Dolphins | Miami not pursuing two top FAs Fri Jul 10, 03:13 PM
Free-agent OG Larry Warford (Saints) and CB Logan Ryan (Titans) has not received serious interest from the Miami Dolphins this offseason.
|Footballguys view: Both represent upgrades for many teams, and Warford would be especially needed on the rebuilt offensive line, but the Dolphins aren't interested in short-term solutions on the line, and they just spent a first-round pick on a corner after giving two others big contracts. When teams get an up close look at what they have at corner and guard, Warford and Ryan will get signed this summer.|

49ers | Teez Tabor clears waivers Tue Jul 7, 05:47 PM
Updating previous stories, San Francisco 49ers CB Teez Tabor cleared waivers Tuesday, July 7, and is now officially a free agent.
|Footballguys view: Tabor (foot) recently underwent surgery to repair a Jones fracture in his foot, according to a source. He is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season. We should see some team interested in him after the start of the regular season but just as veteran depth.|

NFL | Teez Tabor underwent surgery Mon Jul 6, 06:22 PM
Free-agent CB Teez Tabor (foot) recently underwent surgery to repair a Jones fracture in his foot, according to a source. He is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season.
|Footballguys view: The 49ers waived Tabor on Monday. He was on the 49ers practice squad for most of the 2019 season and signed a futures deal with them for 2020. If he's ready for the start of the regular season, we imagine some team will sign him for veteran depth after/around Week 1.|

49ers | Jamar Taylor joining SF Mon Jul 6, 03:05 PM
Free-agent CB Jamar Taylor (Falcons) signed a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers Monday, July 6. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: This is Taylor's seventh team since he came into the NFL as a second-round pick for the Dolphins in the 2013 NFL draft. Now entering his age-30 season, Taylor has not looked like a decent player since 2018. It will be difficult for him to rejuvenate his career and may not make the 53-man roster. If he does make the team, it's only for veteran depth at the position.|

49ers | Teez Tabor waived Mon Jul 6, 03:05 PM
San Francisco 49ers CB Teez Tabor (undisclosed) was waived Monday, July 6, with a Non-Football Injury designation.
|Footballguys view: Tabor was a second-round pick out of Florida in the 2017 NFL draft. The Lions selected him but Tabor did not make it through final cuts last preseason and spent most of 2019 on the 49ers practice squad. He's only 24-years old and has good size for the position. Tabor should latch on with a third NFL team at some point this year.|

Panthers | Jordan Chinn may have multiple roles Sun Jul 5, 03:12 PM
Carolina Panthers CB Jeremy Chinn said he participated in video meetings with several defensive groups this offseason and believes he will be able to line up at multiple positions.
|Footballguys view: Chinn should be a box safety and very valuable right away in IDP leagues playing on a team that is likely to trail a lot this year. He should be drafted in redraft leagues along with being a top 3 safety in dynasty rookie drafts.|
49ers | K'Waun Williams locks up slot receivers Thu Jul 2, 09:26 PM
San Francisco 49ers CB K'Waun Williams allowed a passer rating of 69.3 in the slot in 2019 - the second-best mark of any player with at least 200 snaps inside - according to Pro Football Focus.
|Footballguys view: Williams has been a strength of the 49ers secondary. He's poised to cash in as an unrestricted free agent next year. Tyler Lockett and Cooper Kupp get to face him twice a year for at least one more season.|

Seahawks | Two could share nickel back snaps Thu Jul 2, 07:17 PM
Seattle Seahawks CB Ugo Amadi and S Marquise Blair could share playing time at the nickel back position this upcoming season and alternate depending on the matchup.
|Footballguys view: The Seahawks used Mychal Kendricks in their nickel package often last year and had a true nickel defensive back on the field fewer times than any other team. Amadi could be targeted a lot if he doesn't improve from his rookie year performance last season and Blair was drafted more to play the Kam Chancellor role than nickel back. This area of transition will be tested early and often by opposing passing games.|
Ravens | Tavon Young ready Thu Jul 2, 11:16 AM
Baltimore Ravens DB Tavon Young (neck) is ready to go. 'He looks healthy on the computer,' defensive coordinator Don 'Wink' Martindale said last week, via the team's official website. 'He says he's healthy. He's ready to go. Tavon is ready to go, and if he tells me he's ready to go, I believe in him 100 percent. And he'll be ready to go, so I'm excited about that.'
|Footballguys view: The team also brought back Jimmy Smith in free agency, so they should be as strong from 1-4 at corner as any team in the league. The Ravens defense will be breaking in two rookie linebackers, but they added Calais Campbell up front to help a pass rush that doesn't have any impact players on the edge other than Matt Judon, who is coming back this year on the franchise tag.|

Seahawks | Several may compete for returner job Sat Jun 27, 02:56 PM
Seattle Seahawks WR Penny Hart, WR John Ursua, WR David Moore, RB DeeJay Dallas, RB Travis Homer and S Ugo Amadi may compete for the punt returner job during training camp.
|Footballguys view: We think Hart could be the guy with the edge here. He was undrafted out of Georgia State in 2019 (Colts) but did flash in the pre-draft process, especially when he was at the Senior Bowl. He's lightning quick and has speed to his game to boot. That could work well as a return man and reserve receiver for Seattle in 2020.|

Packers | Josh Jackson not a lock for roster Sat Jun 20, 06:40 PM
Green Bay Packers CB Josh Jackson could be a possible trade or release candidate if he fails to show improvement during training camp.
|Footballguys view: The 2018 #37 overall pick took a step back last year and didn't start or record a pass breakup. The Packers appear to be souring on him with two years left on his rookie deal.|

Philadelphia Eagles CB Darius Slay has forced 50 incompletions since the start of the 2017 season - tied for the second-highest total in the league over that span - according to Pro Football Focus.

