Week 15: at Baltimore Ravens - $5000

All WR vs BAL

FBG says: Bad matchup. Sam Darnold continues to flash difference-making potential, as seen on last week's 26-yard touchdown strike to Robby Anderson. From the shotgun, Darnold stepped up through pressure while Anderson broke off his route into the open, and the in-stride throw resulted in an impressive touchdown. Still, consistency evades Darnold, who continues to struggle when hurried and send off too many errant throws. He's only been intercepted twice over the past five weeks, but has had several close calls. Last week, Darnold again struggled mightily to throw effectively down the field, hitting on just 2 of his 9 deep passes (15+ yards downfield). At least his connection with Anderson looks back on track. Anderson has recorded 86, 101, and 116 yards over the past 3 games, producing even without big-time deep balls. The free agent-to-be is playing for a contract, and he closed 2018 on a similar tear, so he looks like a matchup-proof play at the moment. Unfortunately, there's not much fantasy value anywhere else. Jamison Crowder (just 56 yards over the past 3 weeks) is locked into a low-impact slot role, while Demaryius Thomas and tight end Ryan Griffin are novelty pieces in this attack. The Baltimore pass defense has been a tale of two units here in 2019. After a rocky start to the year, the team added cornerback Marcus Peters in the trade market and got Jimmy Smith back from injury at midseason. Over 7 games since, they've been football's stingiest group, giving up just 5.2 yards per opponent dropback and a league-low 5 touchdowns. Peters, Smith, and Marlon Humphrey make up an elite cornerback trio, and they've teamed to contain the likes of DeAndre Hopkins, Emmanuel Sanders, and John Brown in recent weeks. Earl Thomas is an ideal free safety behind them, proving an upgrade over even the rock-solid Eric Weddle. This secondary would be even more dominant if not for a hit-or-miss pass rush, though at least linebacker Matt Judon has been relentlessly disruptive throughout the year. All told, this is simply not an ideal get-right matchup for the Jets' struggling pass game. Sam Darnold will have his hands full looking for the gaps in this ultra-talented unit.

Recent Game Summaries

2019 Week 14 vs MIA (4 / 2 / 28 / 1 rec - 9.8 points, $5000)

Demaryius Thomas' biggest moment was a flash of the old Thomas as he fought hard for the ball to get a touchdown. Quarterback Sam Darnold threw just a little too far inside, allowing the Dolphins' defender a chance to make a play. He reached across Thomas' body to wrench at the ball but Thomas kept a tight grip on it though as they crossed the goal line, after which the ball came loose. Thomas had made three steps, which is considered a football move, and the ball broke the plane while he still had possession. In the end that was enough for a touchdown.

2019 Week 13 vs CIN (5 / 3 / 23 / 0 rec - 3.8 points, $5200)

Thomas was not terribly effective against the Bengals, and mostly caught the ball on short, quick routes.

2019 Week 12 vs OAK (3 / 2 / 22 / 0 rec - 3.2 points, $5200)

It was a relatively quiet day for Thomas, with the least amount of targets since Week 9 against Miami. While he did seem to have some issues getting open on occasion, this was likely more an issue of Robby Anderson and LeVeon Bell having good days.

2019 Week 11 vs WAS (5 / 4 / 44 / 0 rec - 6.4 points, $5200)

Thomas is not the receiver he once was, but he is slowly gaining more of Sam Darnold and the offense's trust, and if his impact is a bit limited due to his waning skillset, he still makes some nice plays, such as on his catch and run for 13 yards in the first quarter. Still, his use is scattershot, and he's not a top option in this offense.

2019 Week 10 vs NYG (9 / 6 / 84 / 0 rec - 11.4 points, $4700)

Thomas led the team in targets, catches and yards, as he not only did a good job catching passes thrown his way, but finding extra yards on many of his receptions. On one such play early in the first quarter, Thomas caught a short pass from quarterback Sam Darnold and quickly had Giants safety Antoine Bethea on him to make the tackle. But Thomas made a sharp jump cut that had the safety grasping air, and then continued upfield for a gain of 16-yards. He hit for even bigger yards in the fourth quarter. Darnold had to scramble and found Thomas open on a drag route about 15 yards downfield, heading towards the sideline. Darnold hit him in stride and Thomas immediately turned upfield while hugging the sideline. Thomas gained 47-yards before eventually being taken down.

2019 Week 9 vs MIA (3 / 2 / 19 / 0 rec - 2.9 points, $4800)

Thomas had a really nice catch to convert on a fourth down but was otherwise absent from the gameplan.

2019 Week 8 vs JAX (5 / 5 / 63 / 0 rec - 8.8 points, $4800)

Thomas caught all of his targets but didn't make much of an impact overall. Whether because he gets open quickly or because it's being schemed to happen, Thomas is getting as many looks as anyone on this offense, but he's not able to break free enough to pile up any real yardage.

2019 Week 7 vs NE (9 / 3 / 42 / 0 rec - 5.7 points, $4800)

Thomas saw a surprising nine targets to lead receivers, and drew several flags to move the chains. That said, he had a bad drop early and hasn't really shown the ability to consistently break free of coverage before or after the catch.

2019 Week 6 vs DAL (5 / 4 / 62 / 0 rec - 8.2 points, $4800)

As he came into the game with some hamstring and knee issues, Thomas' output should be no surprise, though he did catch all but one of his targets and seemed to do a good job of getting open on a consistent basis.

2019 Week 5 vs PHI (9 / 4 / 47 / 0 rec - 6.7 points, $4500)

Thomas led the team in yards, though not catches, as he lined up outside and Jamison Crowder moved back to the slot. He had a bad drop that should have been a touchdown and was the target on one of Falk's interceptions. He looks like he isn't hampered by the hamstring which had sidelined him since early in the Week 2 game against Cleveland.

2019 Week 2 vs CLE (2 / 1 / -1 / 0 rec - 0.4 points, $4700)

Despite not practicing with the team all week, Thomas was active, but ended up leaving early as he re-aggravated his hamstring. His night was notable for being the only wide receiver with a catch at halftime.

Our View: Vyncint Smith should play a larger role tonight with Thomas out. Ty Montgomery will back up Le'Veon Bell with Powell out. Adams being out is a big blow for an already shaky pass defense.
