Recent Game Summaries
2019 Week 6 vs NE (11 / 38 / 0 rush, 2 / 2 / -3 / 0 rec)
Jon Hilliman had a tough time getting yards on the ground in the first half for the Giants but got slightly more productive as the game went on. The Giants didn't have much of a passing game to keep the Patriots honest so they often loaded the box against Hilliman. He was swarmed and hit early on a lot of plays up the middle but found some gaps later in the game. Hilliman was able to build up enough momentum to push defenders back at the line occasionally. He got mostly check down passes from Jones when he faced pressure but unfortunately one of these led to a costly fumble in the second half. Hilliman was hit quickly after he caught a short pass and the ball was knocked loose, which may damage the Giants confidence in the young player. It was a tough situation to play in but the Giants will be getting Gallman/Barkley back soon, likely leaving Hilliman on the outside again.
2019 Week 5 vs MIN (9 / 20 / 0 rush, 2 / 1 / 4 / 0 rec)
Jon Hilliman accomplished very little on the ground on Sunday against the Vikings and wasn't a factor in the passing game either. Injuries forced him into the lineup against a stout Minnesota defense that gave up very little room. He was used up the middle a lot on dives and delays but couldn't get into a rhythm. The Giants were down early in this game and the running game had to be abandoned somewhat in favour of the passing game, which didn't make life easier for Hilliman. He got the most carries and clearly was the #1 back when Gallman went out but the production was sub-par. The Vikings defense hit him hard and quickly when he got the ball and it just wasn't his day to contribute offensively.
2019 Week 4 vs WAS (10 / 33 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)
Hilliman was better between the tackles than Wayne Gallman, getting north south and gaining yards after contact, and making sharp moves to hit holes and find cutback lanes. He was mostly successful as a runner, but didn't see much action after he fumbled close to the Washington goal line.
