Jason Pierre-Paul's 'best case' scenario for the 2019 season is to miss five to six months, according to most reports. The enforced absence stems from a single car accident in which the defensive end injured his neck. After consultations with doctors, it was determined that Pierre-Paul did not require surgery, but the rehab time will eat into his season. Beau Allen is likely to take his place until he returns, but how much impact he will have at that point is anybody's guess. (May 12)

Buccaneers | Jason Pierre-Paul opts against surgery (Fri May 10, 04:54 PM) - Updating previous reports, Tampa Bay Buccaneers DE Jason Pierre-Paul (neck) has opted against surgery after receiving several opinions on his fractured vertebra, according to multiple sources.

Our View: There is hope he could play this year, but the team should be making alternate plans. 2016 second-round pick Noah Spence will need to find his game, and this year's fourth-round pick Anthony Nelson might be a pleasant surprise. It's still a big blow to a defense that might not have been able to afford it.
