Week 11: at Cleveland Browns
FBG says: Neutral matchup. The Steelers passing offense has not been the same offense that we have become accustomed to since Ben Roethlisberger was lost for the season. Mason Rudolph who was known for his deep ball at Oklahoma State, has largely played game manager in the NFL averaging just 6.6 yards per attempt and has surpassed 250 yards just once (251 yards against Miami in Week 7). While Rudolph has been an issue, part of the problem for the Steelers has been lack of consistency amongst its wide receivers. JuJu Smith-Schuster has struggled in three of the last four weeks as he has five or fewer targets in those games and has 20 yards or less in two of those games. James Washington and Diontae Johnson are both talented players but have been up and down for most of the season and the Steelers have gotten almost nothing out of the tight end position for most of the year as Vance McDonald has been a check-down type receiver. The Browns pass defense has been a unit that for most of the season has been a middle of the road defense. They have not allowed a 300-yard passer, and have only allowed one quarterback to throw for 3 touchdowns this year. However, the problem is once you look deeper underneath the stats as while they have allowed the 7th fewest passing yards per game, they have allowed the 11th highest yards per attempt at 7.5 YPA. This is a unit that has been in a bit of turmoil for most of the season as rookie Greedy Williams and Denzel Ward both missed significant time and are just starting to play together once again and are starting to play better. The good news is this is one of the first times all season that the Browns are fully healthy as they did get Damarious Randall back from injury last week which as this defense comes together it has tremendous talent it will just be a matter of coming together to finish the season strong. As of now, until they prove it, they should be considered a league-average pass defense.

It would be simple to sit back and look at the box score and think "Duck wasn't asked to do much in this game" or "Duck was just a bus driver for the offense". Making either of these statements would be a dramatic mischaracterization of his performance. Hodges was consistently getting ball out of his hands quickly, throwing the ball accurately and delivering a catchable ball for his receivers. The Chargers pass rush didn't even have an opportunity to get into the backfield to make a play and the team left the game without a single sack. Hodges was even able to handle two bad snaps. One was a handoff to Conner and the other was in the red zone. Hodges scrambled back for the ball and had enough game awareness to get to the outside of the pocket and throw the ball away. Hodges did have one interception on the game. In the fourth quarter, with the Steelers up by 21 points, Hodges threw one of his only passes over ten yards. Unfortunately, there was a defender breaking on Diontae Johnson and was able to make the play right in front of him. Hodges' best play of the game came in the third quarter. It was a play action and there were blitzers coming off the left side of the line. Hodges drifted back in the back to allow the defenders to get closer and then threw an accurate ball to James Conner.
