Dolphins | Jordan Howard to be busy? Fri Jul 3, 11:34 PM
Miami Dolphins RB Jordan Howard could 'come close to doubling' the number of carries RB Matt Breida will receive, according to Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com.
|Footballguys view: Wolfe is one of the best Dolphins beat writers, so we're certainly paying attention to this report. Howard should be the lead back and by a wide margin when it comes to carries. Breida can work as a change-of-pace back and should be the primary pass-catching back in 2020. His current ADP is RB34 (7.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.|

Dolphins | Kamu Grugier-Hill may push for starting job Fri Jul 3, 04:54 PM
Miami Dolphins LB Kamu Grugier-Hill may push LB Raekwon McMillan for one of the starting inside linebacker jobs during training camp.
|Footballguys view: The Dolphins defense is still in flux in year two of the Brian Flores regime, as they have moved on from some players drafted before Flores was hired, so we should be open to bigger roles for new acquisitions like Grugier-Hill, who got two million dollars guaranteed on a one-year deal. McMillan, a 2017 second-round pick, hasn't gotten on track after he tore his ACL in his rookie preseason.|

Dolphins | Shaq Calhoun may be on bubble Wed Jul 1, 06:09 PM
Miami Dolphins OG Shaq Calhoun may not make the final roster this upcoming season since the team added C Ted Karras, OG Ereck Flowers, OG Donell Stanley, OG Solomon Kindley and OG Robert Hunt during the offseason.Link to story
Dolphins | Nik Needham may see drop in snaps Wed Jul 1, 06:05 PM
Miami Dolphins CB Nik Needham was on the field for 780 defensive snaps last season but probably will see a drop on his snaps because the team added CBs Byron Jones and Noah Igbinoghene during the offseason.Link to story
Dolphins | Davon Godchaux quick to the ball Tue Jun 30, 09:24 PM
Miami Dolphins DL Davon Godchaux registered 33 of his career-high 75 tackles within two yards of the line of scrimmage in 2019 - the most such stops by an interior defender last season.Link to story

Dolphins | Jordan Howard likely for goal line work Mon Jun 29, 11:25 AM
Miami Dolphins RB Jordan Howard is likely the top choice for carries anywhere near the goal line, according to beat writer Joe Schad.
|Footballguys view: No surprise here. Howard is the big-bodied back who can make his living between the tackles. He can be very effective on short-yardage and goal-line situations. He should be splitting time with Matt Breida in the backfield. Howard has a current ADP of RB35 (7.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.|

Dolphins | Several WRs to compete for spots Sun Jun 28, 02:37 PM
Miami Dolphins WRs Allen Hurns, Gary Jennings and Isaiah Ford will be among the receivers to compete for one or two spots on the final roster.
|Footballguys view: The Dolphins have DeVante Parker, Preston Williams and Albert Wilson as their top three wide receivers. Behind them, Jakeem Grant should make the team due to his ability as a return man. That leaves one or two spots open for Hurns, Jennings or Ford. Jennings is learning multiple positions this offseason and certainly has the most upside of the three. Hurns is the seasoned veteran who is good for about 20 catches a year. Ford was thrust into a larger role over the last month of the 2019 season and finished with 21 catches over that four-game stretch. We'll see if that momentum helps him win a spot on the 53-man roster this year.|

Dolphins | Curtis Weaver training at LB Fri Jun 26, 06:28 PM
Miami Dolphins DE Curtis Weaver has been working out at linebacker and edge rusher this offseason even though the team has him listed as a defensive end on the roster.Link to story
Dolphins | Gary Jennings learning multiple positions Fri Jun 26, 06:20 PM
Miami Dolphins WR Gary Jennings has been learning the slot receiver position as well as the boundary receiver position this offseason. He is expected to compete for one of the final receiver spots on the roster.
|Footballguys view: Jennings was a fourth-round pick of the Seahawks in the 2019 NFL draft but he was waived in the fall and picked up by the Dolphins...where he was hurt in his first game. He's got the size, measuring at 6'1" 215 pounds and that could come in handy from the slot. In college at West Virginia, Jennings used his size to keep defenders away from the ball and was known as a good route-runner. We'll keep an eye on him in deep dynasty formats.|

