Jaguars | Gardner Minshew elite going deep    Sat May 30, 02:34 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew earned a 94.7 Pro Football Focus grade on throws of at least 20 yards downfield in 2019, ranking him third among quarterbacks.

Footballguys view: Minshew needs to take steps forward in 2020. He was good deep but he needs to improve on short-to-intermediate routes. We'll see how he meshes with his new weapons in 2020.

Jaguars | Gardner Minshew familiar with Laviska Shenault Jr.    Thu May 28, 08:25 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew is familiar with the talents of rookie WR Laviska Shenault Jr. and what he can do for an offense from their time playing against each other in college. 'Every time he touched the ball you just got nervous because you know he could break it,' Minshew said.

Footballguys view: These guys both played in the Pac-12, Minshew for Washington State and Shenault for Colorado. Shenault is a rare athlete who has strength, speed, body control and the versatility to line up anywhere in the formation...even in the backfield as a running back or Wildcat quarterback. The rookie from CU just needs to stay healthy in order to be productive. We love him in dynasty leagues but in re-draft leagues he's more of an end-of-the-bench player at this time.

Jaguars | Offense to be tailored to Gardner Minshew    Tue May 26, 07:33 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew will have the offense tailored to him in 2020, according to offensive coordinator Jay Gruden. 'It's my job to make it mesh, to take on the personality of our quarterback - and for him to understand what we're trying to get accomplished on play-to-play, game-to-game, week-to-week basis is going to be critical,' Gruden said. ... 'Now, it's just a matter of him getting some general knowledge of our offense and me figuring out what he likes, what he doesn't like - what makes him tick - and go from there.'

Footballguys view: The Jaguars have to do what they can to get the best out of Minshew. They brought in Mike Glennon, but he's not real threat to the starting position. The dirty secret in the NFL is that it's all about fit. Gruden is a seasoned coach who knows that and will work to get the best out of his young quarterback.

Jaguars | More pocket for Gardner Minshew?    Fri May 15, 01:01 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew will be working on making more plays from the pocket, according to head coach Doug Marrone. The priorities will be developing rhythm and reads and deciphering coverage. Marrone added they don't want to discourage Minshew from using his creativity, but they want him to make good decisions.

Footballguys view: Keeping Minshew in the pocket means they better have options for him right away as a passer. He was under a lot of pressure last year and thus would scramble around looking to make a play with his arm. Minshew is their guy as they've yet added a guy like Cam Newton to take the starting job and in fact signed perennial backup Mike Glennon to be the guy behind the second-year quarterback. We'll see if the added weapons and emphasis on staying in the pocket helps Minshew play more consistently in 2020.

Jaguars | Confidence in Gardner Minshew?    Fri May 1, 12:39 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew on Friday, May 1, received a semi vote of confidence from head coach Doug Marrone, who also left the door open to the team adding a quarterback as well. 'Ya, he's our QB, there's no doubt about it,' Marrone said in an interview on Good Morning Football. '... But one of the things that we're doing, we're still looking to to make sure were upgraded at each position. There are some veterans out there that we might look at to bring in.'

Footballguys view: The team gave Minshew a vote of confidence when they traded Nick Foles away to the Bears earlier this year. We'll see if they nab Andy Dalton now that he's on the open market, but it's looking like Minshew will be their starter to open the regular season.

Jaguars | Jacksonville to add QB depth    Sun Apr 19, 09:37 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew will be joined on the roster by at least one more quarterback in the coming, according to general manager David Caldwell. 'We'll get through the draft and see what comes out of the draft,' Caldwell said. 'If one presents itself, we'll pull the trigger. If not, we'll look to see what's on the street.'

Footballguys view: We could see the team add a quarterback through the draft, although many are speculating they could still add a guy like Cam Newton or Jameis Winston in free agency. Minshew is the starter for now, but he should have competition for the job in training camp.

Jaguars | Gardner Minshew to have a real shot    Mon Apr 13, 10:22 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew is believed to be given a real shot at the position, and the team isn't expected to take a quarterback at No. 9 in the NFL draft, according to a friend of general manager David Caldwell.

Jaguars | Improvisation part of Gardner Minshew's game    Mon Mar 30, 11:44 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew was credited with a league-high 49 scrambles - designed pass plays in which the quarterback opted to run - in 2019.

Footballguys view: Minshew can get rid of the ball quickly when a play goes as designed. When things fall apart, he does not hesitate to get on the move and tries to make something happen on the fly. With Nick Foles moved to the Bears, Minshew is the starter for now.

Jaguars | Gardner Minshew to start    Wed Mar 18, 01:36 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew is expected to be the starter in 2020 after QB Nick Foles was acquired by the Chicago Bears Wednesday, March 18, in exchange for a compensatory fourth-round pick.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars had to make a decision and they went with Minshew. He flashed last year as a rookie taking over for an injured Nick Foles. Now, he's the main man with no competition for the top spot. We'll see if the Jaguars are tempted to make a run at one of the top quarterbacks in this draft class with the No.9 overall pick.

