Eagles | Offense Not a Great Fit for Jalen Hurts?    Mon May 17, 02:56 PM

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni has not installed much in terms of quarterback reads or run/pass options according to what sources tell Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Footballguys view: Sirianni has constantly reiterated that Hurts is going to have to compete for the starting job. That's fine coachspeak, but the reality is that Hurts is the best option the team has. Hurts is a great runner and can attack a defense with his legs. It would be wise for Sirianni's playbook to highlight that. In order for Hurts to succeed, the Eagles will have to utilize his running ability while he improves as a passer in the pros.

Eagles | Zach Ertz not at workouts    Mon May 17, 02:41 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz did not report for the start of offseason workouts Monday, May 17, and is expected to stay away until his situation is resolved, according to a source.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Ertz might be traded if the Eagles can find a partner willing to pay their requested price (rumored to be a third-round pick). He's a sound veteran but that $12.7 million cap hit is going to be tough to move. Stay tuned.

Eagles | Philly claims Kerryon Johnson    Fri May 7, 04:30 PM

Former Detroit Lions RB Kerryon Johnson was claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia Eagles Friday, May 7.

Footballguys view: The Eagles have a jam-packed running back room with the addition of Johnson. Miles Sanders is still the top back and behind him there will be a competition to establish a pecking order with guys like Boston Scott, Jordan Howard and Johnson. The Eagles also added Kenneth Gainwell (Memphis) in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL draft.

Eagles | Stage clear for Jalen Hurts    Fri May 7, 01:45 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts enters his second season as the team's No. 1 quarterback, and general manager Howie Roseman is eager to see what he does with the opportunity. 'Certainly you're judging him off of four NFL starts, in a tough situation with all the injuries that we had,' Roseman said during a recent interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio. 'We want to see him grab the job and kind of run with it, and see what you do over a period of time.'

Footballguys view: The Eagles are turning over the reins of the offense to Hurts. He's flashed ability as a starter but needs to further develop as a passer. The weapons around him have been improved and we'll see if he takes that next step. Hurts has QB1 potential for Fantasy GMs because of his rushing ability and potential to take that next step as a quarterback. His current ADP is QB11 (7.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Eagles | Trevon Grimes lands in Philly    Sun May 2, 09:11 PM

Undrafted free-agent WR Trevon Grimes (Florida) agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday, May 2.

Footballguys view: Grimes started his college career at Ohio State but left after his first season and went to Florida. His numbers got better each season with the Gators and Grimes has the chip on his shoulder to prove doubters wrong. Grimes is a big target and has a nice size/speed combination. He's not a burner but can win at the catch point and has more subtlety as a route runner than some think. In crazy deep dynasty formats we'll keep an eye on him.

Eagles | Jamie Newman signing with Philly    Sat May 1, 07:09 PM

Undrafted free-agent QB Jamie Newman (Wake Forest) agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a source Saturday, May 1.

Footballguys view: Newman was an interesting player at Wake Forest and was supposed to play at Georgia in 2020 before opting out of the season. He's got an athletic profile and can throw with good touch when his mechanics are clean. He's a project, but one worth keeping an eye on in super deep dynasty formats.

Eagles | DeVonta Smith lands in Philly    Thu Apr 29, 09:35 PM

Alabama WR DeVonta Smith was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 10th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Smith's game is all about speed, speed and more speed. He reminds many in the scouting community of DeSean Jackson...so landing with the Eagles is perfect. They'll know what to do with him and he can stretch the field to take the top off the defense.

Eagles | Zach Ertz likely to get moved soon    Tue Apr 27, 02:44 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz reportedly has 'six or seven teams in the running' for his services - including the Indianapolis Colts - and there is a belief he will be traded during draft weekend, according to Pro Football Network's Tony Pauline.

Footballguys view: The Eagles have had interest in Ertz and deals get done at deadlines. It's put-up-or-shut-up time during the draft, so we might actually see a deal come to fruition over the next few days.

Eagles | Kwity Paye destined for Philly?    Tue Apr 27, 02:30 PM

Michigan DE/LB Kwity Paye is viewed as a younger version of Brandon Graham and a player the Philadelphia Eagles could be interested in drafting at No. 12 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Eagles | Jalen Hurts to compete    Wed Apr 21, 12:30 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts was not named the starter by head coach Nick Sirianni, who said he isn't naming any starters and wants competition at all positions.

Footballguys view: When Carson Wentz was traded to the Colts, the idea was that Hurts would get the chance to be 'the guy' in 2021. He'll still get that chance but is going to have to compete for the top job. Unless the Eagles add a top-tier quarterback in the draft, Hurts should be able to win the starting gig. With his rushing ability, Hurts has QB1 upside for Fantasy GMs this season.

Eagles | Philly looking to move back up?    Sat Apr 17, 12:24 PM

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is 'exploring' a trade that will allow the team to get back into the top 10 of the 2021 NFL Draft, according to a report from The Athletic.

Footballguys view: Roseman is addicted to trading, so more moves from the Eagles would make sense. They moved back from no.6 overall with the Dolphins and picked up another first-round pick in 2022. Getting back into the top-10 pick would mean they're targeting a quarterback, although unlikely if they really believe in Jalen Hurts, or a top-tier wide receiver.

Eagles | Jordan Howard terms    Fri Apr 16, 09:51 AM

Updating previous reports, Philadelphia Eagles RB Jordan Howard's one-year deal has a $990,000 base salary and no guaranteed money. Howard's deal is a veteran salary benefit deal that counts $850,000 against the salary cap.

Footballguys view: Howard is with the Eagles to provide veteran depth and pick up some short-yardage and goal-line situations. His role will be very limited and there's not much fantasy value there.

