Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott rushed 12 times for 54 yards in Week 4 against the Cleveland Browns while adding eight receptions for 71 yards on his eight targets.

Footballguys view: Tony Pollard got the one rushing score, but Elliott's involvement in the passing game made him an acceptable RB1 play this week in PPR leagues. He remains a solid RB1, but the come from behind nature of the Cowboys game scripts is limiting his value.

Cowboys | Defenders got to Ezekiel Elliott late in 2019    Tue Jul 14, 08:09 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott recorded 39 carries in which he ran at least five yards before getting contacted in 2019 - the most by any running back and second in the league overall - according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys offensive line lost Travis Frederick to retirement but the addition of Ceedee Lamb should help keep defenses honest. Elliott is still in one of the best situations in the league and he's one of the best talents at his position. Taking him #2 overall over Saquon Barkley isn't crazy even though Barkley will go #2 in most drafts.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott (illness) said he is feeling better but is not able to work out at this point. Elliott said he dealt with coughing and shortness of breath for a day or two because of COVID-19.

Footballguys view: Great news for Elliott and the Cowboys here. It was reported that he had COVID-19 about a week ago and is on the road to recovery. The NFLPA recommended that players do not work out in groups together and obviously Elliott was staying inside while getting healthy. He'll be good to go when training camp rolls around.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott shoulders rare workload    Sat May 30, 11:25 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott had 355 touches in 2019, making him the first running back since Ladainian Tomlinson in 2006 and 2007 to have back-to-back seasons with at least 350 touches.

Footballguys view: The NFL is a different game these days with most teams passing a heckuva lot more than they run the ball. When teams do go to the ground, using a RBBC has become en vogue. That's not the case with the Cowboys and Elliott. He's one of the best RBs in the game and is the centerpiece of the team's offense. His heavy workload should continue in 2020.

Vikings | Dalvin Cook a force in close    Thu May 21, 11:43 PM

Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook finished in a tie for first with Ezekiel Elliott for the most rushing touchdowns scored inside the 5 in 2019 with nine.

Footballguys view: Cook is a perfect fit for the Gary Kubiak offense. He's incredibly capable of setting up blockers and has the patience to gash defenses in the zone-blocking system. Cook is the centerpiece of what the Vikings do on offense and that will continue in 2020.

Cowboys | Addition will benefit Ezekiel Elliott    Sat May 16, 12:47 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott will be one of the biggest beneficiaries with the Cowboys drafting WR CeeDee Lamb in the first round, according to a team beat reporter. Per Pro Football Focus, Elliott averaged 5.1 yards per carry when rushing in 11 personnel, fifth-highest among the 23 NFL players with at least 80 eligible carries in 2019. Additionally, Elliott led the NFL in rushing yards from 11 personnel with 823 yards on 161 attempts. With WRs Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and Lamb, defenses must respect the Cowboys' ability to pass and generally will be forced to replace at least one linebacker with a defensive back, switching to a nickel or dime sub-package.

Footballguys view: That only makes sense from a gameplanning standpoint. With more weapons in the passing game, defenses won't be able to stack the box to stuff the run more regularly. Elliott is one of the best in the game and a virtual lock to finish as a top-5 fantasy back (again) in 2020.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott moves the chains    Tue Mar 31, 11:13 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott has led the NFL in rushing first downs in each of the previous two seasons, picking up 84 in 2018 before adding 78 more in 2019.

Footballguys view: Elliott is one of the toughest running backs to bring down on third down...or any down. He'll continue as the centerpiece of what the Cowboys do on offense in 2020.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott rushed 19 times for 81 yards and two touchdowns and caught two passes for 12 yards in a 31-24 loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 14.

Footballguys view: Elliott was the biggest hit for the Dallas offense on an underachieving night for a highly regarded unit. He's still sporadic in the passing game heading into a matchup against the Rams.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott ran for 71 yards on 12 carries and caught seven of 10 targets for 66 yards but was held out of the end zone in the Week 13 loss against the Buffalo Bills.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott likely to receive normal workload    Sat Sep 21, 08:43 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is expected to receive his normal workload in Week 3's game against the Miami Dolphins, according to offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

Footballguys view: Elliott should go off against the Dolphins...but the team might pull him from the game when things get out of hand. Even if he doesn't quite get his normal workload, Elliott could finish Week 3 as the top-scoring fantasy running back. We'll see if backup Tony Pollard can get enough work against the hapless Dolphins to be a 'what the heck' flex for Fantasy GMs.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott seeks more touches    Sat Sep 14, 01:45 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott says he's ready for a larger workload after logging 13 rushing attempts for 53 yards and catching one pass for 10 yards in the team's Week 1 win over the New York Giants. 'I think I'm ready now for a normal workload,' Elliott said Wednesday, Sept. 11. 'It just depends on how ... (the coaches) are feeling on Sunday. But if they ask, I'll be able to go out there and do it.'

