Buccaneers | Josh Rosen joins PS    Sun Sep 6, 01:51 PM

Free-agent QB Josh Rosen (Dolphins) was signed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad Sunday, Sept. 6, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Rosen was a top-10 pick in the 2018 NFL draft and he's got natural skill as a passer. However, he's now failed to impress with two teams and is on his third team in three seasons. Rosen was working hard with the Dolphins according to reports, but the writing was on the wall when the team selected potential franchise quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft. We'll see if learning from Tom Brady can help Rosen jump-start his career.

Dolphins | Josh Rosen let go    Fri Sep 4, 08:21 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Josh Rosen was released Friday, Sept. 4, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Not really a surprise here. Rosen was a top-10 pick in the 2018 NFL draft and has been with two teams so far in his pro career. The buzz is that he was working hard behind the scenes and is not a distraction in the building. However, he's not good enough to stick so far. With his natural ability as a passer there will be some team that takes a chance on the former first-round pick.

Dolphins | Tua Tagovailoa not a lock to be the backup?    Mon Aug 24, 12:28 AM

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa is in a competition for the No. 2 quarterback job behind Ryan Fitzpatrick with Josh Rosen, and the 'chances are greater' that Rosen will begin the season in that role unless Tagovailoa 'suddenly starts doing some magical things he hasn't shown yet,' in the opinion of the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero.

Footballguys view: Tagovailoa is supposed to be the franchise quarterback that the Dolphins have been searching for since the days of Dan Marino. Rosen is a former first-round pick who is on his second team in only a couple of years. Behind the scenes with the Dolphins last year, Rosen was known as a hard worker but when he stepped onto the field to start in 2019 it was met with disastrous results. Tagovailoa should have no problem beating out Rosen but it sounds like that's not a done deal just yet.

Dolphins | Josh Rosen drawing trade interest?    Wed May 20, 09:44 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Josh Rosen has been the focus of a few trade calls this offseason, according to NFL Network's Michael Giardi, who also added the Dolphins are reportedly 'in no hurry to trade him.'

Footballguys view: Rosen is the odd man out in the Dolphins quarterback room. A first-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft, Rosen failed to impress with the team that drafted him (Arizona) and was so bad last year in Miami that he got benched for Ryan Fitzpatrick. Word behind the scene is that Rosen is working hard and is not a distraction but his game is just not translating to the pro level. Some team may want to take on chance on him with a late-round draft pick but he's running out of time to turn things around...even as a backup-caliber quarterback.

Dolphins | Josh Rosen still in Miami's plans?    Thu Jan 23, 09:24 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Josh Rosen hasn't been written off, according to general manager Chris Grier, and Grier said he saw improvement in Rosen during practice throughout the year.

Footballguys view: Grier should be saying this whether they believe in Rosen or not. If they don't, there still could be a market for a third day pick in a trade of Rosen to another team that wants to develop him, so there's nothing to gain by saying the team has given up on Rosen.

Dolphins | Josh Rosen back to bench    Wed Oct 16, 01:02 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Josh Rosen was benched for Week 7 against the Buffalo Bills.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins are vacillating between quarterbacks this year. It wasn't that long ago when Rosen was declared the starter for the rest of the season. That lasted about a week. We'll see if he can get back on the field at some point later in 2019.

Dolphins | Josh Rosen entrenched as starter    Wed Oct 9, 12:01 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Josh Rosen will remain the starter the rest of the season, according to head coach Brian Flores.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins are looking at potentially landing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft, so they have to see what they have in Rosen. If he plays well over the rest of the season, perhaps Miami would be convinced to keep him as their starter and go in a different direction in the draft. If not, expect the Dolphins to spend their 2020 first-round pick on a quarterback.

Dolphins | Miami not ready to name starting QB    Sun Aug 25, 03:21 PM

Miami Dolphins QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh Rosen have been competing for the starting job during the preseason, and head coach Brian Flores said he is still not ready to name a starter at the position. Flores indicated both quarterbacks may play in the final preseason game.

Footballguys view: This reflects on Rosen's play since a first week that saw Fitzpatrick emerge as the clear starter as much as it does Fitzpatrick's. Fitzpatrick might be better for the downfield receivers and Rosen the short-range receivers, but both will struggle behind one of the league's worst offensive lines.

Dolphins | Josh Rosen running with ones    Wed Aug 14, 01:06 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Josh Rosen is working with the first-team offense Wednesday, Aug. 14, and is receiving 'true starter burn' this week in practice, according to beat writer Cameron Wolfe.

Footballguys view: We'll see this back-and-forth until the Dolphins decide on who the starting quarterback should be. Rosen is competing with veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick for that top spot. All reports indicate that Fitzpatrick is in the lead, but we'll see if Rosen can make up some ground getting a 'true starter burn'...whatever that is.

Dolphins | Long look for Josh Rosen    Fri Aug 9, 01:06 AM

Miami Dolphins QB Josh Rosen completed 13 of his 20 passes for 191 yards and an interception and rushed once for six yards in a 34-27 preseason win over the Atlanta Falcons Thursday, Aug. 8.

Footballguys view: Rosen mostly made hay throwing it up under pressure and letting UDFA Preston Williams make plays. He's not ahead of Ryan Fitzpatrick yet to start Week 1, but he's still alive.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick working with ones    Tue Aug 6, 09:28 AM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will likely play with the first-team offense Thursday, Aug. 8, in the first preseason game, according to head coach Brian Flores. QB Josh Rosen is slated for the second-team, but Flores said that could change.

Footballguys view: This quarterback battle is wide open and trending towards Rosen, but preseason games will decide it. Just as important as the identity of the winner is noting which receiver have the best chemistry with the winner.

