Week 11: vs Dallas Cowboys - $3800
FBG says: Tough matchup. Since Detroit's number-one running back, Kerryon Johnson underwent knee surgery about one month ago, the Lions' backfield has turned into a full-blown running-back-by-committee. J.D. McKissic, Ty Johnson, and Paul Perkins all see snaps, with only one of them holding down a clearly-defined role. McKissic, a former wide receiver, is the team's passing-down running back, which led to increased usage last weekend when the Lions were playing from behind against the Chicago Bears. McKissic totaled 10 carries in the game while Johnson and Perkins each registered 5 of their own in the game. The Lions' offensive line is an adequate unit, ranking 23rd in the league, according to FootballGuys' Matt Bitonti, but they are not anything to write home about. Expect all three running backs to play a factor in the Lions' backfield once again this week. McKissic is the leading candidate to see the most action this weekend if Detroit falls behind on the scoreboard as expected and needs to turn to a pass-heavy offensive approach. The Dallas Cowboys' defense is one of the most well-rounded run defenses in the NFL this season. The Cowboys rank just 17th in the league in yards per carry allowed, but against the tough schedule that they have faced, this is a very respectable mark. The Cowboys have allowed only 2 100-yard performances this season, with one coming in week 1 on the backs of one 59-yard rush by Saquon Barkley that accounted for more than 50-percent of his rushing production on the day. The second came in a heroic 19-carry, 104-yard, and 4-touchdown performance by Aaron Jones. Dallas' run defense is led by two All-Pro-level talents in the front-seven. Along the defensive line, Demarcus Lawrence is not only one of the league's best pass-rushers, but also one of the league's premier run-stoppers on the edge. Then, at linebacker, Jaylon Smith leads the team with 48 total tackles on the season. Smith grades as one of the NFL's best run-stoppers this season, and his impact in the middle of this run defense cannot be overstated. Expect the Lions to struggle to move the ball on the ground this week, especially if Matthew Stafford is unable to play, which will allow the Cowboys to load the box against backup quarterback Jeff Driskel.

Recent Game Summaries
2019 Week 10 vs CHI (5 / 16 / 0 rush, 1 / 1 / 3 / 0 rec - 2.9 points, $4100)
Ty Johnson drew the start in the backfield for the Detroit Lions against the Bears, but left in the first quarter with a concussion and did not return. Johnson did some good work as a runner before his exit, with a good interior run and physical finishes on his runs. He also caught a ball in the flat and looked like an integral part of the game plan without Matthew Stafford before exiting. He will be in the concussion protocol and is a player to monitor during the week before the Lions face Dallas next week.
2019 Week 9 vs OAK (9 / 29 / 0 rush, 3 / 3 / 7 / 0 rec - 6.6 points, $4900)
Ty Johnson was the primary ball carrier early in the game for the Lions before J.D. McKissic saw extensive playing time in the second half. Johnson was good running on the interior and saw a goal-line opportunity but was held scoreless. He also had three receptions but was stopped right at the catch on two receptions in the flat. On a positive note, both receptions were well covered and Johnson did a good job holding onto both balls. He projects for committee usage next week against a tough Bears defense.
2019 Week 8 vs NYG (7 / 25 / 0 rush, 4 / 1 / 13 / 0 rec - 4.8 points, $4900)
Ty Johnson entered the week as a popular projection to replaced injured Kerryon Johnson, but he worked behind Tra Carson early in the game against the Giants. Johnson entered the game on the second drive and saw his first carry after Carson had five touches. Johnson had the best run of the day where he displayed his speed by burning the perimeter containment to the edge. Despite finishing behind Carson in touches, Johnson had the opportunity to salvage his day, but dropped a target on a wheel route and had a near miss later in the game on a ball off his fingertips that was just overthrown. Johnson likely would have scored on the play, but it would have taken a remarkable one-handed catch to haul in the throw. He also added a good physical interior run that was called back by penalty. Johnson projects for a committee role next week against the Raiders.
2019 Week 7 vs MIN (10 / 29 / 0 rush, 4 / 4 / 28 / 0 rec - 9.7 points, $3800)
Ty Johnson was the beneficiary of Kerryon Johnson missing extended time during the game against the Vikings. Ty Johnson struggled to get interior running room in the game, but out carried J.D. McKissic 10 to 5, while working in the more traditional running back role. Johnson worked as receiver and got two carries inside the ten yard line. Johnson is a capable two-way player who has had limited usage behind Kerryon Johnson in the offense but showed enough for Detroit to cut C.J. Anderson earlier in the season. The status of Kerryon Johnson will be critical as Ty Johnson is a viable option next week against the Detroit Lions who were shredded by Arizona backup running back Chase Edmonds.
2019 Week 4 vs KC (3 / 13 / 0 rush, 1 / 1 / 1 / 0 rec - 2.4 points, $3000)
Ty Johnson was the clear second back behind Kerryon Johnson in a loss against the Kansas City Chiefs. Johnson worked as a reserve behind Kerryon Johnson with only four touches on the day. He projects as a pure backup without standalone value against Green Bay in week six after a week five bye.
2019 Week 3 vs PHI (4 / 5 / 0 rush, 2 / 1 / 0 / 0 rec - 1.5 points, $3000)
Ty Johnson was the backup to Kerryon Johnson against the Eagles after C.J. Anderson was cut during earlier in the week. Johnson had a small role, rotating in with Kerryon Johnson with extended work on a series in the third quarter. He was also split out for a screen that was well defended. Johnson's value is more of a hedge against a Kerryon Johnson injury than any standalone weekly value. He faces the Chiefs next week.
Latest NewsLions | Ty Johnson clears protocol (Sat Nov 16, 12:55 PM) - Detroit Lions RB Ty Johnson on Saturday, Nov. 16, officially cleared the concussion protocol and has been removed from the team's Week 11 injury report. Our View: Johnson should be the lead ball-carrier for the Lions as they play the Cowboys in Week 11. In this tough matchup, and with his lack of production so far as the starter, Johnson is just a deep flex play for Fantasy GMs. J.D. McKissic will get work as the team's pass-catching back.

DT Damon Harrison (groin, rest), P Sam Martin (abdomen), DE Romeo Okwara (groin) and DB Tracy Walker (knee) were limited in practice Friday, Nov. 15, and are listed as questionable. RB Ty Johnson (concussion) was upgraded to a full practice Friday and is also listed as questionable. WR Danny Amendola (hand), DT John Atkins (wrist), DT Mike Daniels (foot), S Will Harris (quad), S Miles Killebrew (concussion), DT A'Shawn Robinson (ankle, thumb) and C Darius Slay (neck) practiced in full Friday and have been removed from the injury report. Our View: Wagner being out will hurt a Lions offense already without its starting quarterback against one of the best pass rush units in the league.
link to story Lions | Ty Johnson listed as limited (Thu Nov 14, 05:06 PM) - Detroit Lions RB Ty Johnson (concussion) was limited during practice Thursday, Nov. 14. Our View: JD McKissic's sleeper appeal takes a hit with this news, although McKissic still has a pulse in PPR leagues.
link to story Lions | Ty Johnson sits out Wednesday (Wed Nov 13, 04:32 PM) - Detroit Lions RB Ty Johnson (concussion) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 13. Our View: The Lions are awfully thin at the running back position. Fantasy GMs in super deep leagues might be considering a Lions back as a 'what the heck' flex but that's about it.
