Week 11: at Miami Dolphins

All TE vs MIA

FBG says: Good matchup. Josh Allen has made minor strides as an NFL passer in his second season, but he's still not producing any fantasy gold with his arm. Allen is fully capable of tough downfield completions, but remains a serious work in progress on the delivery. Throwing just 32 passes a game, there's not much productivity in this attack (213 yards and 1.1 touchdown). Allen hasn't thrown an interception since Week 5, but has flirted with several. He still puts more than his share of erratic balls into the air. Of course, that's also sometimes a blessing for big-play wideout John Brown, who's quietly served as a solid fantasy starter. Brown hasn't reached 100 yards since Week 1, but he's yet to fall below 51 in any game as Allen's most consistent target by far. Slot specialist Cole Beasley flashes with a big play in most games, but beyond that, this attack is anyone's guess. Newcomer Zay Jones could work his way into the mix this week, and speedy Robert Foster saw his snaps double last Sunday. Last year, Allen and Foster connected for 425 yards over the final 6 weeks. Altogether, this certainly isn't a deep unit, and its ceiling isn't great with such low volume and efficiency. Beyond Brown, there's little fantasy payoff here. On paper, the Miami pass defense has improved mightily over the past 5 weeks, allowing opponents just 6.6 yards per attempt on a 57% completion rate. But it must be noted that they built those numbers against a comically weak quarterback schedule: Case Keenum, Josh Allen, Mason Rudolph, Sam Darnold, and Brian Hoyer (without TY Hilton, even). In other words, they actually allowed that run of passers to meet (or even exceed) their low expectations. With top cornerback Xavien Howard on injured reserve, there's little proven talent or even continuity in the secondary. Eric Rowe and Ken Crawley have long been beatable down the field, and safety Bobby McCain remains a liability as well. Opponents have attacked the Dolphins on all levels; nine different pass-catchers have topped 75 yards through 9 games. In this matchup back in Week 7, John Brown turned 6 targets into 83 yards and a touchdown. With Howard on the shelf, it's hard to find any Dolphin who projects to slow him.

Recent Game Summaries

2019 Week 10 vs CLE (6 / 4 / 55 / 0 rec)

Dawson Knox had a good game against the Browns in a loss on Sunday. Knox was split out regularly in the formation as a pass receiver during the game with Lee Smith serving as the primary blocking tight end. Knox had a strong reception on a play action crossing route and had two opportunities for a bigger game. The first was a back shoulder throw that was too wide along the sideline and the second a target in the end zone that was broken up. Knox adds a physical and athletic element to the offense that Buffalo does not have a receiver and should continue to see occasional if unpredictable weeks where he gets six targets like he did this week. He will face the Dolphins next week.

2019 Week 5 vs TEN (5 / 2 / 12 / 0 rec)

Dawson Knox had a down game against the Titans on Sunday. He had two short catches but dropped two third down targets. He will look to bounce back after a bye in week seven against the Dolphins.

2019 Week 4 vs NE (3 / 3 / 58 / 0 rec)

Dawson Knox continued his strong play against the New England Patriots in week four. Knox made a strong catch along the sideline and added two other catches that had strong run after the catch efforts. Knox will face a tough Tennessee defense next week.

2019 Week 3 vs CIN (4 / 3 / 67 / 1 rec, 1 / 9 / 0 rush)

Dawson Knox had the best game of his young career against the Bengals. The breakout game included his first career touchdown on a goal-line play-action pass into the flat. Knox also had a highlight run after the catch where he broke multiple tackles to set the Bills up for their game-winning touchdown. Knox is consistently physical with the ball in his hands and adds an additional element to the Buffalo offense that has had limited tight end production in the first two weeks of the season. He will look to continue his strong play next week against the Patriots.

Our View: Knox is only a what the heck tight end, but he has upside because of the Miami matchup. You'll have to check back Sunday to be sure of his availability. Durability was a problem in college and part of the reason such a supreme athlete lasted well into the draft.
