49ers | Deebo Samuel designated to return    Wed Sep 30, 03:18 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel (foot) has been designated to return from the Reserve/Injured list and has been cleared to practice.

Footballguys view: This was the plan when the team put Samuel on IR weeks ago. The team will now work to get Samuel back to the field, ramping him up over the next week or so. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Samuel is "likely" to return in Week 5 against the Dolphins.

49ers | Deebo Samuel could be back in Week 4    Fri Sep 25, 02:12 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel (foot) has reportedly looked good enough in his rehab that head coach Kyle Shanahan expects him to practice next week, although it 'remains to be seen' if he'll be able to play in Week 4 against the left Philadelphia Eagles, according to NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco.'I'm optimistic he'll be back next week. He had a real good week, last week hitting the rehab hard with all those guys. Just being able to watch him work out on the side, he looks real good running routes and he's been able to do it without pain,' Shanahan said.

Footballguys view: Check your waiver wire for Samuel, who will become the team's #1 receiver as soon as he returns. This is a good sign that his setback was minor as setbacks go.

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel (foot) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Sept. 12.

Footballguys view: This means Samuel will be out at least the first three weeks of the regular season. The team is going to be without him in Week 1 and rookie first-round pick Brandon Aiyuk is questionable. They've got one of the most banged up WR corps in the NFL.

  49ers | San Francisco's injury report for Week 1    Fri Sep 11, 05:24 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel (foot) and CB Jason Verrett (hamstring) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals. WR Brandon Aiyuk (hamstring) and OL Ben Garland (ankle) were limited in practice Friday, Sept. 11, and are listed as questionable. RB Tevin Coleman (non-injury) was not given a practice designation Friday but is expected to play.

Footballguys view: It's good news that Aiyuk has a chance to play, but he'll face Patrick Peterson at least some of the time if he does, so it's just best to leave him on the bench and be happy if he goes off outside of your lineup.

49ers | Deebo Samuel could play Week 1    Mon Sep 7, 04:55 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel (foot) 'has a shot' to take the field in Week 1 versus the Arizona Cardinals, according to manager John Lynch. The current plan is for the team to meet with doctors in training staff on Tuesday, Sept. 8, to determine the proper course of action for Samuel'Deebo has done a fantastic job (in his rehab.) ... I'm a huge believer that when you get injured and you're already in great shape, you tend to heal quicker. Deebo has continued that tremendous work ethic and has remained very positive and upbeat and resolute in his want to be back on the field right away. That goes a long way. We're hopeful but I don't have an answer, because we don't know it yet,' Lynch said.

Footballguys view: Potentially great news for the 49ers here. Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk are the top two receivers for the 49ers and they're both banged up. If Samuel can play, that's a big boost for the passing attack. Monitor his status during the week of practice. He could be on a snap count if he is out there for the 49ers against the Cardinals.

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel (foot) is hopeful to return to practice next week, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan Wednesday, Sept. 2.

Footballguys view: Samuel may not be ready for the start of the regular season. He's unlikely to go to PUP list according to reports but he may have to miss a week or so at the start. We'll see what he looks like getting back to practice next week. There's a chance he misses no time in the regular season as well. Stay tuned.

49ers | Deebo Samuel return remains a mystery    Tue Aug 25, 08:39 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel (foot) is not expected to return to practice this week, but head coach Kyle Shanahan remains hopeful he will be able to play in the season opener.'We're still hoping he can get back in for Week 1 (but) no, I don't expect him back (to practice) this week,' Shanahan said. 'We're still hoping on Week 1, but not sure,' Shanahan told the team's website Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Footballguys view: Nobody really knows for sure when Samuel will return to the field. The general feeling about this is that he would miss some time at the start of the regular season. Not enough for him to be put on the PUP list (six weeks) and perhaps less than a month. There is a chance Samuel is ready Week 1, but there is a perhaps better chance that he misses a game or two.

49ers | Coach hopes Deebo Samuel will play Week 1    Sat Aug 15, 08:14 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel (foot) hopefully will be ready for the start of the regular season, but head coach Kyle Shanahan said he is not counting on Samuel to be available.

Footballguys view: The 49ers lost a season from Trent Taylor because his foot issue never got healed up last year. They'll err on the side of caution with Samuel. It's possible we won't see him until October, so price that into his your outlook when considering when to take him.

49ers | Deebo Samuel goes on NFI list    Tue Jul 28, 05:06 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel (foot) was placed on the Non-Football Injury list Tuesday, July 28.

Footballguys view: On Tuesday, 49ers GM John Lynch said it was "fair to say" Samuel "might" miss time in the regular season. Reports have speculated that Samuel could be out the first 3-4 weeks of 2020. This gives rookie first-round pick Brandon Aiyuk plenty of opportunity to shine as the best healthy WR on the roster.

49ers | Deebo Samuel not on a timeline    Tue Jul 28, 11:53 AM

Updating previous reports, San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel (foot) is not on a timeline in his recovery from a fractured bone in his foot, according to general manager John Lynch. 'Not going to put an exact timeline on it, but it's fair to say he may miss some games at the start of the year.'

