RB Jarrett Payton - Free Agent
|6-0, 218||Born: 12-26-1980||College: Miami (FL)||Drafted: ---|
2005 Week 4 vs IND (4 / 37 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)
Walter Payton's son was activated for the game, and promoted to the team's second string RB behind Chris Brown. Payton saw no action of any kind throughout the game until total garbage time on the Titans' last series. With the outcome of the game solidly a Titans' loss, Payton took four straight carries for 37 yards gained against a Colts' defense playing six and seven man deep prevent. There isn't a backup in the league that needs to be more ready than the #2 Titans RB though so watch this young man very closely.
2005 Week 5 vs HOU (8 / 11 / 1 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)
Payton was given some sweet opportunities, entering the game when the Titans' offense neared the goal line and scoring his first NFL touchdown on a five yard carry. He had one other positive carry for six yards, but his six other garbage time carries netted a goose egg.
2005 Week 6 vs CIN (2 / 11 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)
Payton saw brief action in the second quarter, relieving Brown for a couple of plays. He had two carries for 11 yards with one of those carries going for negative yardage.
2005 Week 7 vs ARI (12 / 30 / 0 rush, 3 / 2 / 5 / 0 rec)
Payton touched the ball just twice before the injury to starting RB Chris Brown, and then quickly became the featured back. Payton filled in as best he could, but performed as an average runner at best. He touched the ball 14 total times, gaining just 35 yards. Nine of his touches went for three yards or less, and his longest play went for only eight yards. Most notably Payton failed to gain a single rushing first down. Payton is clearly the second back of choice in Tennessee at the moment behind Chris Brown, but that all will likely change once RB Travis Henry returns this week.
2005 Week 12 vs SF (1 / 2 / 0 rush, 2 / 1 / 4 / 0 rec)
Payton was not a factor in the game, finishing with two yards rushing and four yards receiving on one catch.
2005 Week 14 vs HOU (2 / 4 / 0 rush, 1 / 1 / 7 / 0 rec)
Payton was used in the game as a complimentary back to RB Chris Brown once RB Travis Henry left the game with an injury. Whenever Brown needed a play off, Payton stepped in. Payton finished the game with three touches and 11 total yards.
2005 Week 15 vs SEA (3 / 9 / 1 rush, 2 / 1 / 9 / 0 rec)
Payton entered the game at the end of the Titans third possession. He scored on a three yard run, but only had one more carry from that point on. His target statistics were inflated because QB Steve McNair was twice throwing the ball away in his direction.
2005 Week 16 vs MIA (0 / 0 / 0 rush, 2 / 1 / 5 / 0 rec)
Payton only caught one pass in the game for five yards and was not used until the game was pretty much over.
