Recent Game Summaries

2019 Week 19 vs BAL (3 / 2 / 12 / 1 rec)

Jonnu Smith had minimal involvement with just two catches for 12 yards, but he did score the first touchdown of the game with a highlight-reel one-handed catch in the left corner of the end zone from 12 yards out. It was a third-and-goal play, and Smith was very well covered on his route. He stayed focused on the ball though, and after getting one hand on it, Smith batted the ball back to himself, obtained control, and got two feet down while falling backwards out of the end zone.

2019 Week 18 vs NE (2 / 1 / 9 / 0 rec)

Jonnu Smith caught the first pass of the game for the Titans--a short pass for nine yards. That was his only involvement in the offense beyond a false start penalty later on that same drive in the first quarter.

2019 Week 16 vs NO (4 / 3 / 63 / 1 rec)

Jonnu Smith's day got started with a bang as his first touch of the game was a 41-yard touchdown, the second-longest play of the game for this Titans offense. The defense bit on play action while Smith ran a great route down the seam to find himself wide open in the middle of the field. Smith then showed that spectacular acceleration, even outrunning cornerback Marshon Lattimore on his way to the end zone. Smith would lead off the following drive with another nice play as he caught a short pass just about a yard from the line of scrimmage, but got the advantage of a terrible angle taken by the Saints defender as Smith accelerated down the left sideline for a 17-yard gain.

2019 Week 15 vs HOU (5 / 5 / 60 / 0 rec, 1 / 57 / 0 rush)

Jonnu Smith was absent from the Titans offense in the first half, with the exception of a spectacular defensive play to catch up to Whitney Mercilus to make a touchdown-saving tackle after a Tannehill interception. The second half was another story for Smith as he gained all 117 of his all-purpose yards. That big half started in an unorthodox way as the Titans drew up a running play for Smith, who took a toss from Tannehill and found room to run on the right sideline. Smith showed incredible acceleration as he streaked down the field for what ended up being a 57-yards gain, the longest run play of the day and the longest run by any tight end in over 40 years. On the next drive, Smith caught his first pass of the game on a screen to the left side of the field for 10 yards. Smith led off the fourth quarter with a 16-yard catch, then hauled in another big reception of 17 yards to start off the following drive. That 17-yard reception looked like it was going nowhere as the defensive back put a nice hit on Smith at the line of scrimmage, but Smith basically ran right through the tackle attempt and proceeded downfield for the first down. Smith's last three receptions came on sequential plays to open up the last meaningful Titans drive of the game, with his best play being a 23-yard reception over the middle of the field.

2019 Week 14 vs OAK (4 / 3 / 29 / 1 rec)

His first was a screen pass on the first drive that went nowhere as the Raiders defense saw it coming. His second was a short route over the middle on which he picked up 10 yards and a first down. His third was his highlight of the game as Smith battled very tough coverage to bring in a jump ball while falling backward in the end zone, scoring from 17 yards out.

2019 Week 10 vs KC (6 / 4 / 30 / 0 rec)

Jonnu Smith led the Titans in receptions with four but amassed just 30 yards on what was a very low volume passing day for this offense. Smith's longest play of the game came on a short screen pass in the second quarter as Smith fought for extra yards to complete a nine-yard gain. Smith also had a 20-yard reception called back due to a holding penalty on the offensive line.

2019 Week 8 vs TB (7 / 6 / 78 / 1 rec)

Jonnu Smith flourished with an opportunity to step up given Delanie Walker's inactive status this week as Smith finished leading the Titans in all receiving categories. His first reception was a touchdown from five yards out--also the first completion of the day for Tannehill. Smith took the defense by surprise lined up wide left and ran quick slant which ended in the easy reception for the score. He did drop a short pass near the end of the first quarter, but Smith's next opportunity netted him 26 yards on the biggest pass play of the day. Tannehill found Smith with a great ball in stride as Smith hauled it in over the shoulder and took a big hit, but held on to the ball to complete the catch. Smith was called for a false start penalty to lead off the second half, but he made up for it with a short six-yard reception on the next play. Smith would play a big role in the game-winning touchdown drive as he led it off with a 17-yard screen pass where he picked up extra yards after nearly being tripped up. Two plays later, Smith was wide open down the seam for another big gain of 20 yards as he accounted for the first 37-yards of this critical drive.

2019 Week 7 vs LAC (3 / 3 / 64 / 0 rec)

Smith made three big catches in Sunday's win over the Chargers. He was the recipient of Tannehill's first pass of the game as Smith did a great job adjusting to the ball while bringing it in over his shoulder in the middle of the field for a 24-yard gain. His next catch was one of the biggest plays of the game for a Titans player. On 3rd-and-14 just after halftime, Smith caught a short pass just two yards from the line of scrimmage and should have been tackled for a short gain. Instead, Smith shed right through an arm tackle before turning upfield, shedding another arm tackle, and churning his way to a huge 35-yard gain. His final catch came within the red zone as he caught a short pass for five yards to help set up a Titans touchdown on the next play.

2019 Week 5 vs BUF (2 / 1 / 57 / 0 rec)

Tight end Jonnu Smith broke free for 51-yards from a screen pass late in the third quarter. This was just his fifth reception of the year, but Smith showed great speed to turn on the burners and get through early tackle attempts as he rumbled downfield.

Titans | Divisional Round stats for TEN (Sat Jan 11, 11:30 PM) - Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Tannehill passed for 88 yards and two touchdowns Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Divisional Round of the playoffs. Our View: The Titans were able to move the ball on the ground with great success against the Ravens and that was their key to success. That's their formula for winning most every week and it worked to near perfection in the Divisional Round.