Footballguys view: Samuel could be bound for the PUP list which would force him out the first six weeks of the regular season. Some analysts don't believe that will happen, but Samuel might be in line to miss a few weeks to one month of action when the regular season opens. Samuel's absence will create opportunity for 2020 first-round pick Brandon Aiyuk. In current drafts, Samuel is going off the board at WR35 (8.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

49ers | Deebo Samuel expects quick recovery    Thu Jun 18, 04:45 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel (foot) said he expects to return to the field in 10 weeks.

Footballguys view: Samuel may expect that but we are a long way from that point...and he has yet to have surgery. It's looking like the second-year wideout could begin the 2020 regular season on the PUP list, forcing him to miss at least the first six weeks when the team starts playing.

49ers | Deebo Samuel has a broken foot    Thu Jun 18, 03:05 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel (foot) suffered a Jones fracture in his foot while working out Thursday, June 18. He will have surgery today, performed by Dr. Robert Anderson, and Samuel should be able to return to full strength in three to four months.

Footballguys view: Horrible news for the 49ers and the young WR here. Samuel has a Jones fracture and is likely to begin the regular season on the PUP list. Without complications he might be able to return after the mandatory six-week absence. That puts him in play around the middle of the regular season for a return. Now, 2020 first-round pick Brandon Aiyuk takes on an even larger role in that offense. We'll see if someone like Kendrick Bourne or Jalen Hurd can elevate their game while Samuel is out.

49ers | Deebo Samuel caused missed tackles    Mon Jun 8, 05:07 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel forced 18 missed tackles during the 2019 season, which was tied for second in the NFL.

Footballguys view: Samuel's game is all about run-after-the-catch ability. He's a bully with the ball, hence the nickname 'Deebo.' Samuel regularly tells defenders 'that's my bike punk!' with the rock in his hand. He's just getting started and looks to have a bright NFL future ahead of him.

49ers | Deebo Samuel made it happen after the catch    Mon Jun 1, 10:40 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel was one of only two receivers (Mecole Hardman) with at least 40 targets in 2019 whose yardage after catch average (8.5) was higher than his average depth of target (7.4).

Footballguys view: That's Samuel's game...always has been, and always will be. He's big, strong and fast which makes him tough for defenders at any level to deal with. Samuel will be one of the best receivers after the catch once again in 2020.

49ers | Deebo Samuel has room to grow    Sat Apr 4, 09:21 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel ranked second among rookies with 961 yards from scrimmage in 2019 despite tying for second in the NFL with seven drops, and Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com believes Samuel's role 'will only continue to expand' in his second season.

Footballguys view: Samuel just showed us the tip of the iceberg last year as a rookie. His strength and run-after-the-catch ability make him one of the most fun receivers to watch. We'll continue to see him grow and develop as a talent in 2020.

49ers | San Francisco denied title    Sun Feb 2, 10:08 PM

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo completed 20 of his 31 passes for 219 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions in a 31-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV Sunday, Feb. 2. RB Raheem Mostert rushed 12 times for 58 yards and a touchdown and caught one pass for two yards, and RB Tevin Coleman rushed five times for 28 yards and caught one pass for three yards. WR Deebo Samuel caught five passes for 39 yards and rushed three times for 53 yards, WR Emmanuel Sanders caught three of his five targets for 38 yards, and TE George Kittle hauled in four passes for 36 yards. FB Kyle Juszczyk caught three passes for 39 yards and a touchdown. SS Jimmie Ward notched a game-high 11 tackles, DE Nick Bosa recorded a sack, and DL DeForest Buckner logged 1.5 sacks.

Footballguys view: The offense had a terrific first three quarters and was rarely held off of the board by the Chiefs until the fourth quarter, when Garoppolo misfired repeatedly and the team squandered a 10-point lead. Mostert was again one of the best parts of the offense, and Samuel was explosive and tough to break down on his short touches. Garoppolo will regret not looking for Kittle more, especially in the fourth quarter. The 49ers should be considered the favorite in the NFC next season despite finishing on a down note.

49ers | Deebo Samuel off to strong start    Thu Jan 30, 02:28 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel has had more receptions (62) in his rookie season (including playoffs) than former 49ers WRs Jerry Rice (53) and Terrell Owens (36) did in their first pro seasons and has as many 100-yard games (3) as Rice and Owens had as rookies combined.

Footballguys view: Samuel has had a great rookie season for the 49ers. His strength and run-after-the-catch ability make him a factor in the passing game. Samuel should continue to develop as a pro and Fantasy GMs should consider him a WR3 with upside in 2020. He finished as the No.26 fantasy receiver in standard-scoring leagues as a rookie.

49ers | San Francisco on to NFC Championship game    Sat Jan 11, 07:36 PM

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo went 11-for-19 for 131 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Minnesota Vikings in the Divisional Round playoff game. RB Tevin Coleman rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. RB Raheem Mostert rushed for 58 yards on 12 carries, while RB Matt Breida rushed for 17 yards on eight carries. WR Emmanuel Sanders caught two passes for 33 yards on two targets, while TE George Kittle caught three passes for 16 yards on five targets.

Footballguys view: The 49ers are going to be at home for the NFC Championship Game as the No.1 seed in the conference.