Dolphins | Matt Breida excellent before contact Tue Jun 23, 09:01 PM
Miami Dolphins RB Matt Breida is tied with Denver Broncos RB Phillip Lindsay for second in the NFL since 2017 in yards before contact at 2.4 per carry, trailing only Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson (3.1) over that span.
|Footballguys view: Breida knows how to create his own space as a runner, with speed, quickness or elusiveness. He was with the 49ers and that zone-blocking system does a world of good for runners, so we'll see what kind of numbers Breida can post now that he's with the Dolphins. Jordan Howard is at the top of the depth chart right now, but Breida is right behind him and could thrive if thrust into more of a full-time role.|

Dolphins | Tua Tagovailoa begins worth with team doctors Tue Jun 16, 06:11 PM
Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa (hip) relocated to South Florida over the weekend and began training at the team's Davie facility Monday, June 15. 'He's a little bit ahead as far as where we would like him,' said Kevin Wilk, a renowned physical therapist who had been working with Tagovailoa. 'We're constantly trying to slow him down just a little bit because an athlete like that is just chomping at the bit just begging to get back out there. He wants to do more and more so we have to hold him back. And really, that was from the beginning. He always wanted to do more.'
|Footballguys view: Tagovailoa is hopefully going to be the franchise quarterback the Dolphins haven't had since the days of Dan Marino. If healthy, Tagovailoa certainly has an elite-level skill set as an athlete and as a passer. We'll see him compete with Ryan Fitzpatrick for the starting job this season.|
Dolphins | Preston Williams made hay downfield Sun Jun 14, 06:48 PM
Miami Dolphins WR Preston Williams' depth of reception average of 14.3 yards was the highest by any rookie receiver with at least 40 targets in 2019, according to Sports Info Solutions.
|Footballguys view: Williams did a great job last year as a rookie before he got hurt and was lost for the season. He had ACL surgery in November but should be ready for the start of the regular season. Williams is a WR5 with upside and flex appeal in 2020.|

Dolphins | Another positive update for Tua Tagovailoa Sun Jun 14, 06:06 PM
Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa is doing 'miraculously well' as he continues his recovery from the fractured hip he suffered late last season, according to his Alabama-based physical therapist Kevin Wilk.'He's doing miraculously well. The miraculous part is that he healed so well. The second part is, he's been (doing so good at) getting his strength back, which usually takes a long time after something like this. He's laser-focused. One of the most focused I've ever seen, to be honest,' Wilk said.
|Footballguys view: We can't rely on these reports until we see Tagovailoa's practice participation in camp, but this is certainly what you wanted to hear if you are rooting for the #5 pick to start sooner than later. He will be a downgrade from Ryan Fitzpatrick for the Dolphins passcatchers' fantasy prospects when he takes over, but maybe not a significant downgrade with his advanced accuracy and anticipation.|

Dolphins | Two UDFAs to compete for No. 4 DT job Fri Jun 5, 06:16 PM
Miami Dolphins DTs Ray Lima and Benito Jones are expected to compete with DT Zach Sieler for the No. 4 defensive tackle job during training camp.
|Footballguys view: Lima got $27,000 and Jones $25,000 so the Dolphins see some potential there, but the team could also keep only three defensive tackles, so their best long-term opportunity might come after a stay on the practice squad. Lima was a three-year starter at Iowa State and Jones was a former five-star prospect and Freshman All-SEC first team and Freshman All-American third-team at Ole Miss.|
Dolphins | Jonathan Hubbard to work at OG, OT Fri Jun 5, 06:09 PM
Miami Dolphins OT Jonathan Hubbard said part of the reason he signed with the Dolphins is that they plan to line him up at both offensive guard and offensive tackle.
|Footballguys view: Hubbard got $35,000 guaranteed and picked Miami out of three teams, in part because of his conversation with Brian Flores. The Dolphins offensive line is under construction, so there could be opportunity there down the line for him. Hubbard was part of a line at Northwestern State (La.) that gave up a sack on only 3.9% of their 517 pass attempts with him in the lineup.|
Dolphins | Tyshun Render to work at several spots Fri Jun 5, 06:04 PM
Miami Dolphins DE Tyshun Render will be used at defensive end, but the team also plans to work him out at outside linebacker.Link to story
Dolphins | Tyshun Render financials Thu Jun 4, 07:52 PM
Miami Dolphins DE Tyshun Render received $65,000 guaranteed, including a $15,000 signing bonus on his three-year rookie contract, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: He got the highest guarantee of any undrafted rookie added by the Dolphins this year. They are going to cross-train him at defensive end and outside linebacker. Bill Belichick went to Tennessee to personally work Render out in February and reportedly the Patriots asked him to commit to them if he went undrafted, but Render declined and the Patriots ended up not being one of the four teams to make Render an offer after the draft.|
Dolphins | Malcolm Perry expects to move around Wed Jun 3, 08:56 PM
Miami Dolphins WR Malcolm Perry expects to be asked to play at running back and wide receiver this upcoming season. He has been working on his running and receiving skills this offseason.
|Footballguys view: Perry could even be used as a gadget quarterback from time to time. He is incredibly athletic and can make defenders look silly in the open field. We'll see if he can impress enough to earn a spot on the 53-man roster.|

