Bills | Stefon Diggs tweaks contract    Wed Aug 5, 04:01 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Stefon Diggs restructured his contract Tuesday, Aug. 4, according to a source. He'll receive an extra $3.3 million in 2020, an extra $7.7 million in guaranteed money but a decrease of $300,000 cash in 2021 and a drop from $25.55 million to $22.67 million in 2022-23 cash.

Footballguys view: Diggs is going to be the primary Bills receiver in 2020. He's been working this offseason to establish chemistry with QB Josh Allen. If Allen can play better and throw with better accuracy, then Diggs could pay off for Fantasy GMs as a WR2 with upside. It's going to be a wild ride if you want to start Diggs on a weekly basis.

Buffalo Bills WR Cole Beasley (back) was placed on the Active/Non-Football Injury list Wednesday, July 29.

Footballguys view: Reports indicate that Beasley should be back in action soon. He'll work as the slot receiver with Stefon Diggs and John Brown doing work on the outside. Beasley has some flex appeal in deep PPR leagues.

Buffalo Bills DT Star Lotulelei will voluntarily opt out of the 2020 NFL season, according to a source Tuesday, July 28.

Bills | Two TEs may not make team    Sat Jul 18, 04:46 PM

Buffalo Bills TEs Jason Croom and Nate Becker likely will need to have strong training camps if they want a chance to earn a spot on the final roster, in the opinion of BillsWire's Justin DiLoro.

Footballguys view: Croom is a former wide receiver, which makes him notable for deep dynasty fantasy leagues, but his window of opportunity with the Bills appears to have passed.

Bills | Josh Allen last in uncatchable passes    Sat Jul 11, 10:26 AM

Buffalo Bills WR Josh Allen had the highest rate of uncatchable passes thrown in 2019 at 27 percent, according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: This should come as no surprise as Allen's deep accuracy took a step back last year. Stefon Diggs and John Brown will split the downfield targets at wide receiver, and if Allen can't be more accurate, both could become unreliable plays from week to week.

Bills | Jaquan Johnson a breakout candidate    Sat Jul 11, 10:04 AM

Buffalo Bills S Jaquan Johnson is tabbed by Mark Gaughan of The Buffalo News as a 2020 breakout candidate after playing 43 percent of the special teams snaps last season.

Footballguys view: Johnson got to play defense late last season and made a pick that was nullified by penalty, while looking competent as a deep free safety and hard-nosed in run support. He's a name to remember in deep IDP dynasty leagues if Jordan Poyer or Micah Hyde get hurt.

Bills | Jake Fromm an underdog for No. 2 job    Sat Jul 4, 06:46 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Jake Fromm probably will be an underdog for the No. 2 quarterback during training camp since he did not have any practice this offseason and because QB Matt Barkley has a better understanding of the offense.

Footballguys view: That sounds about right for the 2020 fifth-round pick. Fromm was a three-year starter in college at Georgia and known as a game manager as a quarterback. He lacks impressive physical skills but he's an accurate passer who does a good job of leading his receivers. Fromm has the makings of a capable reserve quarterback for his NFL career.

Bills | Gabriel Davis to make immediate contribution?    Sat Jul 4, 12:59 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Gabriel Davis could be 'a plug-and-play weapon' for the team this season, according to Maddy Glab of the team's website.

Footballguys view: Davis is a big-bodied deep threat on the football field. In college at UCF, Davis compiled 620 receiving yards (out of 1,241 in 2019) on deep passes -- a mark good for no.4 in the FBS. He's limited as a route runner but has the speed to take the top off the defense. We're excited about Davis from a dynasty perspective.

Bills | Zack Moss to bring thump to backfield    Sat Jul 4, 12:51 PM

Buffalo Bills RB Zack Moss is expected to play a role similar to the one that Frank Gore enjoyed in 2019, according to general manager Brandon Beane.

Footballguys view: The rookie from Utah reminds some in the scouting community of Browns RB Kareem Hunt. Moss is incredibly elusive and fun to watch with the rock in his hands. He's got a low center of gravity and great footwork which allows him to change direction on a dime. Moss is a work-in-progress as a receiver and will work as the no.2 back behind second-year pro Devin Singletary in 2020.

Bills | More chances for John Brown?    Wed Jul 1, 09:25 PM

Buffalo Bills WR John Brown's production will be helped and not hurt by the addition of WR Stefon Diggs, according to QB Josh Allen. 'I think this is going to give him an opportunity to have more chances to catch the ball,' Allen said. 'Man-to-man, he's extremely tough to cover.'

Footballguys view: Brown isn't going to draw the toughest coverage anymore in 2020. Diggs should get an opponents no.1 cornerback, leaving Brown to match up against a no.2 corner. Brown's speed allows him to get by defenders in the blink of an eye. He was fairly consistent, with a few big games, last year in the first 11 weeks of the 2019 season. After that, Brown's production was low except for one game. We'll see if he can be a bit more consistent in 2020 all season long.

