NFL | Associates of Colin Kaepernick contacted by NFL teams    Sat Jun 27, 08:41 AM

Friends and associates of free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) have been contacted by several NFL teams, as clubs continue to do research on him, according to multiple sources familiar with those conversations.

Footballguys view: Okay...that's associates of Kaepernick but that is not the veteran himself. Teams are warming up to the idea of adding him to the roster but no official contact has been made. We'll be more interested in his return when teams are actually bringing him in for workouts. That may happen around the time training camp starts.

NFL | Colin Kaepernick has not been contacted    Fri Jun 26, 03:19 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) has not been contacted by any team over the last several weeks.

Footballguys view: There has been a ton of speculation about teams having interest but nothing official just yet. Tones have changes around the league about Kaepernick but until we start seeing him get workouts for teams, it's difficult to get too excited about his return to the NFL. We'll see if that changes as training camp draws near.

Lions | New Lions owner would support Colin Kaepernick signing    Tue Jun 23, 03:51 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) would be supported by new Detroit Lions principal owner Sheila Ford Hamp if general manager Bob Quinn and the coaching staff choose to sign him, Hamp said Tuesday, June 23.

Footballguys view: The Lions gave Chase Daniel five million dollars guaranteed on a three-year, $13 million dollar deal and they still like David Blough as a developmental third quarterback, but Kaepernick would probably be an upgrade from Daniel if Stafford's presents issues again. It looks more and more like Kaepernick will be signed somewhere every day.

Raiders | Mark Davis supports adding Colin Kaepernick    Thu Jun 18, 02:47 PM

Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis said Wednesday, June 17, he embraces the idea of the team signing free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers). 'Since 2017, I've told the coaches and general managers that if they want to hire Colin Kaepernick, they have my blessing,' Davis told ESPN.

Footballguys view: The Raiders have Derek Carr and Marcus Mariota in the mix to compete for the starting job this year. We're hearing more interest about Kaepernick around the league but no workouts have been scheduled yet. Stay tuned.

Chargers | No workout with Colin Kaepernick yet    Wed Jun 17, 07:50 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is not scheduled to work out for the Los Angeles Chargers at this point, according to head coach Anthony Lynn. Lynn said the team has not been in contact with Kaepernick.

Footballguys view: The Chargers head coach did admit that Kaepernick would be a great fit for what they do. However, they already have veteran Tyrod Taylor who could be the starter while rookie first-round pick Justin Herbert develops.

Chargers | Colin Kaepernick a standby option for LAC?    Wed Jun 17, 01:13 PM

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn told reporters he is happy with the team's three quarterbacks when asked about possibly signing free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick. 'Definitely fits the style of quarterback for the system we're going to be running,' Lynn said. Kaepernick and Lynn haven't spoken, but the quarterback appears to be on the team's emergency list, in the opinion of NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: The Chargers have Tyrod Taylor as the starting quarterback...at least he should be able to hold off 2020 first-round pick Justin Herbert in training camp. The offense is going to feature bootlegs and rollouts which Kaepernick ran in the offense with the 49ers years ago. The Chargers are a team who could make the postseason and turn some heads in the playoffs.

Eagles | Philly not ruling out Colin Kaepernick    Wed Jun 17, 12:23 PM

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson appeared Wednesday, June 17, on the 94WIP Morning Show with Angelo Cataldi and was asked about the possibility of signing free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers). 'I think it's something that if a team or even us were in a situation, we would look at all possibilities and scenarios,' Pederson said. 'The one thing you have to keep in mind is he hasn't played in a couple years. That still doesn't mean he couldn't come in and be a backup and learn your system and do those things for you. It's not out of the realm or possibility that could happen.'

Footballguys view: The Eagles have unproven players like veteran Nate Sudfeld and rookie Jalen Hurts behind starter Carson Wentz. It's good for the team to keep all options open in case they feel they need a better plan. Wentz is a fine starter but he has struggled with injuries at times during his career. The Eagles want to make another deep postseason run, and they don't want their season de-railed if Wentz gets banged up again.

Patriots | Colin Kaepernick unlikely to Patriots    Mon Jun 15, 10:33 AM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is unlikely to sign with the New England Patriots, in the opinion of beat writer Mike Reiss. Reiss believes if you see Kaepernick in a New England uniform, it's because somebody above head coach Bill Belichick on the Patriots totem pole made the move.

Footballguys view: That means Robert Kraft would have to make the call to add Kaepernick. The Patriots are moving on from Tom Brady this year and we'll see Jarrett Stidham compete with Brian Hoyer for the starting job. Kaepernick has been trying to get back into the league for years, and we'll see if someone finally gives him a shot this season.

NFL | Colin Kaepernick drawing interest    Fri Jun 12, 09:31 AM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) has drawn interest from an undisclosed team. Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said a team contacted him about Kaepernick Thursday, June 11. The Seahawks were interested in Kaepernick after he opted out of his contract with the 49ers in 2017.