Jaguars | Jacksonville in no rush to name QB    Tue Feb 25, 08:17 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QBs Nick Foles and Gardner Minshew have not been given a timeline in terms of knowing when one or the other will be named the starting quarterback.'When do you make that decision? There's not really a date. It's not really going to happen until we start playing, in the preseason, because for me, at that position, one of the things that's important is that the players can see who the best player is. You have an obligation to everyone in that locker room that you're putting the best player out there,' Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said.

Footballguys view: The team is going to have Foles and Minshew compete for the starting job in training camp. We'll have to watch this battle unfold as it happens in the summer. Fantasy GMs will be looking elsewhere for QB1 production in 2020.

Jaguars | Gardner Minshew not named starter for 2020    Sat Jan 4, 01:04 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew will not enter into the offseason program as the team's starting quarterback, according to head coach Doug Marrone, nor will the head coach name QB Nick Foles as the backup. The team appears headed for an open competition this offseason, in the opinion of The Florida Times-Union's John Reid.

Footballguys view: The old saying goes when you have two quarterbacks you really have none. The Jaguars will hold an open competition for the starting job (most likely) but they also need to be conscious about which player the locker room is warming up to. The team just seemed to respond better (at times) with Minshew as the starter.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew went 13-for-31 for 181 yards and one touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 16. He also rushed for 36 yards on seven carries.

Footballguys view: Minshewmania feels like it happened ages ago. This franchise is adrift right now with decisions to make about the organization from top to bottom in the offseason. Minshew will still inspire smiles when we reflect on his rookie season, but it ended in a tailspin.

Jaguars | Gardner Minshew back in the saddle    Mon Dec 2, 02:04 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew was named the starting quarterback by head coach Doug Marrone for Week 14 versus the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday, Dec. 2, taking over for Nick Foles.

Footballguys view: Foles couldn't get it done against the Buccaneers, so Marrone is going with the rookie. Perhaps that has ruffled some feathers with Tom Coughlin, so Marrone may be coaching his last few games with the Jaguars over the course of the next month.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew went 16-for-27 for 147 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 13 after replacing QB Nick Foles.

Footballguys view: We can't be sure if the Jaguars will play Minshew or Nick Foles next week, or who the head coach will be. It's better for the Jaguars fantasy options if Minshew plays.

Jaguars | Nick Foles benched    Sun Dec 1, 03:06 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Nick Foles was benched during the Week 13 game and has been replaced by QB Gardner Minshew.

Footballguys view: Foles was terrible early, giving up the ball three times to Tampa Bay. He hasn't looked good since he returned. The Jaguars committed a lot of guaranteed money to him but he's their second best quarterback. We'll see who starts against the Chargers next week, but you should hope for Minshew if you rely on any Jaguars in your lineup.

Jaguars | Gardner Minshew to the bench    Tue Nov 5, 01:49 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew will be benched in favor of QB Nick Foles after the Week 10 bye.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Minshew turned the ball over too much in the last game and was seeing a decline in his play. Foles has the huge contract and will now get to see what he can do as the team is trying to make a push for the postseason.

Jaguars | Jacksonville to make QB decision during bye    Sun Nov 3, 02:42 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Nick Foles (collarbone) is expected to return for the team's Week 11 game, and head coach Doug Marrone said he will take the bye week to decide whether Foles or QB Gardner Minshew will be the starting quarterback for that game.

Footballguys view: Minshew had been playing well enough for the Jaguars to string together a few wins going into this week, but Foles experience will probably win out.

Jaguars | Four turnovers for Gardner Minshew    Sun Nov 3, 01:33 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew went 27-for-47 for 309 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions against the Houston Texans in Week 9. He also lost two fumbles during the game and rushed for 34 yards.

Footballguys view: There's little question who will quarterback the Jaguars once Nick Foles is healthy, although there might not have been much of one before this game. Minshew had time to operate but failed to make plays against a secondary that has been in free fall lately. We might not see him again this year.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew completed 15-of-32 passes for 255 yards, one touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals. He also ran nine times for 48 yards.

Footballguys view: Minshew wasn't very efficient against the weakened but spirited Bengals defense, but he made plays when he had to. It's unclear whether he'll remain the starter when Nick Foles returns, although he will get another start against the Jets next week to try to get the Jaguars to .500.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew went 14-for-29 for 163 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception against the New Orleans Saints in Week 6.

Footballguys view: The Saints defense is for real and it doesn't have any obvious weakness. Minshew was under pressure and the secondary didn't give him anything that was too easy. He'll have a much better matchup and be back in streamer consideration against Cincinnati next week.

Footballguys view: Nick Foles should be out for 6-8 weeks with his collarbone injury. That means he could be an IR/Designated to Return player. In the meantime, Minshew should stay as the team's starter although we think they'll be looking for a reserve veteran quarterback. Minshew threw the ball all over the field in one year starting at Washington State last year and he looked comfortable against the Chiefs on Sunday.

Minshew is smart and can pick apart a defense on short-to-intermediate routes. We'll watch him in deep dynasty formats.
