TE Kaden Smith - New York Giants
|6-5, 255||Born: 4-24-1997||College: Stanford||Drafted: Round 6, pick 176 (2019)|
2019 Week 12 vs CHI (6 / 5 / 17 / 1 rec)
Kaden Smith managed a short touchdown in the redzone but little else as the back up tight end had a very narrow role on Sunday. Smith was wide open in the flat for a touchdown from Jones after an excellent fake to Barkley sprung the tight end. For the rest of the game, he was catching checkdown passes very short and he had no real room to work with. Not much is expected and this was not a great game for the offense in general. Best left on the waiver wire.
2019 Week 13 vs GB (8 / 6 / 70 / 0 rec)
Kaden Smith was the leading receiver for the Giants on Sunday but most of this came from a big play as time was expiring in the fourth quarter. Smith got open and hauled in a big pass from Jones and managed to escape the defense momentarily for a big play. Smith showed good chemistry with Jones on the run and caught several checkdown passes in times of pressure. Jones used Smith over the middle when the pass rush almost got there. Smith has been forced into the role as primary tight end due to the injuries sustained by the Giants to the position. Considering this, he has performed well and shown a decent connection with the rookie quarterback. It is tough to recommend him as a fantasy play however as the Giants entire offense is so inconsistent and gets mediocre production in the passing game.
2019 Week 16 vs WAS (8 / 6 / 35 / 2 rec)
Kaden Smith really contributed well on Sunday and came up with two crucial touchdowns. He started off with a short screen pass that went for few yards, speed and agility isn't his best asset as a player. Smith was wide open in the endzone and settled in a soft spot to provide an easy throwing lane for Jones for the score. Smith scored again on a simple slant pattern over the goal line and secured it while he boxed out the defender for a second touchdown. He showed very dependable hands, catching a lot of balls in traffic and over the middle. Smith also has good chemistry with Jones and can read the soft spot in zone coverage when given time. Somewhat unreliable as a every week fantasy starter, he's worth a flyer due to the touchdown potential.
2019 Week 17 vs PHI (11 / 8 / 98 / 0 rec)
Kaden Smith was the leading receiver for the Giants but some of this came in garbage time on the final few drives when the Giants had no realistic chance of winning the game. Smith did get wide open deep on a seam route and hauled in a nice ball. He secured another big first down on a deep out pattern. Smith showed a good vertical leap, getting high for a lofty ball on a curl route but made the catch regardless. He did have one potential catch knocked loose after a hard hit dislodged the football but it was a tough catch to make in traffic. Smith has acquitted himself well this season and been inserted into the starting line up for most of the second half of the season. He has solid hands and route running to get open but is more of a pass catching tight end. With Engrams future in the air due to all his injuries, Smith could be back for more in 2020 with the Giants.