Footballguys view: The Cowboys were managing Elliott's touches after a lengthy holdout. With that first game out of the way, it's time to start using him as the centerpiece of the offense. We're excited about what Kellen Moore is bringing to the table as the OC of the Cowboys and obviously Elliott is a top RB1 for Fantasy GMs.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott impressed head coach Jason Garrett in his return to practice, but Garrett said Thursday, Sept. 5, that it's 'too early' to say if Elliott will be on a pitch count Sunday, Sept. 8, in the season opener.

Footballguys view: You're still starting him anyway as an RB1 for your fantasy team. Elliott may be limited but he could still be productive. Tony Pollard becomes more of a 'what the heck' flex with Elliott coming back.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott to be limited in Week 1    Wed Sep 4, 09:27 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is slated for 20 to 25 repetitions in Week 1 Sunday, Sept. 8, against the New York Giants.

Footballguys view: That sounds about right. Elliott could still post RB1 numbers even with a low snap count because he just showed back up after an extended holdout. Fantasy GMs who got him at a discount should be over the moon to start him even in a limited role for Week 1.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott deal gets done    Wed Sep 4, 08:05 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott agreed to a six-year, $90 million extension that makes him the highest-paid running back in the league Wednesday, Sept. 4. It's worth $103 million over eight years in total with $50 million guaranteed.

Footballguys view: Elliott surpasses Todd Gurley in annual average salary, now making $15 million per year with this new deal. He's now under contract with the Cowboys through the 2026 season. Elliott may get ramped up in Week 1 with limited snaps, but after that it's on. He's a no-brainer starter as a RB1 for Fantasy GMs every week.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott in shape to play    Tue Sep 3, 07:11 PM

Footballguys view: If Elliott signs at some point before Week 1 then Fantasy GMs would have to trust him as a low-end RB1 (at least) in his first game back. It shouldn't take too long for Elliott to get back up to speed with his teammates.

Cowboys | No progress with Ezekiel Elliott    Mon Sep 2, 10:21 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott's contract talks continued through Sunday, Sept. 1, but a deal is still not close. A source said 'everything' was holding up the deal.

Footballguys view: Like sands through the hourglass, these are the days of our lives. Soap opera aside, this Elliott situation seems to change every other day. They're moving towards a deal, then next thing you know 'everything' is holding up the deal. With the regular season right around the corner, things seem dire in terms of Elliott actually being able to play in Week 1. Stay tuned.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott likely to miss multiple games?    Fri Aug 30, 01:58 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is expected to miss 'regular season games,' in the opinion of owner Jerry Jones, who spoke on Elliott's contract following the team's preseason finale against the New York Giants. While the two sides have been in communication, nothing appears imminent, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

Footballguys view: Now Mike Florio's report speculating six missed games seems more relevant. Even if Elliott does miss six games, among the worst case scenarios, he is still worth a third round pick at the very worst, and probably still a second. There's a chance he returns earlier than that, and if he missed only 2-3 games, he's still worth a first round pick. Tony Pollard is likely moving up to the 7th-8th round on this news, and he'll be a low RB1 against the Giants Week 1 if Elliott doesn't report.

Cowboys | Dallas optimistic that Ezekiel Elliott deal can be finalized    Sat Aug 24, 10:23 AM

Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones believes a contract extension with RB Ezekiel Elliott will be finalized before the regular-season opener Sept. 8, although he doesn't think a deal will happen in the next few days because there hasn't been much recent activity.

Footballguys view: Earlier this week, ESPN's Ed Werder (so good to see him back with the four-letter network), reported the Cowboys had offered Elliott a contract that would make him the second-highest paid running back in the league behind Todd Gurley. We'll need to see more in order to get this deal done. Right now, Fantasy GMs are still drafting Elliott as a top-10 pick. If he was not holding out, Elliott would easily be a top-four selection.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott reportedly received a contract extension offer from the team that would make him one of the two highest-paid running backs in the league, according to a source.

Footballguys view: This is probably put out there by the team to make their offer look good, but Elliott thinks he deserves more if he didn't accept the deal. The nitty gritty is coming in the next two weeks, we'll see who blinks first. Tony Pollard's value will keep rising in the meantime.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys have some big-money deals to hand out, and they are dragging their feet at this time...at least with these three players. Footballguys view: Hopefully Elliott is staying away from the LenDale White diet of tequila shots down there in Cabo. The two sides are not close in contract negotiations, but things can and do change quickly in the NFL. Stay tuned.