Dolphins | Malcolm Perry inks rookie deal Tue Jun 2, 03:02 PM
Miami Dolphins seventh-round RB/WR Malcolm Perry signed his four-year rookie contract Tuesday, June 2, according to a source. Financial terms were undisclosed.
|Footballguys view: In 2019, Navy QB Malcolm Perry became the first FBS quarterback to rush for over 2,000 yards in a single season. Perry is slippery in the open field and he does a good job of making moves without losing much speed. We'll see what kind of role he can carve out with the Dolphins, perhaps having to spend time on their practice squad before he gets his chance in the regular season. We'll monitor him in crazy deep dynasty formats.|
Dolphins | Michael Deiter may be option at center Mon Jun 1, 04:56 PM
Miami Dolphins OG Michael Deiter may be an option at center in addition to guard during training camp.Link to story
Dolphins | Mike Gesicki popular in red zone Sun May 31, 10:26 PM
Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki was one of four tight ends to see double-digit end zone targets during the 2019 season.
|Footballguys view: Gesicki is a huge target and can make plays 'above the rim' in the end zone. He took a huge leap forward in 2019, finishing as the no.11 fantasy tight end in standard-scoring leagues. He is at least a low-end TE1 with upside for Fantasy GMs in 2020 as he continues to develop.|

Dolphins | Preston Williams busy prior to injury Sun May 31, 05:26 PM
Miami Dolphins WR Preston Williams (knee) attracted at least seven targets in six of his eight games last season, including nine in the Week 9 win over the New York Jets in which he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament. In the four games in which he logged at least 50 offensive snaps, Williams also compiled at least eight targets, four catches and 68 yards receiving three times.
|Footballguys view: Williams looked good before he went down with a knee injury. He's had plenty of time to fully recover but we're expecting the team to ease him into action when training camp rolls around. We'll see if he can look like his old self in the preseason.|

Dolphins | Tua Tagovailoa's mentorship going well Sat May 30, 01:04 PM
Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa has been taking part in virtual team quarterback meetings on Zoom, and veteran QB Ryan Fitzpatrick says things are going well as he tries to live up to his promise of being an open book for the rookie. 'We've been going over some of that stuff, and my mind and the process and how I think through it, right or wrong, just to provide some perspective,' Fitzpatrick said. 'I'm excited for him to be here. I loved watching him play in college. I think he's going to be an awesome addition to the team for a long time.'
|Footballguys view: Tagovailoa is the quarterback of the future for the Dolphins. At this time, nobody knows if he's going to start in 2020 or if the team is going to give him a 'redshirt' year behind Fitzpatrick. The team will have to see how he performs in person when camps open up. He's mostly recovered from the hip surgery that cut short his 2019 season at Alabama and could win the starting job at some point during the year...even right at the beginning of the season. However, most speculate that he will begin 2020 as a backup and take over if (when?) Fitzpatrick struggles.|

Dolphins | Albert Wilson may be top slot option Fri May 29, 06:57 PM
Miami Dolphins WR Albert Wilson appears to be the leading candidate for the slot receiver job this upcoming season.
|Footballguys view: Wilson should be the slot receiver and no.3 on the depth chart behind DeVante Parker and Preston Williams. That doesn't make him much of a fantasy factor in 2020 as Wilson could catch around 40 passes this year.|