Eagles | Philly eyeing Deshaun Watson    Fri Apr 9, 12:45 PM

If Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson can appropriately settle his current lawsuit and legal problems, the Philadelphia Eagles would be interested in pursuing a trade, according to a a league source Friday, April 9.

Footballguys view: Many teams are going to be interested in Watson if his legal issues are cleared up. The Eagles will have to get in line with a team like the Broncos if that's the case. If they can't get Watson, the Eagles are ready to give second-year quarterback Jalen Hurts the opportunity to prove he can be a franchise guy.

Eagles | Jordan Howard returning to Philly    Wed Apr 7, 05:20 PM

Free-agent RB Jordan Howard (Eagles) is re-signing with the Philadelphia Eagles on a one-year contract, according to a source Wednesday, April 7. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Footballguys view: Howard is a big-bodied power back with a clearly-defined role. The staff is new with the Eagles, but it's not like Howard is going to be used any differently. If he makes the 53-man roster, Howard will get short-yardage work with some goal-line carries mixed in.

Eagles | Philly in contact with Terrace Marshall    Sun Apr 4, 04:01 PM

Louisiana State WR Terrace Marshall has talked with the Philadelphia Eagles during the pre-draft process.

Footballguys view: The Eagles are still looking for wide receiver help. They've passed on D.K. Metcalf and Justin Jefferson over the last couple of drafts and the guys they picked (J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, Jalen Reagor) have not yet played up to their potential. Reagor has incredible ability if he stays healthy. Marshall is big and fast and has a nose for the end zone. He should be a late first-round pick.

Eagles | Kadarius Toney talks with Philly    Fri Apr 2, 07:41 PM

Florida WR Kadarius Toney said he recently met with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Footballguys view: Toney is a player some see as a first-round talent in the 2021 NFL draft. He was one of the best playmakers in college football last season and can hurt a defense as a receiver or runner. We see him as more of a quality no.2 receiver at the pro level.

Eagles | Boston Scott signs tender    Thu Apr 1, 03:35 PM

Philadelphia Eagles exclusive rights free-agent Boston Scott signed his one-year tender offer Thursday, April 1. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Eagles | Joe Flacco contract update    Tue Mar 23, 06:30 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent QB Joe Flacco (Jets) signed a one-year, $3.5 million guaranteed contract with the Philadelphia Eagles Tuesday, March 23, according to a source. He can reportedly make up to $4 million with incentives.

Footballguys view: Flacco is your typical veteran backup at this point in his career. It's an odd choice given that super-athletic Jalen Hurts is the starter. Flacco has never been mistaken for a scrambler.

Eagles | Joe Flacco signs with Philly    Tue Mar 23, 06:16 PM

Free-agent QB Joe Flacco (Jets) signed an undisclosed contract with the Philadelphia Eagles Tuesday, March 23, according to his agent.

Footballguys view: It's an interesting signing to say the least. Jalen Hurts is the starter and his game is about the opposite of what Flacco's game is. Flacco won't threaten for the starting job but in the event Hurts goes down the offense will look much different with the seasoned veteran running the show.

Free-agent QB Joe Flacco (Jets) is scheduled to meet with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a source.

Free-agent RB Adrian Killins (Eagles) signed a two-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles Wednesday, March 17. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Think Tarik Cohen when you think of Killins. He's a smaller but compact back with quickness and speed to his game. We'll monitor him but only in crazy deep dynasty formats.

Eagles | Zach Ertz allowed to seek trade    Tue Mar 16, 05:41 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz has received permission to seek a trade to another team, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Reports have indicated that the Eagles have been receiving phone calls about Ertz. That means we should see him dealt in the near future. With the Patriots snaring the top tight ends available in free agency (Jonnu Smith, Hunter Henry) there should be a market for Ertz.

Eagles | Philly not feeling pressure to move Zach Ertz    Tue Mar 16, 03:14 PM

Updating previous reports, Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz may be growing impatient with the team dragging their feet in regards to trading him, but the Eagles are reportedly 'taking their time' and waiting for better draft pick compensation, according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.

Footballguys view: There has been plenty of buzz about the phone ringing with teams interested in trading for Ertz. Per Garafolo, Ertz isn't looking for a new contract as part of a deal and willing to play out the final year of his deal.

Eagles | Zach Ertz had surgery    Mon Mar 8, 01:16 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz (ankle) underwent ankle surgery after the season.

Footballguys view: The surgery makes sense because Ertz went to back-to-back-to-back Pro Bowls and then had a bad 2020 season. Teams have been calling the Eagles to see if they can trade for the veteran starter.

Eagles | Jalen Hurts the plan for '21    Mon Mar 8, 09:59 AM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts has been prioritized this offseason by owner Jeffrey Lurie. The team isn't unanimous on Hurts as the starter, but Lurie wants the team to build around him for next season instead of creating competition.

Footballguys view: Hurts is the guy they're going to roll with in 2021. If he plays well this season, then the Eagles will continue to build around him. Hurts was successful as a runner but he's a work in progress as a passer at the pro level. We'll see how Philadelphia structures things to get the most out of their second-year quarterback.

Eagles | Kyle Pitts a fit in Philly?    Sat Mar 6, 09:22 PM

Florida TE Kyle Pitts could be targeted by the Philadelphia Eagles with the No. 6 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, according to Tim McManus of ESPN.com. The Eagles used two-tight end sets a league-high 35 percent of the time last season, and McManus believes that Pitts would fill the void left by the expected departure of TE Zach Ertz.

Footballguys view: Pitts is a fit anywhere in the league. He is one of the most physically gifted tight ends to come into the draft in quite some time. Think Darren Waller when you think of Pitts, and it may not take that long for him to ramp up his game at the pro level.
