Recent Game Summaries
2018 Week 17 vs GB (4 / 24 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec - 2.4 points, $4300)
Theo Riddick had a quiet game against Green Bay. He was held without a catch but contributed four carries on primarily interior running plays. Riddick is effective on interior runs but is viewed in a primarily receiving role.
2018 Week 16 vs MIN (3 / -2 / 0 rush, 5 / 4 / 7 / 0 rec - 4.5 points, $4100)
Theo Riddick had a forgettable day in a loss to Minnesota. Riddick was used repeatedly on low probably third and long plays including screens and interior runs that were unsuccessful. Riddick can create mismatches against linebackers, but Detroit simply refuses to use him creatively, while throwing four targets to LeGarrette Blount. Riddick is a talented pass catcher who can make defenders miss, but rarely gets the opportunity to do so on screens that target him at the line of scrimmage. Riddick would benefit from a change in scheme in the offseason.
2018 Week 15 vs BUF (8 / 47 / 0 rush, 3 / 2 / 9 / 0 rec - 7.6 points, $4400)
Theo Riddick saw expanded use in the running game against Buffalo and had several successful interior runs. Riddick nearly scored a touchdown on an interior run where he broke into the second level of the defense and was barely tripped up inside the 5-yard line. While Riddick was used more in the running game, his passing game usage dropped with only two short catches on three targets, despite slot target Bruce Ellington missing the game. Riddick will face Minnesota next week.
2018 Week 14 vs ARI (6 / 28 / 0 rush, 4 / 4 / 30 / 0 rec - 9.8 points, $4700)
Theo Riddick had a good game against Arizona. The good news was Riddick led the team in receiving. The bad news was he only had 4 catches for 30 yards. Riddick's passing game work came out of the backfield more this week than in prior weeks when he lined up in the slot. He was also effective in the running game out of the shotgun where he had good runways on his 6 carries. Riddick will face Buffalo next week.
2018 Week 13 vs LAR (8 / 32 / 0 rush, 4 / 3 / 26 / 0 rec - 8.8 points, $4700)
Theo Riddick saw limited usage against the Rams on Sunday. Riddick was used to spell LeGarrette Blount in the backfield briefly and saw 8 carries on the game, but his passing game usage was limited to 4 targets, largely a result of the emergence of Bruce Ellington in the slot. Riddick had an opportunity for a touchdown on an angle route where he was open, but Matthew Stafford's arm was hit as he threw, and the ball was too low for Riddick to catch. Riddick faces Arizona in week 14.
2018 Week 12 vs CHI (2 / 12 / 0 rush, 7 / 7 / 48 / 0 rec - 13 points, $0)
Theo Riddick tied with Bruce Ellington for the second most targets behind Kenny Golladay. Riddick has benefitted from the absence of both Kerry Johnson and Marvin Jones with heavy use in the short passing game. Riddick was targeted on multiple screens and angle routes but had the opportunity for a long touchdown on a wheel route. Riddick caught the ball on the play, but the throw was behind him and forced him to break stride. Riddick was forced out of bounds in the red zone and it set up a LeGarrette Blount touchdown. Riddick should benefit from negative game script against the Rams next weekend, but Johnson's injury status is important to monitor.
2018 Week 11 vs CAR (1 / 0 / 0 rush, 7 / 5 / 30 / 0 rec - 8 points, $4000)
After two weeks of extensive slot usage, Riddick had a more limited role in the Detroit offense against Carolina. Recently signed Bruce Ellington was used in the role Riddick played the past two weeks, which tempered Riddick's slot usage. He caught a swing pass and angle route out of the backfield in the first half and later caught a shovel pass for a 17-yard gain on the critical scoring drive late in the game. Riddick will face Chicago on Thanksgiving.
2018 Week 10 vs CHI (0 / 0 / 0 rush, 7 / 6 / 60 / 0 rec - 12 points, $3800)
For the second consecutive week, Theo Riddick has seen slot usage in an attempt to replace Golden Tate. Riddick is a lesser version of Tate but did manage to create after the catch on multiple short throws in the slot, including multiple third down conversions. While Riddick has maintained a role in the slot, Kerryon Johnson has continued to see a passing game role of his own out of the backfield. With the loss of Tate, the Riddick will be able to maintain a role in the passing game despite Johnson's continued emergence as a three down back. Riddick will face Carolina next week.
2018 Week 9 vs MIN (0 / 0 / 0 rush, 8 / 7 / 36 / 0 rec - 10.6 points, $3800)
Theo Riddick returned after missing the last two games with an injury. Riddick was used in the slot frequently throughout the game as an attempt to replace the recently traded Golden Tate. Riddick tied Marvin Jones with a team leading 8 targets and was able to catch 7 of them. However, he was unable to spring any big gains. When Detroit got behind, Riddick operated as the passing game back, a role that was filled by Kerryon Johnson in Riddick's absence. The Detroit offense is evolving its identity without Tate, and Riddick could see an expanded role in more split out alignments like he did on Sunday. He faces Chicago next week.
2018 Week 5 vs GB (3 / 3 / 0 rush, 3 / 2 / 20 / 0 rec - 4.3 points, $4000)
Theo Riddick had a quiet game on a day where Detroit got up early and had clear advantages on the outside. Riddick's catches were check downs, including attempts short of the chains on long third downs. Riddick continues to be the pure passing game option in the backfield and largely dependent on negative game script and two-minute drills for fantasy opportunity.
2018 Week 4 vs DAL (1 / 7 / 0 rush, 5 / 4 / 20 / 0 rec - 6.7 points, $4300)
Theo Riddick got the opportunity for passing game work against Dallas and was involved in a two-minute drill at the end of the second half. Riddick is a reliable receiving option, but is not frequently used in the running game, and has fantasy appeal only in negative game script.
2018 Week 3 vs NE (0 / 0 / 0 rush, 3 / 3 / 36 / 0 rec - 6.6 points, $4400)
Theo Riddick had a quiet night, with Detroit leading throughout the game and using Kerryon Johnson and LeGarrette Blount heavily. Riddick did convert a third down late in the game, with a good option route out of the backfield.
2018 Week 2 vs SF (0 / 0 / 0 rush, 12 / 9 / 47 / 0 rec - 13.7 points, $4000)
Theo Riddick saw the second most targets on the team with 12 against the 49ers. Riddick was used extensively in the passing game during the hurry up offense at the end of the first half and late in the fourth quarter. Riddick could have had a better game, but Stafford was errant on multiple targets to Riddick. Riddick's could have added another big reception but dropped a pass on third down on the final drive of the game. The throw was low, but Riddick had his hands on it. An on target throw and catch could have set up a large gain and potentially put Detroit in field goal range.
2018 Week 1 vs NYJ (4 / 20 / 0 rush, 7 / 5 / 15 / 0 rec - 8.5 points, $4200)
Theo Riddick saw extended time with the Lions playing in garbage time but was largely ineffective. He averaged just over two yards per target and three yards per catch on check down type passes. Riddick was the clear passing game player with Abdullah inactive.
