Week 15: vs Cleveland Browns

All TE vs CLE

FBG says: Good matchup. Case Keenum has been a disappointment in his first year as the starter in Denver. He is completing just 61.8% of his passes and has 10 interceptions to go along with his 15 touchdown passes. The pass offense has been especially poor the last four games. Denver hasn't thrown for more than 205 yards since Week 11. Part of the problem with the Denver passing attack has been the lack of stability at wide receiver and tight end. One longtime starter, Demaryius Thomas, was traded midseason while the other, Emmanuel Sanders, was recently placed on injured reserve with a torn Achilles. Injuries have also decimated the tight end position, with Jeff Heuerman, Jake Butt, and Troy Fumagalli all landing on injured reserve. Matt LaCosse is the last man standing at the position. Denver's remaining healthy wide receivers are the least experienced group in the league. Rookie Courtland Sutton leads the group with his 30 catches. He has caught just 46.2% of his targets but is averaging a league-best 19.1 yards per catch. Sutton was forced out of last week's game with a thigh injury but should be ready to go this week. If Sutton is limited fellow rookie, DaeSean Hamilton should see significant volume. Hamilton came into Week 14 with just five catches on the season but hauled in 7 passes for 47 yards and a touchdown. The Browns defense has faced the most passing attempts in the NFL (41.2 per game) and ranks 31st in yards allowed at 277.9 per game. The big yardage totals are a bit misleading, however. Cleveland is allowing just 6.8 yards per attempt, good for 11th best in the league. The Browns have allowed just three passing touchdowns over the past three weeks and gave up no touchdowns to Cam Newton last week. The biggest issue with the pass defense has been the lack of pass rush. Despite having one of the league's top young pass rushers in Myles Garrett, Cleveland ranks 28th in sack rate. The cornerbacks have been solid across the board, with rookie Denzel Ward flashing shutdown potential. He was forced to miss last week's game with a concussion and will miss this game for the second straight week. The good news for the Browns is that Terrance Mitchell came back and played well last week. While it will be a big loss for the Browns without Ward, it would have been significantly worse without Mitchell who is a solid corner who should immediately be the Browns number one on the outside along with T.J. Carrie and Briean Boddy-Calhoun out of the slot.

Recent Game Summaries

2018 Week 14 vs SF (1 / 1 / 3 / 0 rec)

LaCosse continues to disappoint as Denver's top tight end option. He caught his only target for a 3 yard gain. Fellow tight end Brian Parker didn't do much better, but did get a target in the end zone in the 4th quarter.

2018 Week 13 vs CIN (1 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)

After watching fellow tight ends Jake Butt and Jeff Heuerman go down for the season, LaCosse assumed the role of starting tight end with disappointing results. He was targeted just once on a shallow out route that failed to connect.

2018 Week 12 vs PIT (4 / 3 / 34 / 1 rec)

LaCosse had a "career day' of sorts, finding the end zone for the first time in his career. He started his day in the 2nd quarter, catching a short out route and turning upfield for an 8 yard gain. Keenum found him for a 17 yard gain up the left sideline late in the 2nd, then hit LaCosse for a short touchdown on the next play. LaCosse worked his way open on a short curl route and plowed through a couple of defenders as he crossed the goal line. LaCosse had another nice sideline reception that was ruled just barely out of bounds early in the 3rd quarter. LaCosse's 4 targets were tied with Sutton for second most on the team to Emmanuel Sanders' 12. Jeff Heuerman left the game late in the 4th and is done for the season with rib and lung injuries, so LaCosse could keep trending up.

2018 Week 11 vs LAC (2 / 1 / 9 / 0 rec)

LaCosse had a quiet day, securing one pass for a 9 yard gain on the final offensive drive of the game.

2018 Week 9 vs HOU (1 / 1 / 44 / 0 rec)

LaCosse hauled in an out route in the 2nd quarter and turned it up the right sideline, barreling down the field for a 44 yard pickup on his only target of the day. He also hauled in an out route for a decent gain that was negated by a penalty in the 4th quarter.

2018 Week 8 vs KC (5 / 4 / 29 / 0 rec)

LaCosse secured a short out route and turned it up the right sideline for a decent gain early in the 2nd quarter. Keenum hit him on a crossing route late in the 3rd quarter for another short gain. LaCosse secured two identical passes on consecutive plays late in the 4th quarter, both of them out routes towards the sideline to stop the clock while picking up short gains.

2018 Week 7 vs ARI (1 / 1 / 12 / 0 rec)

LaCosse worked behind Jeff Heuerman in the tight end rotation. He caught his only target for a 12 yard gain late in the 2nd quarter.

2018 Week 6 vs LAR (4 / 1 / 7 / 0 rec)

LaCosse got some limited work in the passing game as the second tight end. He was overthrown on a short out route in the 2nd quarter. Keenum found him for a short gain at the end of the 2nd quarter, then overthrew him on a corner route on the next play.

2018 Week 5 vs NYJ (2 / 2 / 19 / 0 rec)

LaCosse mixed into the tight end rotation with Heuerman. He caught a curl route for an 11 yard gain in the 4th quarter, then hauled in a short crossing route on the final drive of the game.

2018 Week 4 vs KC (1 / 1 / 17 / 0 rec)

LaCosse worked behind Heuerman, catching one target on an out route and turning it up the left sideline for a 17 yard gain in the 3rd quarter.
