Chiefs | Chris Jones practices, still questionable    Fri Jan 17, 02:41 PM

Kansas City Chiefs DT Chris Jones (calf) practiced for the first time this week on a limited basis Friday, Jan. 17, but he remains a question mark for Sunday's AFC Championship Game. Head coach Andy Reid said the Chiefs will work out Jones on Saturday and then make a decision about his status for the game.

Footballguys view: Jones leaving the AFC title game in the fourth quarter last year was a possible difference between winning and losing last year so obviously the Chiefs will hope to have him back, but if he is back he might be on a snap count and have limited effectiveness. The team could also hold him out to hope to have him at closer to full strength if they make it to the Super Bowl.

Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent DT Chris D. Jones likely will receive the franchise tag this offseason if the two sides are not able to reach a long-term agreement before the start of free agency, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Adam Teicher.

Footballguys view: We can't imagine Jones getting away from the Chiefs in 2020. They'll work diligently to get a deal done, and using the franchise tag gives them more time to do just that.   Chiefs | Sammy Watkins to be a cap casualty?    Mon Jan 13, 10:23 PM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins is scheduled to carry a league-high charge of $21 million against the 2020 salary cap. Releasing him will save $14 million against the cap.

Footballguys view: Watkins has a ton of talent but his game has been set back by injuries and inconsistencies through his pro career. The Chiefs are making a Super Bowl run this year but could send Watkins packing this offseason to clear up a ton of cap space for other issues that could be filled in free agency.

Chiefs | Chris Jones uncertain for AFC Championship    Mon Jan 13, 01:11 PM

Kansas City Chiefs DL Chris D. Jones (calf) is 'day-to-day,' according to head coach Andy Reid, who added during his press conference Monday, Jan. 13, that he's not sure if Jones can play against the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Championship. Reid also stated Jones was not close to playing in the AFC Divisional Round game versus the Houston Texans.

Footballguys view: Jones had two sacks against the Titans in the loss earlier this year and he's clearly one of the best players on the Chiefs defense. His ankle injury in the fourth quarter last year was a key development in the loss to the Patriots in the AFC Championship Game.

Chiefs | Kansas City advances to AFC Championship Game    Sun Jan 12, 06:36 PM

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes completed 23-of-35 passes for 321 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's AFC Divisional Round win over the Houston Texans. He also led the team with 53 rushing yards on seven attempts. RB Damien Williams ran 12 times for 47 yards with two touchdowns, while adding two grabs for 21 yards and a third score. TE Travis Kelce had a monster game with 10 grabs, 134 yards and three touchdowns. WR Sammy Watkins had two grabs for 76 yards and he added 14 rushing yards. WR Tyreek Hill ran three times for 41 yards with a four-yard run and one lost fumble. WR Mecole Hardman was good for two receptions and 19 yards, while WR Demarcus Robinson ended his day with one catch for four yards on four targets.

Footballguys view: Mahomes was a cool customer and the Chiefs got even more special teams and defense breaks than the Texans by the time the game was over. The Chiefs offense is clicking at the right time although the Titans beat them earlier this year. Kelce had a record-breaking performance as the first player to catch three touchdowns in a quarter in the postseason.
