Denver Broncos general manager John Elway had long been a fan of Drew Lock. He scouted him in person when Lock was at Missouri, pretty much stalked him at the Senior Bowl (telling Lock he would be a top-10 pick), and there are rumblings that Lock was the no.1 quarterback on the Broncos board in the 2019 NFL draft. The fact that they got him in the second round is a win-win for both sides. Lock is not a finished product although all the physical tools are there for him to one day be a franchise quarterback. He's big, sneaky athletic, has a rocket arm and is known as a good leader. However, Lock needs to improve his footwork to help his accuracy and pass placement. He also needs a more consistent release point when he throws in order to the best pro he can be. He has no pressure on him as a second-round pick, and he's got time to learn behind Joe Flacco (who Elway says is still in his prime). The team has no pressure to start him either, so they should have the proper patience (and a plan) for their young passer. (May 6)

Broncos | Drew Lock out for a while (Tue Aug 20, 02:19 PM) - Denver Broncos QB Drew Lock (thumb) was diagnosed with a badly sprained right thumb Tuesday, Aug. 20. Although he is out indefinitely, he will not require surgery, according to a source.

Our View: Lock thought it was a mild sprain but it turns out to be a little more serious. This changes the Broncos pecking order at quarterback. Kevin Hogan is now more likely to make the 53-man roster as the backup to Joe Flacco. When Lock is healthy, he should take over that spot.

Broncos | Kevin Hogan still in the mix for QB2 (Sat Aug 17, 02:40 AM) - Denver Broncos QB Kevin Hogan is 'absolutely' still in competition for the backup job with QB Drew Lock, according to offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello; Lock has received the majority of the second-team reps during practice this past week.

Our View: That's what the team has to say at this point but Drew Lock is taking over. We've seen an increase in Lock's snaps with the second-team offense over the last week or so. If Lock continues to progress, he could open the season as the primary backup to Joe Flacco.
