Week 12: vs Oakland Raiders

All TE vs OAK

FBG says: Good matchup. In the midst of a nightmarish sophomore season, Sam Darnold may finally be hitting some kind of stride. Over his last 3 games, he's completed 66% of his throws at a respectable 7.9 yards per attempt, with 6 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. It's important to remember that Darnold is still just 22, and that the Jets offense is still very much building around him. At the very least, he and slot man Jamison Crowder (45 receptions over 7 games together) have shown great rapport on quick-hitting slants and underneath routes. Still, the Jets would love to see Darnold fine-tune his connection with top wideout Robby Anderson to truly kick-start this attack. Anderson has grown into more than just a deep-ball decoy, yet he and Darnold just aren't on the same page most of the time. The pair closed 2018 very strongly, and they roasted the Cowboys for 125 yards and a long touchdown back in Week 6. But over 5 games since, Anderson has produced just 103 and a single score - a short catch last week against a busted Washington coverage. Demaryius Thomas has been more involved of late, though the explosive Anderson always carries the higher ceiling. The hope is that Darnold's development matches up with it, as it did down the 2018 stretch (84 yards per game and 3 scores over the final 4 weeks). The Raiders trot out one of football's most talent-hungry units, and also one of fantasy's most beatable. They've shown well over the past 2 weeks against the spiraling Chargers and the Ryan Finley-led Bengals, but struggled against virtually everyone else. Other quarterbacks are averaging 312 yards in this matchup, and 6 of 7 have thrown multiple touchdowns. They put very little heat on opposing passers, and the cornerbacks have played musical chairs for much of the year. They can't expect much help down the field, either: since preseason wrapped up, the Raiders have lost their top three safeties to injury, forcing them to plug in a handful of journeyman types. D.J. Swearinger was signed last week and immediately stepped into 60% of snaps, but he's long been a liability in coverage. This unit is still trying to find its footing, and baby steps are being made. But it still looks like a get-right opportunity for Sam Darnold and his floundering Jets.

2019 Week 10 vs NYG (1 / 1 / 15 / 0 rec, 1 / 2 / 0 rush)

Wesco had his first catchy and first carry against the Giants and made a pretty nice impact with his reception, a 15-yard play in the fourth quarter which extended a Jets drive which resulted in a field goal to extend the Jets' lead. Wesco showed he might deserve a look by the Jets passing offense with Chris Herndon out again.
