  Titans | A.J. Brown a big-play WR in 2019    Thu Jul 2, 03:19 PM

Tennessee Titans WR A.J. Brown recorded six receptions of at least 50 yards in 2019. No other receiver in the NFL had more than four receptions of at least 50 yards.

Footballguys view: Brown was highly efficient as a rookie year. Most believe he can not possibly sustain that level, but he can improve in his second year and he can also get more volume as the clear #1 receiver going into this season. You'll probably have to spend a third round pick if you want him.

Titans | Logan Woodside may have edge in competition    Sat Jun 27, 02:55 PM

Tennessee Titans QB Logan Woodside may have an edge over QB Cole McDonald for the No. 2 quarterback job because he is more familiar with the offensive scheme, in the opinion of TennesseeTitans.com's Jim Wyatt.

Footballguys view: Woodside has experience while McDonald is the rookie in the mix. McDonald was a gunslinger during his college career at Hawaii, constantly attacking all levels of the field with his arm. Woodside was a seventh-round pick of the Bengals in the 2018 NFL draft. During his college career at Toledo he threw a whopping 73 touchdowns over his final two seasons with the Rockets. We'll see this battle unfold in training camp and the preseason.

Titans | A.J. Brown in rare air    Mon Jun 22, 10:28 PM

Tennessee Titans WR A.J. Brown averaged 12.5 yards per target as a rookie in 2019 - the fifth-best mark for a receiver with at least 40 catches since targets started getting tracked in 1992.

Footballguys view: Brown is going to go in the top 50 of drafts and potentially even the third round. His numbers with Ryan Tannehill back that up. If pass defenses focus on him, it could be a breakout year for Corey Davis. Brown's efficiency from last year will be tough to sustain, but his volume could take a big enough jump to more than make up for it.

Titans | Cole McDonald under contract    Mon Jun 22, 04:15 PM

Tennessee Titans seventh-round draft choice QB Cole McDonald agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the Titans Monday, June 22. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: McDonald is a player we are watching in deep dynasty formats. During his college career at Hawaii, McDonald showed that he wasn't afraid to attack all levels of the field as a passer. He is confident in his arm and is known as a rhythm passer. McDonald wasn't asked to make full-field reads in college and he'll have to learn how to work better from under center as he primarily operated out of the shotgun. He'll compete for a spot in the pecking order behind starter Ryan Tannehill.

Titans | Derrick Henry productive after contact    Sun Jun 21, 01:25 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry has averaged 4.5 yards per carry after contact over the last two seasons.

Footballguys view: A lot of that is coming on chunk plays once Henry breaks into the second level of the defense. He could set career highs this year if Ryan Tannehill plays 16 games.

Titans | A.J. Brown outstanding on play action    Thu Jun 18, 06:45 PM

Tennessee Titans WR A.J. Brown recorded 646 receiving yards on play action passes during the 2019 season, which ranked first in the NFL.

Titans | Ryan Tannehill deadly over the middle    Mon Jun 15, 09:05 PM

Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Tannehill posted an NFL-best passer rating of 154.2 on throws over the middle of the field in 2019, according to Inside Edge NFL.

Footballguys view: Tannehill works the middle of the field and will pick his spots when to attack down the field. He is helped by a tremendous ground game which opens things up as defenses jam the box to stop the run. Tannehill's primary weapons in the passing game are WR A.J. Brown and TE Jonnu Smith, and they should continue getting targeted early and often in 2020.

Titans | Jonnu Smith saw a lot of short stuff in 2019    Sun Jun 14, 07:40 PM

Tennessee Titans TE Jonnu Smith's depth of reception average of 4.9 yards was the fourth-lowest mark by any receiver or tight end with at least 40 targets in 2019, according to Sports Info Solutions.

Footballguys view: Smith worked well as a security blanket for QB Ryan Tannehill. He took over or Delanie Walker last year as the veteran couldn't stay healthy, and Smith had a career-high 35-catch season. The Titans are a run-first offense, so Smith's numbers could be quite similar this year...making him a low-end TE2 for Fantasy GMs in 2020.

Titans | Dennis Kelly may be top option at RT    Sun Jun 14, 04:38 PM

Tennessee Titans OT Dennis Kelly likely will be the leading candidate for the right tackle job over OT Isaiah Wilson because he has experience in the offense, in the opinion of TennesseeTitans.com's Jim Wyatt.

Footballguys view: Wilson projects as a long-term road grader at right tackle, but he probably isn't ready for NFL pass rushers yet. The Titans reached a bit for him in the first round, but he is a good fit for their offense. Kelly is a quality swing tackle and has been good when filling in for Jack Conklin and Taylor Lewan since coming over from Philadelphia in the Dorial Green-Beckham trade in 2016.