Dolphins | Josh Rosen pushing to start?    Sun Aug 4, 09:33 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Josh Rosen made some 'remarkable throws' during practice Saturday, Aug. 3, according to Adam H. Beasley of The Miami Herald, and Beasley believes Rosen 'just might be' the starting quarterback when practice resumes Monday, Aug. 5.

Footballguys view: Rosen will probably have to outplay Ryan Fitzpatrick decisively to win the job, but that's exactly what has been happening in recent practices. Fitzpatrick is better for the fantasy prospects in Miami, but Rosen is better for the Dolphins long term plans.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick has early lead in QB derby?    Fri May 24, 03:22 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has been 'the best of the quarterbacks' in organized team activities so far, according to an unidentified player who spoke to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald recently. However, Josh Rosen has also reportedly 'played well.'

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick is the seasoned veteran with the dad bod...of course he should be the early leader. We also know the wily veteran is wildly inconsistent, so Rosen is going to start at some point this season even if Fitzpatrick wins the starting job in training camp.

Dolphins | Josh Rosen has fan in former coach    Thu May 9, 12:14 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Josh Rosen has a believer in Los Angeles assistant offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch, his offensive coordinator and interim head coach at UCLA. 'Knowing Josh, from working with him on a daily basis, I believe he will react and respond as he does in everything,' Fisch said in an interview published Thursday, May 9. 'He's very self-aware. He recognizes his skill set. He recognizes his ability in comparison to others. And I think in his mind he'll just go out there and show the Miami Dolphins they made the right decision. And do everything he can to perform at the highest level, recognizing he has all the skills in the world. And I don't think he'll be set back. I don't think he'll feel that he needs to prove someone wrong as much as he would like to prove someone right.'

Footballguys view: Rosen has a lot to prove in 2019. First, he's got to beat out Ryan Fitzpatrick for the starting job. Second, he's got to show that last year was a fluke and he can flash as a starter. Finally, Rosen has to make quicker decisions with the football and not seem as frustrated when things aren't going his way. Rosen gets a second chance with the Dolphins, but they could easily move on from him and target another first-round quarterback in the 2020 NFL draft if things don't start trending up for the young passer.

Dolphins | Josh Rosen thinks he can be franchise QB    Mon Apr 29, 08:50 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Josh Rosen said he believes he can be a franchise quarterback for the Dolphins.

Footballguys view: It would be news if he felt any differently. Rosen looked lost for the Cardinals last year, but one could easily blame that on coaching, lack of talent around him or an offensive line that let him get beat up quite a bit. Struggles as a rookie quarterback in the NFL should be expected, and Rosen wasn't a good fit for the 'Air Raid' system that new Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury is bringing to Arizona. Rosen gets a fresh start with the Dolphins and has a chance to showcase his talent as the starter if he can beat out Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Arizona Cardinals QB Josh Rosen was traded to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for the 62nd overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Dolphins also acquired a 2020 fifth-round draft choice in the trade.

Footballguys view: Rosen should start sooner than later. This is a tremendous deal for Miami with the Cardinals eating Rosen's signing bonus. He'll make less than most backup quarterbacks. Ryan Fitzpatrick is back to being a bridge starter. He might not even start Week 1.

Cardinals | Josh Rosen says he'll respect decision    Thu Apr 18, 01:13 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Josh Rosen has been the subject of trade rumors with the team reportedly eyeing Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray with the No. 1-overall draft pick, broke his media silence recently during an interview with Sports Illustrated TV. 'I think when people talk about, like, you can't listen to criticism or don't ever read articles, you have to be aware of what's going on to a certain extent,' Rosen said in a short video clip of the segment posted on Twitter . 'So I definitely understand the situation. I mean it's annoying, but it is what it is. Football is a business, and I definitely respect the higher-ups and their decisions.'

Footballguys view: Rosen doesn't have a choice. The Cardinals may move him on draft day, especially since most believe they will take QB Kyler Murray with the no.1 overall pick. Rosen could find himself in a situation with a team (like the Chargers?) where he has to be a backup and wait for his turn to start again. That's not necessarily a bad thing for the young passer.

Chargers | Josh Rosen could wind up with L.A.    Fri Apr 12, 01:27 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Josh Rosen could wind up being traded to the Los Angeles Chargers, former Chargers standout Shawne Merriman told FOX Sports Radio on Thursday, April 11. 'The Chargers could be seriously interested, and from what I'm hearing it's a big possibility that he could end up there,' Merriman said.

Footballguys view: These rumblings have been out there for some time. In fact, there are rumors about the Chargers already offering a second-round pick for Rosen. We'll see if the Cardinals get more in exchange for the young passer or if they choose to go ahead and ship him off for less than a first-round pick.

Arizona Cardinals QB Josh Rosen is rumored to be on the trade block, and there's a 'solid chance' he winds up getting traded to the Washington Redskins, according to one Washington beat reporter.

Footballguys view: We could see Washington make a move for Rosen. They need to find a long-term solution at quarterback since Case Keenum is not that answer. Head coach Jay Gruden is on the hotseat and perhaps adding a first-round talent like Rosen could buy him more time.

Cardinals | Teams have made offers for Josh Rosen    Fri Apr 5, 12:27 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Josh Rosen has been the target of at least two trade offers, but the Cardinals are trying to 'save face' and get as a close to a first-round draft pick in return as possible, according to one AFC executive.

Footballguys view: The Chargers have been rumored to be interested in Rosen and some say they've offered a second-round pick. We should see the Cardinals take QB Kyler Murray with the no.1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft. That means Rosen would have to be dealt.
