2014 Week 9 vs KC (3 / 8 / 39 / 0 / 0 pass, 1 / 2 / 0 rush)
Matt Simms played one series during the fourth quarter as Michael Vick was checked for a concussion. All of Simms's attempts were within five yards of the line of scrimmage. Percy Harvin caught one quick screen and accelerated into the open field for 21 yards.
2013 Week 8 vs CIN (3 / 7 / 17 / 0 / 0 pass, 3 / 35 / 0 rush)
Early in the fourth quarter, New York benched Smith and brought in Matt Simms to finish off the game. Cincinnati led by 40 points, so Simms was only used to finish the game. Cincinnati played zone coverage, so Simms had some open running lanes. Simms led the team in rushing yards, which is telling as to how dominant Cincinnati's Front 7 was.
2013 Week 11 vs BUF (4 / 6 / 60 / 1 / 0 pass, 0 / 0 / 0 rush)
Early in the fourth quarter, Matt Simms took over for Geno Smith. Facing a 34-7 deficit, Simms found some success against Buffalo's zone coverage. Simms completed his first three passes which culminated with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Jeff Cumberland. Cumberland ran a post route and Simms delivered a strong throw for the score. Simms led one more drive into the Buffalo territory, but his throws were off target and he turned the ball over on downs. After the game, Rex Ryan confirmed that Geno Smith would start next week against Baltimore, but his tone suggested Smith would be on a short leash.
2013 Week 13 vs MIA (9 / 18 / 79 / 0 / 1 pass, 2 / 2 / 0 rush)
Matt Simms started the second half after Rex Ryan benched Geno Smith. Facing a 6-0 deficit, Simms did not provide the spark Ryan hoped for. Simms went three-and-out on his first drive and fumbled away a botched handoff on his second drive. Miami capitalized on Simms' futility and carried a 20-3 lead into the fourth quarter. During the fourth quarter, Simms completed 7-of-13 passes attempts. Simms did string together five straight completions, mainly on check downs, but an untimely sack and interception in the endzone killed the drive. Simms targeted Stephen Hill on a seam route, but the pass was underthrown and intercepted by Brent Grimes. Simms played like an undrafted rookie that did not receive many reps during practice. New York should give Simms a start next week against Oakland. He can't possibly play worse than Smith.