Titans | Ryan Succop not a target at this point    Thu Jun 11, 06:31 PM

Titans | Tennessee talking with Derrick Henry    Thu Jun 11, 06:21 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry's agent has talked with the Titans multiple times over the last few weeks regarding a long-term contract for Henry, according to general manager Jon Robinson.

Footballguys view: Henry signed his franchise tag back in early April. He's now on the books for a one-year, $10.2 million price tag. In mid-July there is a deadline for all franchise-tagged players to reach a new long-term deal. We'll see if the Titans can get something done with Henry to keep him around for years.

Titans | Coaches still high on Corey Davis?    Sun Jun 7, 09:10 PM

Tennessee Titans WR Corey Davis is still well liked by the coaching staff, according to Jim Wyatt of TennesseeTitans.com, but Wyatt believes Davis is playing for his future with the team in 2020.

Footballguys view: Davis was outplayed last year by rookie A.J. Brown. His fifth-year option was declined so this is his final season under contract with the Titans. The former first-round pick has talent and is worth taking a chance on late in your draft just in case he puts up good numbers in a contract year.

Titans | More rush opportunities for Rashaan Evans?    Sun Jun 7, 07:31 PM

Tennessee Titans LB Rashaan Evans is a 'star in the making' in the opinion of beat writer Jim Wyatt, who believes he will be given more opportunities to 'get after the quarterback' after logging 2.5 sacks in 2019.

Titans | Adoree' Jackson could see a lot of slot snaps    Sun Jun 7, 06:01 PM

Tennessee Titans CB Adoree' Jackson could assume a different role in the secondary in 2020, including the possibility of logging extensive snaps as the nickel in sub packages.

Footballguys view: The Titans will need to replace Logan Ryan's impactful play from the slot and Jackson certainly has the quickness and speed to match up with slot receivers and experience outside to match up with #1 receivers when they move inside on passing downs. Tennessee is hoping he earns the fifth-year option they picked up for 2021.

Titans | Jack Crawford to be pushed for starting job    Sun Jun 7, 03:03 PM

Tennessee Titans DT Jack Crawford is the leading candidate for one of the starting spots on the defensive line but is expected to compete with DE Isaiah Mack and DT Larrell Murchison for the job. All three probably will receive snaps at the position during the season.

Footballguys view: The Titans have a hole to fill after trading Jurrell Casey to the Broncos for a seventh-round pick. Casey is 30 and due over 11 million dollars this year, but he is still a top option. The Titans haven't done anything with the extra cap room yet, but some have said they could sign Jadeveon Clowney.

Titans | Timmy Jernigan not an option yet    Sat Jun 6, 06:21 PM

Free-agent DT Timmy Jernigan (Eagles) has not received any interest from the Tennessee Titans at this point, according to TennesseeTitans.com's Jim Wyatt.

Footballguys view: The Titans have an opening on the line after curiously trading Jurrell Casey to the Broncos for a seventh-round pick with no corresponding move to indicate why they wanted to open up that cap room. Jernigan did not take a physical and was cleared by a spinal specialist after previously having neck issues. The Seahawks could be a landing place for him.

Titans | Darrynton Evans' role uncertain    Sat Jun 6, 06:20 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Darrynton Evans' role will be determined on how much he will be able to handle, according to head coach Arthur Smith. Evans probably will be used when RB Derrick Henry needs a rest.

Footballguys view: Evans is a hard-charging running back who understands angles and will hit the hole quickly. He's not a power back like Henry, but the rookie from Appalachian State handled a large workload in college and didn't cough up the rock. He had 467 touches over the last two years without a fumble. That reliability means the Titans could count on him when Henry needs a breather.

Titans | Derrick Henry's carries may vary    Wed Jun 3, 06:05 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry's carries will change depending on how each game is going this upcoming season, according to offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

Footballguys view: Henry is going to be the centerpiece of the offense, and he should be able to post at least RB2 numbers for Fantasy GMs on a weekly basis. He won't be used much as a receiver out of the backfield because that's not his forte. However, he should get a heavy workload as a runner which boosts his fantasy value.

Titans | OC expects Corey Davis to improve    Wed Jun 3, 04:50 PM

Tennessee Titans WR Corey Davis made some big plays last season and should improve his play in 2020, according to offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

Footballguys view: Davis was outplayed by rookie A.J. Brown last year. We'll see how he continues to mesh with QB Ryan Tannehill this season and Davis has the talented to be worth taking a chance on late in your fantasy drafts. With improved play, he could climb back into high-end WR3/flex levels for Fantasy GMs in 2020.

