RB Corey Grant - Free Agent
|5-11, 205||Born: 12-19-1991||College: Auburn||Drafted: ---|
2018 Week 1 vs NYG (1 / 3 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)
Entered the game on the first drive in a split backfield set with Fournette. Ran a quick swing route and made the catch for a couple of yards. Really only used as a decoy in the second half, with his occasional snaps mainly leading to play action fakes. The Jaguars used him as a second RB in their two back shotgun package on just one play. He simply was not involved in the gameplan from a manufactured touch standpoint from this week and got almost no traditional RB looks even after Fournette went down. His usage will be interesting to monitor, especially next week against New England - whom he burned on manufactured touches in the teams' AFC Championship Game meeting last year.
2018 Week 2 vs NE (4 / 13 / 0 rush, 7 / 6 / 56 / 0 rec)
Grant rotated with Yeldon on the day and was extremely effective as a receiver out of the backfield in this game. He checked in on the first drive and on his first snap caught a check down after play action and got upfield for 15 yards and a first down. He had a huge 3rd and 7 conversion in the redzone on a Texas route out of the backfield later in the game. He received the few carries the Jaguars ran from under center (they played in shotgun most of the game) but none of his carries were especially productive. While Grant has been a manufactured touch player to this point, he did make some nice plays within the flow of the offense in this game.
2018 Week 3 vs TEN (6 / 11 / 0 rush, 2 / 1 / -1 / 0 rec)
With Leonard Fournette out again, Grant and Yeldon continued to split duties in the backfield. He ran a fake punt on second drive of the game, but the Titans were ready for it and stopped it. He is not effective as an inside runner from under center. . At this point, Grant is a manufactured touch player who does not offer much as a runner.
2018 Week 4 vs NYJ (1 / 5 / 0 rush, 3 / 2 / 12 / 0 rec)
Grant played only a handful of snaps even after Fournette went down and was not a factor in the game.
2018 Week 5 vs KC (1 / 8 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)
Grant appeared to roll his ankle on his only touch of the day. Donte Moncrief - Moncrief had a decently productive albeit unimpactful day. He continues drawing a significant amount of deep targets that are neither open nor catchable throws He got redzone backshoulder fade target that he got his hands on but could not come down with the catch through contact
2017 Week 3 vs BAL (6 / 75 / 0 rush, 1 / 1 / 18 / 0 rec)
Corey Grant outproduced and out-snapped Chris Ivory on Sunday. Grant provides much more explosion and speed than Ivory does, though he will not break many tackles. There was not much running room for him against the Ravens, though the Jags did use him as the rusher on a fake punt. They did this in the preseason too, showing they have specific plays drawn up for him.
2016 Week 17 vs IND (18 / 122 / 1 rush, 2 / 2 / 15 / 0 rec)
The former UDFA kick returner got the start at RB due to injuries to both Ivory and Yeldon and he looked....better than both of them ever did this season. I don't get it either. His vision, ability to break tackles, and his explosion was spectacular. He hit the hole at 100 mph and made the most of every single run. His speed was highlighted by a 50+ yard touchdown run, in which he simply outran the angles of every Colts defender. A player to keep and eye on for next season.