Bills | Stefon Diggs excels on contested catches    Sun Jun 28, 06:53 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Stefon Diggs has hauled in a league-high 60 percent of his contested catch opportunities since 2016, according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: Diggs did that with the Vikings last year but should continue such success with his new team this season. QB Josh Allen has a lot of work to do as a passer as he struggles with pass placement. Having a receiver like Diggs should help him look better as the veteran receiver can go get passes that might be a little bit off target.

Bills | Josh Allen has bulked up    Sat Jun 27, 09:50 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen added muscle to his upper body this offseason, according to his personal quarterback coach, Jordan Palmer. 'He's in crazy shape and spinning it great,' Palmer said.

Footballguys view: Bulky quarterbacks usually aren't great passers, so Allen needs to be careful here. It's good to add strength as he's a running quarterback and will take a lot of extra punishment because of it. However, he doesn't want to get too bulky and have that interrupt his development as a passer. Allen has say-it-don't-spray-it accuracy and needs to have better pass placement all over the field. He's got a rocket arm but his deep accuracy left a lot to be desired in 2019...same goes for his short-to-intermediate accuracy. We'll see if Allen can look better as a passer, bulked up and all, in 2020.

Bills | Stefon Diggs a big hit on long throws in 2019    Thu Jun 25, 09:23 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Stefon Diggs scored a league-high three touchdowns on passes targeted at least 40 yards downfield as a member of the Minnesota Vikings in 2019, according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: Diggs was traded to the Bills this offseason with the idea that he could be the deep target for the offense as the no.1 receiver. QB Josh Allen is a work in progress as a passer...all over the field. He has a big arm but he has say-it-don't-spray-it accuracy, and his deep passes -- while far -- lack touch and accuracy. We'll see how much Diggs helps out his young quarterback in 2020.

Bills | Josh Allen struggles with deep passes    Wed Jun 24, 05:41 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen was on target on only 31 percent of passes that traveled at least 20 yards down the field, according to Pro Football Focus. The average in the NFL was 43 percent.

Footballguys view: Allen has poor pass placement. It's not just accuracy, it's where you put the ball and how you can lead your receivers to maximize yards after the catch. We'll see if more time and experience, plus the addition of WR Stefon Diggs, can help Allen be better when throwing deep.

Bills | Screen plays good to Isaiah McKenzie    Sun Jun 21, 06:01 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Isaiah McKenzie amassed 101 yards on screen passes in 2019 - the fourth-highest total of any receiver in the league.

Footballguys view: McKenzie has more value to the Bills as a gadget player than he does to Fantasy GMs. He won't touch the ball much but when he does, McKenzie has the quickness and speed to make plays.

Bills | Coach confident in Matt Barkley    Sun Jun 21, 01:05 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Matt Barkley is expected to be the No. 2 quarterback this season, and head coach Sean McDermott said he has confidence in Barkley.

Footballguys view: That should end any talk of fifth-round round Jake Fromm potentially costing Barkley a roster spot. Barkley can keep the pass offense semi-functional if he is called on, which is possible since Josh Allen shows no regard for his health when he is outside of the pocket.

Bills | Isaiah McKenzie may make roster    Fri Jun 19, 06:25 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Isaiah McKenzie has a good chance to make the final roster because he can be used multiple ways on offense.

Footballguys view: McKenzie is a multi-purpose weapon who can work on jet sweeps, on screen passes and on short routes that he can turn into long gains. He failed to make an impact with the Broncos, but McKenzie seems to have found a home in Buffalo. He's a gadget player for the Bills and that limits his fantasy value.

Bills | Zack Moss under contract    Mon Jun 15, 03:28 PM

Buffalo Bills third-round draft choice RB Zack Moss signed a four-year contract with the Buffalo Bills Monday, June 15. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Moss has a fine three-down skill set and does a good job with his physical tools. He's a tough runner who can catch cleanly out of the backfield. Moss forced a whopping 89 missed tackles in 2019 (2nd in the FBS) and he broke 33 tackles on 66 catches in his college career. He lacks elite-level speed but he moves efficiently and changes direction without losing much speed.

Bills | E.J. Gaines may push for starting job    Sun Jun 14, 03:33 PM

Buffalo Bills CB E.J. Gaines is expected to compete with CBs Josh Norman and Levi Wallace for one of the starting cornerback jobs during training camp.

Footballguys view: This should be a spot that is targeted frequently no matter who wins the job. Norman is considered well past his prime and might be the best for opposing fantasy matchups. His best years came with Sean McDermott so that could give him an edge in the competition. Breshad Perriman or Denzel Mims will get to test the winner Week 1.

Bills | Josh Allen surrounded by continuity    Sat Jun 13, 02:56 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen will be running an offense which returns a league-most 95.4 percent of its 2019 snaps.

Footballguys view: Allen needs to get better himself if the Bills are to take the next step. With Tom Brady playing in Tampa, the AFC East is wide open for the first time in years. The Bills are a team who could win the division and make a postseason run...if Allen can improve his game. New addition WR Stefon Diggs should help.