Footballguys view: The Steelers, Broncos, Rams, and Titans could also use an upgrade at backup quarterback, but this could be any number of teams. The chances of Kaepernick playing in the NFL this year have gone up significantly after recent events in the United States.

Seahawks | Colin Kaepernick unlikely an option    Thu Jun 11, 05:47 PM

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll indicated that free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) likely will not be an option for the Seahawks.

Footballguys view: There was a time when Kaepernick could have been an option for Seattle. They were interested in bringing him in as a backup to Russell Wilson years ago but nothing ever came to fruition.

Browns | Former CLE coach wanted team to sign Colin Kaepernick    Sun Jun 7, 09:29 AM

Former Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson said that he wanted the team to sign free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) in 2017, during a radio interview with WKNR-AM's Tony Rizzo and Aaron Goldhammer. However, Jackson did not have the ability to make personnel decisions and the Browns selected DeShone Kizer in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft instead.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick could end up back in the league after the recent change of tone about his protests before games. He would have some fantasy value as a running quarterback if he ends up starting at any point this year.

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick's scheduled workout Saturday, Nov. 16, was postponed and will be moved to an alternative location in Atlanta on Saturday afternoon. The workout will be open to the media and all NFL team representatives as allowed under league rules.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick wanted transparency in this process and the league was not going to let the media into the original workout. Reports have come out from the workout that Kaepernick's arm looked fine, but of course there is more for teams to consider than just his physical ability. We'll see if some team actually brings him in on a contract.

The Denver Broncos will have a scout in attendance for free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick's (49ers) workout on Saturday, Nov. 13, according to general manager John Elway.

Dolphins | Miami to attend Colin Kaepernick's workout    Wed Nov 13, 03:21 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is scheduled to hold a private workout for teams Saturday, Nov. 13, and Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores said the Dolphins will have a representative at the workout.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins has looked high and low for quarterback options. They're going with Ryan Fitzpatrick now but they did trade for 2018 first-round pick Josh Rosen earlier this year. Neither one of those guys are likely to be their starter in 2020....Kaepernick may not be either, but they'll do their due diligence.

NFL | Colin Kaepernick ready for workout    Tue Nov 12, 07:49 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) shared a message on Twitter Tuesday, Nov. 12, addressing the previous reports of the league-arranged free-agent workout Saturday, Nov. 16. I've been in shape and ready for this for 3 years, can't wait to see the head coaches and GMs on Saturday,' Kaepernick wrote.

Footballguys view: We'll see how much attendance this workout gets from teams around the league. Kaepernick has not played since 2016 but there are likely to be at least a few teams seriously interested if he looks good in his workout.

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is interested in becoming the Miami Dolphins' starting quarterback, according to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora. A source close to Kaepernick told La Canfora the quarterback is training hard and 'ready to play.'

Footballguys view: With the Dolphins trading away Ryan Tannehill to the Titans on Friday, the only two quarterbacks on their roster are Luke Falk and Jake Rudock. Expect them to make a move for a seasoned starter. Perhaps that is Kaepernick but we're not holding out breath.

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) received an offer from the Denver Broncos this offseason, but he decided to decline the offer, according to general manager John Elway.

Footballguys view: This is a little bit of misdirection as it neglects to point out that Kaepernick had not knelt yet and was going to have to forego a significant amount of his contract as the San Francisco 49ers refused to pay it. It makes it sound like it is recent and it isn't.

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) may meet with the Seattle Seahawks at a later date once his plans for football and his stance on social issues are considered and finalized.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick is a natural fit behind Russell Wilson and the Seahawks have kicked the tires on him before. If the only issue is truly having a set plan for his social issues -- really agreeing to the meeting seems like a clear plan for football -- one would imagine the thing will get done.

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) was discussed as an option after QB Deshaun Watson (knee) was lost for the season, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Ravens | Colin Kaepernick hits snag with Ravens    Wed Aug 2, 10:56 AM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) has received support from Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh and general manager Ozzie Newsome, but there's resistance to signing him from owner Steve Bisciotti, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Owners will be most concerned about the perception of the team, and some might have political beliefs that make Kaepernick's actions tough to stomach. This rift might have played out on other teams that considered Kaepernick this offseason.

Ravens | Baltimore has talked with Colin Kaepernick    Sun Jul 30, 08:10 PM

The Baltimore Ravens have had direct discussions with free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers), team president Dick Cass said Sunday, July 30.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick starred under Jim Harbaugh during his time with the 49ers. Jim's brother John is the coach of the Ravens, so the connection is clear. The Ravens need a quarterback during camp with Joe Flacco banged up and Ryan Mallett stinking up the practice field. It's unclear if Kaepernick would join a team where he clearly doesn't have a shot at the starting job.

