Week 6: vs Carolina Panthers - $3400

All RB vs CAR

FBG says: Neutral matchup. The Buccaneers continue to rotate Ronald Jones (59 rushes on the season) and Peyton Barber (61) on the ground, with moderate success. Jones had pulled nominally ahead in this battle by last week, though they drew their typically-even split on Sunday. Both were predictably bottled up by the Saints' underrated run defense, though Jones continued to look much more spry and explosive. He's now averaging 4.6 yards per rush to Barber's weak 3.5. Barber is a one-speed runner with little elusiveness and only average power for a 225-pound back. He still boasts the edge in fundamentals, though, consistently picking up what's blocked by the Buccaneers' solid front line. All told, there's not much upside to project even if one of these backs were to claim the lion's share of work. Coach Bruce Arians has never put much high-leverage faith in his ground game, and through five weeks, it's clear that hasn't changed. Jones and Barber have combined for just 97 yards a game, and neither sees much goal-line opportunity. That keeps both saddled most weeks with low overall upside and very mediocre floors. The Carolina run defense has been decent through five games - not as bad as some of the numbers suggest, but not as good as the sum of its parts. It's encouraging that they stifled this Tampa Bay ground game in Week 2, allowing just 3.4 yards per rush to Peyton Barber and Ronald Jones. But they've been worked over elsewhere, giving up 5.2 in their other 3 games. They did a decent job Sunday against Leonard Fournette, but surrendered a huge hole for a 48-yard scamper in the fourth quarter. That's been a hallmark of this group thus far: solid play, but with just enough lapses to allow for big efficiency in the box score. Inside linebackers Luke Kuechly and Shaq Thompson are the backbone of this unit, and while both are generally solid, they've had their struggles of late. Fournette's long run was a perfect snapshot of those, with Thompson overpursuing a bit and Kuechly a step slower into the hole than he used to be. Luckily, their Week 6 rematch with the Buccaneers isn't imposing. They'll face off against a solid front line, but a fairly vanilla attack that doesn't spring many of those wide lanes. Even with star down lineman Kawann Short on injured reserve, the Panthers boast enough talent and depth to win this battle again.

2019 Week 1 vs SF (0 / 0 / 0 rush, 6 / 4 / 33 / 0 rec - 7.3 points, $3000)

Ogunbowale slid right into the third down/passing back roll that he was expected to, though Barber did draw his fair share of targets while moving around the formation and even lining up some at WR. Ogunbuwale did not log any carries in his pass-catching role, but he did secure four of five targets for 33 yards with the Bucs playing from behind much of the game.