Titans | Two QBs will compete for backup job    Wed Jun 3, 04:39 PM

Tennessee Titans QBs Logan Woodside and Cole McDonald will compete for the backup quarterback job during training camp, according to offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

Footballguys view: Woodside has bounced around the league a bit since the Bengals drafted him in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL draft. McDonald is the rookie from Hawaii who is a rhythm thrower who loves to take a lot of chances with the football. With only three quarterbacks on the roster, these two should get plenty of work in training camp and the preseason.

Titans | Derrick Henry unfazed by stacked boxes    Thu May 21, 10:56 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry led the league with 106 carries against defenses with eight or more defenders in the box in 2019, according to ESPN's Matt Bowen. Additionally, he ranked third in the league among running backs with 5.4 yards per carry on those rushing attempts.

Footballguys view: Henry is tough to slow down, stacked boxes or no. The fear with a stacked box is if Henry gets through the first wave then he has the speed to make a house call from anywhere on the field. Good luck stopping him in 2020 as Henry will continue to be the battering ram for the Titans offense.

Titans | A.J. Brown in rare company    Wed May 20, 09:27 PM

Tennessee Titans WR A.J. Brown in 2019 became the first rookie since Hall of Famer Randy Moss (1998) to have a minimum of 50 catches, 1,000 receiving yards and five touchdowns while averaging 17-plus yards per catch, plus four touchdown catches of 50-plus yards, according to Jim Wyatt of the team's website.

Footballguys view: The Titans have something special with the 2019 second-round pick. Brown is also the only NFL rookie since 1970 with 1,000-plus receiving yards and an average of 20-plus yards per reception, and he led the NFL with 605 receiving yards over his final six games of the regular season.

Titans | A.J. Brown working out with teammate    Wed May 20, 07:47 PM

Tennessee Titans WR A.J. Brown said he has been working out with QB Logan Woodside and catches passes from him two to three times a week. Brown planned to work out with QB Ryan Tannehill this offseason before the restrictions.

Footballguys view: Brown is getting work in with the Titans backup, and he'll get back with Tannehill when restrictions are lifted. The second-year pro should continue to progress as a pro. He just showed us the tip of the iceberg last year as a rookie. This year, Brown could finish as a top-5 fantasy receiver. He was the no.8 fantasy WR last year in standard-scoring leagues.

Titans | Three-step drops suit Ryan Tannehill    Sun May 17, 05:19 PM

Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Tannehill completed 96 of his 138 pass attempts for 1,356 yards, 12 touchdowns and two interceptions on three-step drops in 2019. Those marks allowed him to post a league-best 123.9 passer rating on three-step drops.

Footballguys view: Three-step drops allow Tannehill to make quick decisions with the ball. The Titans run the ball really well and that usually makes defenses pay more attention to Derrick Henry. When Tannehill has to throw, the team likes to make things quick and decisive for the veteran quarterback.

Titans | Tennessee could look for veteran No. 2 QB    Sat May 16, 06:09 PM

Tennessee Titans QBs Logan Woodside and Cole McDonald are expected to compete for the No. 2 quarterback job during training camp, but the Titans could consider signing a veteran backup quarterback if neither of the quarterbacks impress during camp, in the opinion of TennesseeTitans.com's Jim Wyatt.

Footballguys view: The Titans won't add anyone like Cam Newton, who could be a threat to Ryan Tannehill at the top of the depth chart. Instead, look for a veteran like Joe Flacco (when healthy) to potentially be an option for the Titans as they look for veteran experience in the QB room behind Tannehill.

Titans | Ryan Tannehill excelled on difficult throws    Thu May 14, 06:09 PM

Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Tannehill led all qualified passers in 2019 with a completion percentage over expected of plus-8.0 percent, according to Next Gen Stats. The stat measures the difference between a QB's actual completion percentage and expected completion percentage based on the level of difficulty of their throws.

Footballguys view: Tannehill looked like a different quarterback during his time with the Titans last year. He was able to make difficult throws and receivers like A.J. Brown came through for him in a big way. We'll see if he can repeat and continue his performance this year now that the Titans have paid him a big price.

Titans | Jonnu Smith working out with QB    Wed May 13, 03:48 PM

Tennessee Titans TE Jonnu Smith said he has been working out with QB Ryan Tannehill at a local park over the last few weeks so they can improve their chemistry.

Footballguys view: Smith took over for Delanie Walker for the Titans last year. Walker failed to stay healthy again, and the team moved on from the veteran this offseason. Smith posted career-best numbers in 2019 and could best those totals in 2020. He was the no.17 fantasy tight end last year (standard-scoring leagues) and could break into low-end TE1 range with the role all to himself. His current ADP is TE18 (13.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Senior vice president of business operations and chief legal officer Burke Nihill replaces Underwood as the team president.
