Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick relegated to bench    Tue Oct 20, 11:37 AM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will be replaced as starter after the Week 7 bye by QB Tua Tagovailoa.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick has done his job and the team is ready to move on. This was the team's plan all along, it just comes as a bit of a surprise as Fitzpatrick has mostly played well this season and the Dolphins are 3-3 heading into their Week 7 bye.

Dolphins | Tua Tagovailoa taking the reins    Tue Oct 20, 11:36 AM

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa was named starting quarterback in Week 8 after the team's bye this week.

Footballguys view: We all knew this day would come...the timing is just interesting. Tagovailoa has the upside to be a franchise quarterback -- something the Dolphins have not had since the days of Dan Marino. They have a bye in Week 7 to give the rookie first-round pick more time to get ready to go. Fantasy GMs in 2-QB leagues or superflex formats should be adding Tagovailoa on the waiver wire this week.

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (groin) suffered a groin injury during the Week 6 game and is considered questionable to return.

Footballguys view: Parker luckily has a bye next week but this is now his second soft tissue injury problem this year. It's possible Preston Williams could be the #1 for some games this year and don't forget Mike Gesicki in the passing game even though he was overshadowed by Adam Shaheen today.

Dolphins | Austin Jackson headed to IR    Fri Oct 9, 12:47 PM

Miami Dolphins OT Austin Jackson (foot) will be placed on the Reserve/Injured list, the team said Friday, Oct. 9.

Footballguys view: Jackson had been playing very well and was ahead of schedule in his development despite being a first round pick that came with high expectations. Julie'n Davenport, Jesse Davis, and second round pick Robert Hunt are all candidates to replace him. This could delay the move to Tua Tagovailoa until the line is solidified.

Dolphins | OC discusses Mike Gesicki's recent production    Tue Oct 6, 05:20 PM

Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki has been limited to one catch on three targets for 15 yards in each of his last two games following a Week 2 outburst in which he amassed eight catches for 130 yards and a touchdown. Offensive coordinator Chan Gailey attributed the recent downturn to tighter coverage from opponents and not wanting to force the ball to him when it looks like he is double-covered.'A few times it's looked like they were double-covering him and they ended up single-covering him; but to the quarterback on his first look, it looked double covered, so (Ryan Fitzpatrick) got off of him. We just have to pay closer attention to how they are actually playing him during the course of the game. I think hopefully now that we've put the ball in other places, things will start to come back his way,' Gailey said.

Footballguys view: Fantasy GMs may have a decision to make on whether or not to keep Gesicki on their roster. He had 11 receptions in the first two games of the 2020 season only to have one catch in back-to-back games. A quarterback change is coming soon for the Dolphins, and perhaps rookie first-round pick Tua Tagovailoa will favor Gesicki as a security-blanket target.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick to start Week 5    Tue Oct 6, 09:43 AM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick was confirmed the starter for Week 5 by head coach Brian Flores.

Footballguys view: We're all waiting for Fitzpatrick to get benched. The Dolphins have 2020 first-round pick Tua Tagovailoa as a potential franchise quarterback and he'll be starting for them eventually. Fitzpatrick is doing his usual hot-and-cold routine and is only a bridge quarterback until the Dolphins deem Tagovailoa ready.

Dolphins | Miami being cautious with Tua Tagovailoa    Mon Oct 5, 02:23 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa (hip) has 'checked all the medical boxes,' but head coach Brian Flores told reporters Monday, Oct. 5, that he's in not in a hurry to name him the starter.'If it was my kid and he had a serious injury like that, I wouldn't want his coach to be in a rush to put him in there because of media pressure. ... No one is going to pressure me into doing anything,' Flores said.

Footballguys view: Ryan Fitzpatrick is flailing as the starter...with a few flashes here and there...just like we all expected from Fitzpatrick. Tagovailoa can be the team's franchise quarterback, something they've been searching for since Dan Marino retired 20-plus years ago. It's wise for the team to take it easy on him as he comes back from the hip injury that cut his final season at Alabama short.