Ravens | Colin Kaepernick interested in Baltimore    Sat Jul 29, 02:38 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is interested in playing for the Baltimore Ravens, according to sources. Kaepernick has not talked with any teams about money.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick would be a backup to Joe Flacco if added but he may want to wait and see what happens during camp with other teams. If injuries hit, Kaepernick could get an opportunity to be the starter elsewhere. That's just not a possibility with an established quarterback like Flacco in Baltimore.

Ravens | Colin Kaepernick still an option for BAL    Fri Jul 28, 04:05 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is still considered an option for the Baltimore Ravens but part of the decision will depend on QB Joe Flacco's (back) status.

Footballguys view: Kaepernick will only be necessary if it looks like Flacco's back isn't getting better and could affect him in season. He should get signed at some point once teams get a good look at their backup situation or a starter injury happens in camp or the preseason.

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is not an option for the Buffalo Bills, according to general manager Brandon Beane.

Ravens | Colin Kaepernick has Ravens' interest    Thu Jul 27, 11:57 AM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) has interest from the Baltimore Ravens, according to head coach John Harbaugh.

Footballguys view: We're not sure how long Joe Flacco will be out--we've heard anything from 3-to-6 weeks to 'soon'--but Kaepernick would be a decent option in this offense and with the weapons and run game there, we could see him be successful. We've thought all along that it would take an injury to get Kaepernick in camp. Whether or not the Ravens pull the trigger, it seems pretty clear that we were right.

Seahawks | Money an issue between Colin Kaepernick, SEA    Sat Jun 3, 02:05 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) has not signed with the Seattle Seahawks at this point because the two sides can't agree to a salary.

Footballguys view: The language of the NFL is money, and Kaepernick should not expect much on the open market. In fact, Seattle has been the only team to show interest in him. Perhaps if/when injuries hit in training camp his phone will start ringing...with better offers than Seattle had for him.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said the team will not be signing free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) at this time but did not rule out the possibility in the future.

Footballguys view: The Seahawks are the only team that has shown interest in Kaepernick so far this offseason. They left the door open to add him later, and that might be just what happens. Trevone Boykin is not a reliable backup option, but he's the guy for now behind Russell Wilson.

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is not close to an agreement with the Seattle Seahawks at this point even though they had a nice visit.

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) said he wants to be with the Seattle Seahawks and doesn't mind backing up QB Russell Wilson. His meeting with the Seahawks went very well, according to a source.

Footballguys view: We think this would be a great fit. On the field, the offense plays to Kaepernick's strengths and would help cover some of his weaknesses. Off the field, Seattle is a generally liberal town and his kneeling - which he isn't even doing anymore - won't cause much angst.

Updating previous reports, free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) is meeting with the Seattle Seahawks Wednesday, May 24, but is not working out for the team, according to a source.

Footballguys view: With so much film on Kaepernick, it's not like the Seahawks need to see him work out. They'll need to see if he can pass a physical and see how much he tips the scale. That's about it. They need a better backup behind Russell Wilson, and Kaepernick would give them just that.

Updating an earlier report, free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) will visit with the Seattle Seahawks Wednesday, May 24, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The connection is there from previous reports, but now it's official. The Seahawks are in need of a better backup QB behind Russell Wilson and Kaepernick could easily be that guy...if he's willing to be a clear reserve. Currently, the Seahawks have Trevone Boykin behind Wilson but he's been in trouble with the law twice this offseason.

Seahawks | Seahawks have interest in Colin Kaepernick    Tue May 16, 01:03 AM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) has drawn interest from the Seattle Seahawks, who reached out to his agent last week. The interest in Kaepernick as a potential backup quarterback is 'legit.'

Footballguys view: Seattle only has Trevone Boykin as the backup behind Russell Wilson, but Boykin has been in trouble with the law twice this offseason. Kaepernick may want to be a starter, but that gig isn't likely to present itself to him. He could fit in nicely on a championship caliber team if he's willing to accept a backup role.

Seahawks | Seattle looking at free-agent quarterbacks    Mon May 15, 02:12 PM

Free-agent QBs Colin Kaepernick (49ers) and Robert Griffin III (Browns) have drawn interest from the Seattle Seahawks as possible backups to QB Russell Wilson.

Footballguys view: It's a smart move for the Seahawks. Last year's backup QB, Trevone Boykin, was arrested twice in 11 days back in late March and early April. Boykin was undraftd out of TCU in 2016, and he's incredibly raw at the position. Getting a player like Kaepernick or Griffin would insure the team has valuable veteran depth behind Wilson.

NFL | Colin Kaepernick still has interest    Thu May 11, 04:44 PM

Free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) has drawn interest from three teams since the start of free agency, according to Kaepernick's adviser.

Footballguys view: We are pretty sure Kaepernick will get a job somewhere, and while his kneeling may have turned off some teams, the fact that Jay Cutler couldn't find a job either might lessen some of the drama about Kaepernick's unemployment. Other issues are his shaky tendencies on the football field, and the very specific set of skills and fit in scheme.
