Butler, Ben Obomanu, and Mike X. Williams might be in the thick of what could be the hottest roster competition in training camp. The team currently has 13 wide receivers on the roster. The team kept six receivers on their 53-man roster last season, as well as 2007 and 2008. They kept five receivers in 2006, 2009 and 2010.

Footballguys view: The Seahawks currently have 13 WRs on their roster. Guys like Phil Bates, Kris Durham, Jermaine Kearse, Cameron Kenney, Ricardo Lockette, Charly Martin and Lavasier Tuinei are trying to find a way to make the team. We like Durham the best out of this bunch because of his size/speed combination and natural ball skills. Durham plays a lot like former Broncos WR Ed McCaffrey and is not afraid to run routes over the middle.

Seahawks | Deon Butler injury update    Tue Jul 26, 04:35 PM

Seattle Seahawks WR Deon Butler (leg) has been able to run and cut as he makes his recovery from a significant leg injury last season. Butler's status entering training camp is a question. He said he is able to run shorter routes at game speed, but said he hasn't been able to do the same for longer routes so far. He feels it may be another month before he is at game speed.

Footballguys view: Butler was a favorite sleeper of many last year, but if the injury has robbed him of any quickness or speed, it will be hard for Butler to make an impact again.

Seahawks | Deon Butler able to run routes    Thu Jun 30, 01:56 PM

Seattle Seahawks WR Deon Butler (leg) appears to be healed from the broken leg he suffered in December and has been able to run some routes recently. Butler indicated that he is probably not at the speed he was before the injury.

Footballguys view: Butler is a decent receiver when fully healthy, but this injury may put him on the roster bubble during training camp. The Seahawks may bring in a veteran free agent WR once the lockout is lifted which would further cramp the depth chart.

Seahawks | Deon Butler says he is progressing    Sat Jun 4, 02:50 AM

Seattle Seahawks WR Deon Butler (leg) said Friday, June 3, that he is progressing well from surgery to pair his broken tibia and fibula. He was able to jog, but did not participate in any team drills with teammates.

Footballguys view: Butler will take it easy during players only workouts so as not to aggravate the leg injury. If healthy we like Butler as a reliable receiver on underneath routes. However, this is a make or break year for him as injuries and inconsistencies have held him back so far in his career.

Seahawks | Rotating wide receivers during practice    Tue Oct 12, 12:39 PM

Seattle Seahawks WRs Deon Butler and Ben Obomanu worked at flanker during practice Monday, Oct. 11, reports Clare Farnsworth, of Seahawks.com. WR Brandon Stokley also saw a lot of work in the slot when the team was using three-receiver sets. The Seahawks were using a variety of combinations at wide receiver, as WRs Mike X. Williams and rookie Golden Tate also saw some action working at split end. Williams has been the primary split end so far this season.

Footballguys view: With Deion Branch back in New England it has led to shuffling of the wideouts in Seattle. Golden Tate could be the primary beneficiary here as his playing time could really increase. He's flashed big time ability in limited action so far this year but some feel he's a star in the making.

Seahawks | Deon Butler impressing head coach    Wed Sep 22, 07:18 PM

Seattle Seahawks WR Deon Butler has been a real playmaker for the team so far this season, according to head coach Pete Carroll, reports Danny O'Neil, of The Seattle Times. When Carroll first joined the team and watched film on the players from last year, he thought Butler was a long ways away from being a factor for them. However, a strong offseason later and Carroll said Butler was the one player that improved the most from last year. Carroll said the team is going to continue to utilize him and they love his speed. 'He can really take the top off a defense,' Carroll said.

Footballguys view: Butler could end up being the most valuable WR on the Seahawks, but that doesn't mean he'll have much fantasy value.