Bills | Stefon Diggs making impression    Sat Jun 13, 12:31 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Stefon Diggs made an instant impression on QB Josh Allen when the two were able to work together recently in Florida. 'It was very, very awesome to see just the amount of detail that he puts into his craft, how communicative he was, how willing he was to learn,' Allen said of Diggs. 'And he wasn't there for himself. He was there for the betterment of the team and wanted to hang out with the guys and wanted to learn and get to know the guys and I thought that was pretty special. You hear all these crazy stories in the media, and I think he's had a bad rep where he was at.'

Footballguys view: Diggs is the best wide receiver that Josh Allen has ever thrown to...college or pro. He should be able to integrate quickly as the top target for the Bills. Diggs can go get catches others can't and that should help Allen's completion percentage all over the field. If Allen can improve his pass placement, that's only going to be a bonus for a player like Diggs who has wheels and moves after the catch.

Bills | John Brown saved Josh Allen on deep throws    Mon Jun 8, 10:07 PM

Buffalo Bills WR John Brown caught 10-of-26 deep targets from QB Josh Allen in 2019, resulting in a 38.5 completion percentage and 109.5 passer rating on those throws. All the other Bills combined to catch four of Allen's 37 deep pass attempts, greatly contributing to Allen's league-worst 22.2 percent completion rate on deep passes last season.

Footballguys view: Allen did not look good throwing deep last year...but he did look better when targeting Brown. That should continue in 2020 and hopefully things improve when Allen is not going after the speedy veteran. The Bills went out and traded for Stefon Diggs, and he should help Allen look better this season...not only on long passes but all across the field.

Bills | Stephen Hauschka top option for now    Mon Jun 8, 04:10 PM

Buffalo Bills PK Stephen Hauschka is the leading candidate for the kicker job at this point, according to special teams coordinator Heath Farwell. PK Tyler Bass will need to outperform Hauschka during training camp and the preseason in order to win the job.

Bills | Zack Moss the total package?    Sat Jun 6, 09:27 PM

Buffalo Bills RB Zack Moss has the qualities the team is looking for in a running back, according to offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. 'He's tough, hard-nosed, downhill guy that for being a bigger body guy still has the ability to make people miss in short spaces,' Daboll said. 'We really, really like that the toughness that he ran with.'

Footballguys view: Moss should be the first option at the goal line, but Josh Allen hurts the upside of that role with his strength and size as a runner. Moss can also pass block and catch well, making him a third-down and no huddle offense candidate.

Bills | Cole Beasley excelled in red zone    Sat Jun 6, 04:32 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Cole Beasley caught all eight of his red-zone targets in 2019 and scored five touchdowns within the opposition's 20-yard line.

Footballguys view: Beasley is dangerous on underneath routes and has great hands. He'll continue to serve in the same role for the Bills passing game this year. Beasley was a low-end WR3 for Fantasy GMs last year and has deep flex appeal once again in 2020.

Bills | Stefon Diggs tops in downfield yardage in 2019    Wed Jun 3, 09:13 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Stefon Diggs led the league with 635 yards on plays in which he caught the ball at least 20 yards downfield, according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: That's one of the main reasons why the Bills traded so much to secure the services of Diggs. Now, QB Josh Allen needs to get better at throwing accurate passes down the field. He's got a big arm, perhaps the strongest in the NFL, but he needs better control and pass placement at all levels of the field.

Bills | Josh Allen in rare company    Sun May 31, 09:37 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen has 17 rushing touchdowns in 27 career starts. Only free-agent QB Cam Newton (Panthers) has had more rushing touchdowns in his first 27 starts.

Footballguys view: Allen uses his legs to make plays, and that makes him an appealing QB1 for Fantasy GMs. He could really take his game to another level if he improves as a passer. The Bills helped him out by trading for WR Stefon Diggs earlier this year. We'll see how much that improves Allen's game in 2020 and beyond.

Bills | Stefon Diggs only working with Josh Allen    Sun May 31, 12:37 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Stefon Diggs has only worked with QB Josh Allen during drills at the recent workouts in Florida.

Footballguys view: Allen and Diggs should be the top duo for the Bills and their passing attack this year. The Bills needed an upgrade at the position and they get that when they traded for Diggs. Allen needs to be more accurate and have better pass placement but having a receiver like Diggs (who can go up and get it no matter where the throw is placed) should greatly help. Allen's rushing ability makes him a potential top-10 fantasy quarterback. If Allen plays better, then Diggs could easily outperform his current ADP of WR21 (5.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bills | Josh Allen works out with pass catchers    Fri May 29, 05:13 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen worked out with several of the team's pass catchers in Florida Thursday, May 28, including WR Stefon Diggs. RB Devin Singletary, WRs John Brown, Isaiah McKenzie, Nick Easley, WR Gabriel Davis and Isaiah Hodgins and TEs Dawson Knox, Tommy Sweeney, Jason Croom and Nate Becker were among the players participating in the workout.

Footballguys view: The Bills have a new-look passing attack in 2020 with the addition of WR Stefon Diggs. He should be the no.1 receiver for Josh Allen this year, opening things up for other guys in the passing attack like WR John Brown and TE Dawson Knox. If Allen takes further steps as a passer, this team could be in line to win the AFC East.
