Chiefs | Brown not pushing Pollard Thu Aug 13, 08:32 PM
Adam Teicher, from the Kansas City Star, reports the Chiefs signed veteran safety Mike Brown shortly before camp to challenge Bernard Pollard for his starting spot. The competition hasn't materialized and may in fact be finished. "I'm definitely out here competing but I realize my role," said Brown, who played nine seasons for Chicago but became a free agent when the Bears made no effort to re-sign him.

Chiefs | Brown presents more danger to Pollard than Page Sun Jul 5, 06:16 PM
Kent Babb, of the Kansas City Star, reports that free agent acquisition S Mike Brown is more likely to take Bernard Pollard's strong safety job than Jarrad Page's free safety job, even though Brown is a natural free safety. Babb calls Pollard's tackling "atrocious at times" and writes he "must show improvement", although he points out that Brown is there to push both young starting safeties and "either way, Brown will be a factor."
Footballguys view: That doesn't even account for the threat that 2008 third round DaJuan Morgan presents over the long term. Pollard and Page were both top 10 fantasy safeties last year, but the presence of Brown creates too much risk to take them there this year. |

Chiefs | M. Brown agrees to terms Wed Jun 24, 12:10 PM
Adam Teicher, of The Kansas City Star, reports the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to terms with free-agent SS Mike Brown (Bears). Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Brown could challenge either SS Bernard Pollard or FS Jarrad Page for a starting job.
Footballguys view: It's hard to know exactly what the Chiefs expect from Brown until we hear the terms of the contracts, but this is not a rousing endorsement of the trio of young safeties on the roster, especially 2008 draft pick DaJuan Morgan, who probably won't have a chance to push for a starting job now. |

Chiefs | M. Brown to visit Wed Jun 3, 02:07 AM
Brad Biggs, of The Chicago Sun-Times, reports unrestricted free-agent S Mike Brown (Bears) will visit with the Kansas City Chiefs Wednesday, June 3.
Footballguys view: The Chiefs are thin at Safety with Bernard Pollard and Jarrod Page penciled in as the starters right now. If signed Brown could push for a starting job, and he remains motivated to prove that he's still a starting caliber player in this league. |