Dolphins | Three RBs may compete for one spot Fri May 29, 06:44 PM
Miami Dolphins RBs Patrick Laird, Kalen Ballage and Myles Gaskin may compete for one roster spot during training camp if the team decides to keep only four running backs on the final roster.
|Footballguys view: Ballage may be the player most think could win the job. He's got the size and the speed, plus he's a decent receiving option. However, Ballage failed to impress last year with his awful 1.8 yards per carry average. We'll see if he can bounce back and win what could be the final spot on the depth chart at running back.|

Dolphins | Miami expected to use two RBs Fri May 29, 06:41 PM
Miami Dolphins RBs Jordan Howard and Matt Breida are both expected to receive solid playing time this upcoming season, but it is not known which one will start.
|Footballguys view: Howard is the power back who could be used to pick up short-yardage situations. He may also be the favored back when the team is near the end zone. Breida is the big-play back with the ability to hurt a defense as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. We're seeing Breida come off the board at RB36 (8.04) and Howard at RB39 (8.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.|

Dolphins | Gary Jennings receives high praise Thu May 28, 10:20 PM
Miami Dolphins WR Gary Jennings 'put on a clinic' during a recent seven-on-seven exercise, according to trainer Pete Bommarito.'His routes were outstanding. We're talking about two straight hours going against some of the top defensive backs in this league. He was a 4.3 guy (at West Virginia) and is still a 4.3 guy. I had All-Pro cornerbacks on those fields (last Friday), and they said he's the real deal. All he needs is a shot. He has all the skills to be big time,' Bommarito said.
|Footballguys view: Jennings was a fourth-round pick for Seattle in the 2019 NFL draft. Coming out of West Virginia, Jennings showed a game that was all about speed. When he arrived in Seattle, Jennings could not do enough to stay with the team and was waived. His athletic profile gave him a second chance in the NFL with the Dolphins but he is currently buried on the team depth chart. We'll see if he can impress in training camp and earn a spot on the 53-man roster.|

Dolphins | Danny Isidora 100 percent Thu May 28, 09:45 PM

Dolphins | Albert Wilson quicker than ever? Thu May 28, 09:39 PM
Miami Dolphins WR Albert Wilson is one of several Dolphins players working out with longtime trainer Pete Bommarito this offseason, and Bommarito says it has been Wilson's best. 'Wait until you see him run,' Bommarito said. 'This is the fastest I have seen him. Not only does he have that bad-ass shifty side and quick feet, but you look at his second gear and he looks spectacular. You will see the second gear this year.'
|Footballguys view: If healthy, Wilson should catch around 35-40 passes for the Dolphins this year as a reserve receiver. That doesn't make him much of a fantasy factor no matter how much his quickness has improved.|

Dolphins | Tua Tagovailoa could play as a rookie Tue May 26, 08:36 AM
Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa could play if he wins the job at some point this season, according to sources. The team would prefer to start QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, but the coaches aren't opposed to starting Tagovailoa.
|Footballguys view: Tagovailoa is the franchise quarterback the Dolphins have been searching for since Dan Marino retired. If healthy, he could end up being one of the best quarterbacks in the game. Tagovailoa is coming off hip surgery and we could see Fitzpatrick begin the regular season as the starter. If Fitzpatrick struggles as the starter, then the team could turn things over to the rookie.|
Dolphins | DeVante Parker lit it up on go routes Thu May 21, 10:21 PM
Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker was the only receiver in the NFL last season to score at least four touchdowns on go routes, according to Pro Football Focus.
|Footballguys view: Parker has good speed but his ball-tracking ability is what makes him stand out on these plays. He also has 'late hands' and does not tip off that a pass is coming in until the last possible second.|

Dolphins | Malcolm Perry listed as running back Thu May 21, 05:51 PM
Miami Dolphins WR Malcolm Perry is listed as a running back on the team's official roster, but he is also expected to be used as a slot receiver and possible returner.
|Footballguys view: Perry was a college quarterback at Navy, but the 2020 seventh-round pick could work as a Julian Edelman-type in the NFL. He averaged 7.1 yards per carry and can easily make defenders miss in the open field.|
