Week 11: vs Arizona Cardinals

All RB vs ARI

FBG says: Great matchup. The San Francisco 49ers run the ball more than any team in the NFL, and their rushing attack has featured two primary running backs when healthy. Since returning from injury, Tevin Coleman has played approximately 50-percent of offensive snaps each week, tallying just over 10 carries per game. Matt Breida, the team's change-of-pace back typically plays closer to 35-percent of offensive snaps each week, registering about 10 carries per game himself. Breida got banged-up on Monday night against the Seattle Seahawks, and head coach Kyle Shannahan said he is "day-to-day" ahead of the team's week 11 game. If he is unable to go, Coleman should see an increased workload in the backfield for the 49ers. San Francisco's offensive line welcomed back two Pro-Bowl-level players last week when tackles Joe Staley and Mike McGlinchey returned from injury. Their returns bolster an already-impressive offensive line, and they are primed to dominate the Cardinals in the trenches in week 11. The Arizona Cardinals' defense has faced the eighth-most rushing attempts this season, which is both a product of their up-tempo offensive attack that maximizes both team's possession numbers, as well as the typical game scripts that accompany a 3-6-1 start to the season. The Cardinals have also allowed 4.5 yards per carry this season, which ranks in the bottom-third of all NFL defenses. Arizona's defense is especially weak in the trenches, where they field zero above-average run-stoppers this season. Then, at linebacker, Jordan Hicks and Haason Reddick have both struggled in run defense this year. Reddick has been miserable at middle linebacker this year, failing to convert his top-tier athleticism into production at the position. Both Reddick and Hicks have been plagued by missed tackles this season, as both have compiled 12 on the year. The lone bright spot on Arizona's defense against the run comes in the secondary, where Budda Baker is one of the league's best young all-around safeties. Baker ranks 2nd in the NFL with 60 total tackles on the season, and his consistency is critical in Arizona's defense. Overall, the Cardinals have allowed at least 100 rushing yards in every game this season, and a matchup against the San Francisco 49ers' top-ranked rushing attack is unlikely to change that. If Matt Breida is unable to play for the 49ers, look to Tevin Coleman to assume a larger workload and post impressive rushing totals here in week 11 against Arizona's porous run defense. If Breida does play, look for Coleman and Breida to continue to split work in the backfield, with both posting strong efficiency totals on limited volume.