Chicago Bears CB Kyle Fuller has forced 50 incompletions since the start of the 2017 season - tied for the second-highest total in the league over that span - according to Pro Football Focus.
|Footballguys view: Fuller has been a success since the Bears passed on his fifth-year option, transition tagged him, and then matched Green Bay's four-year, $56 million dollar offer in 2018. He'll face Kenny Golladay and the Lions in Week 1.|

Patriots | Stephon Gilmore superb at breaking up passes Sun Jun 14, 05:27 PM
New England Patriots CB Stephon Gilmore has forced a league-high 54 incompletions since the start of the 2017 season, according to Pro Football Focus.
|Footballguys view: Gilmore's worst game of the year was against DeVante Parker in Week 17 and that's who he will face in Week 1. He was playing at the highest level of his career last year, but if Parker has success opposing quarterbacks could test Gilmore more in 2020.|

Bills | E.J. Gaines may push for starting job Sun Jun 14, 03:33 PM
Buffalo Bills CB E.J. Gaines is expected to compete with CBs Josh Norman and Levi Wallace for one of the starting cornerback jobs during training camp.
|Footballguys view: This should be a spot that is targeted frequently no matter who wins the job. Norman is considered well past his prime and might be the best for opposing fantasy matchups. His best years came with Sean McDermott so that could give him an edge in the competition. Breshad Perriman or Denzel Mims will get to test the winner Week 1.|

Titans | Adoree' Jackson could see a lot of slot snaps Sun Jun 7, 06:01 PM
Tennessee Titans CB Adoree' Jackson could assume a different role in the secondary in 2020, including the possibility of logging extensive snaps as the nickel in sub packages.
|Footballguys view: The Titans will need to replace Logan Ryan's impactful play from the slot and Jackson certainly has the quickness and speed to match up with slot receivers and experience outside to match up with #1 receivers when they move inside on passing downs. Tennessee is hoping he earns the fifth-year option they picked up for 2021.|

Redskins | Jimmy Moreland hoping to show versatility Sun Jun 7, 05:18 PM
Washington Redskins CB Jimmy Moreland is expected to get some work in covering the slot this summer, and if he is able to show well inside, it would allow the team to move Kendall Fuller into a safety role in some sub packages, according to ESPN's John Keim.
|Footballguys view: Washington is going to be experimenting to find the right combination in the defensive backfield coming off of an offseason with no practices. They'll need to hope that their defensive line featuring five first-round picks gets enough pressure to mask their growing pains. Philadelphia gets to test them in Week 1.|
Kendall Fuller player page
Redskins | Kendall Fuller may see time at safety Sun Jun 7, 04:30 PM
Washington Redskins CB Kendall Fuller will be used primarily at slot cornerback this season, but the team would like to use him at free safety in some defensive packages.
|Footballguys view: Washington has the best defensive line in the league, but their secondary is surely lacking. They brought back Fuller this year after trading him to Kansas City in the Alex Smith trade and he's expected to be an anchor of the group no matter where he lines up.|

Chargers | Mike Davis to be pushed for job Sun Jun 7, 01:56 PM
Los Angeles Chargers CB Mike A. Davis is expected to be pushed by CB Brandon Facyson for one of the starting cornerback jobs during training camp.
|Footballguys view: Facyson was an easy target for opposing quarterbacks last year, so if he can beat out Davis, that's probably a bad thing for Chargers.|
Chargers | Chris Harris expected to be slot CB Sun Jun 7, 01:43 PM
Los Angeles Chargers CB Chris Harris Jr. is expected to be used primarily as the slot cornerback this upcoming season even though can play outside cornerback and safety as well.
|Footballguys view: Desmond King was previously in the slot for the Chargers and he played well, so there could be a trade market there since the Chargers like their starters outside, Casey Hayward and Michael Davis.|

Rams | Troy Hill expected to start Sat Jun 6, 07:04 PM
Los Angeles Rams CB Troy Hill is expected to start opposite CB Jalen Ramsey this upcoming season.
|Footballguys view: The Rams put a lot of trust in Hill when they traded Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib during the season last year, and he came through. With Ramsey on the other side, Hill should get targeted a lot, which is a foundation for cornerback IDP value.|
Vikings | Cameron Dantzler may push for starting job Fri Jun 5, 08:31 PM
Minnesota Vikings CB Cameron Dantzler may have the chance to compete for one of the starting cornerback jobs during training camp but probably is not considered one of the leading candidates.Link to story
Bengals | William Jackson trade offers rebuffed Fri Jun 5, 12:21 PM
Cincinnati Bengals CB William Jackson III (labrum) was the target of 'mutliple' trade inquiries from other teams before the trade deadline last season, and the Bengals turned all of them down.
|Footballguys view: Jackson was considered a rising star at cornerback at one point, but playing through a torn labrum last year lowered his level of play. The team signed Trae Waynes this offseason, but Jackson is back on his fifth-year option and the Bengals could still sign him to a long-term deal if he bounces back. If not, it sounds like his services are still wanted elsewhere and a trade could get done before the deadline.|
