Recent Game Summaries
2019 Week 10 vs CAR (4 / 2 / 59 / 0 rec - 6.9 points, $5800)
Jimmy Graham caught two passes on four targets for 59 yards in the Packers win over the Panthers on Sunday. 48 of Graham's 59 yards came on one catch where the Panthers completely lost track of him in the middle of the field. Rodgers moved a defender out of his line of sight by pump-faking to the outside before hitting Graham. To his credit, Graham was not going down easy, as he bull-rushed two defenders like the old Jimmy Graham and picked up another 10 yards after the catch. The tight end position is quite shallow these days, and at the very least, Graham has a floor that makes him a solid bye week fill in.
2019 Week 9 vs LAC (4 / 4 / 17 / 0 rec - 3.7 points, $6000)
Jimmy Graham caught four passes on four targets for 17 yards in the Packers loss to the Chargers on Sunday. Graham posted a stat line that is slowly becoming an every week standard. He is seeing between three and five targets per game over the last five weeks, with two games of 41 and 65 yards, and the other three under 20 yards receiving. The Chargers linebackers are led by Joey Bosa, so it was a given that Graham was not going to outrun him up the seam, which even further limited Graham's floor and ceiling. Graham is hovering around the back end of starting fantasy tight ends, but that is only because the position is so shallow this season.
2019 Week 8 vs KC (5 / 3 / 20 / 0 rec - 3.5 points, $6000)
Jimmy Graham caught three passes for 20 yards on five targets in the Packers win over the Chiefs on Sunday. IT was the sixth straight game this season where Graham has been held under 65 yards receiving, although he does have three touchdown catches on the season, which puts him on the fringe as a #2 tight end, and a potential bye week replacement. The days of Graham being a playmaker are officially over, and the Packers have even been using Marcedes Lewis as a deep target when they want those type of routes from their tight end.
2019 Week 7 vs OAK (4 / 4 / 65 / 1 rec - 14.5 points, $5800)
Graham had his best game of the year by far, showing some moves after the catch, the ability to get open downfield, and even drawing a pass interference call inside the five. He had two targets in the red zone and one was an easy touchdown. He has returned to fantasy relevance with this performance.
2019 Week 6 vs DET (5 / 2 / 17 / 0 rec - 2.7 points, $5800)
Jimmy Graham caught two passes for 17 yards on five targets in the Packers win over the Lions on Monday night. It was the second straight week where Graham was unable to take advantage of Adams being on the sideline, despite seeing enough targets to at least put up a respectable stat line. The Packers have started to insert Marcedes Lewis and Robert Tonyan in certain situations, and it was Lewis who had the bigger game this week, catching two passes for 50 yards. Lewis gained 25 yards on each of his receptions, which is more than Graham has gained on any catch this season. Graham is no longer a reliable fantasy tight end, and he could see his time on the field diminish if he is unable to make plays when Rodgers calls on him.
2019 Week 5 vs DAL (3 / 3 / 41 / 0 rec - 5.6 points, $5500)
Jimmy Graham caught three passes on three targets for 41 yards in the Packers win over the Cowboys. With Adams out, Graham was looking at a game where he could see a multitude of targets, but saw only three despite running routes on 29 of Rodgers 34 passing attempts. Graham's biggest gain of the night came on a 23 yard reception where Rodgers was able to get outside the pocket and give Graham time to extend his route up the right sideline. Graham's targets have been inconsistent from game to game and it looks as though Adams injury will not result in him seeing more targets.
2019 Week 4 vs PHI (9 / 6 / 61 / 1 rec - 15.1 points, $4600)
Jimmy Graham caught six passes on seven targets for 61 yards and a touchdown in the Packers loss to the Eagles. After missing most of the last two weeks with an injury, Graham had his most productive game of the season, coming in behind only Adams in catches, yards and targets. Graham's touchdown catch came with the Packers facing a second and 10 from the Eagles 14 yard line. Rodgers took the snap out of the shotgun and after his drop back was faced with a pocket that was collapsing as well as an Eagles defender flying through the line unblocked. Rodgers took off to the right and then immediately threw on the run. He led tight Graham perfectly, as Graham had started on the inside right slot position and then run a shallow out pattern directly to the sideline. Graham gets some credit for creating this play, as when he saw his defender taking a bad angle towards him he broke off his route and ran up-field, similar to how a wheel route would play out. This allowed Rodgers to lead him to the end zone for an easy touchdown catch. Much has been made about the lack of chemistry between Rodgers and Graham, which should have eased a bit after this play, but Graham did not do himself any favors when he was unable to come down with two redzone targets from the one yard line. One of those plays looked really bad for Graham, as he turned around as Rodgers was throwing him the ball and never had a chance to make the reception. It is the type of play that gives a tight end an easy touchdown, but that is assuming the quarterback and tight end are on the same page, which cannot be said for Graham and Rodgers at this juncture.
2019 Week 3 vs DEN (1 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec - 0 points, $4900)
Jimmy Graham was not able to convert on his only target against the Broncos on Sunday. Coming into the game, Graham was questionable to play and it was clear that he should not have been on the field, as he was having trouble running routes and gaining leverage as a blocker. Marcedes Lewis and Robert Tonyan came in to relieve Graham, and they combined for two catches for 23 yards on five targets. Tonyan is the more athletic player of the two, and has some upside as a receiver but needs to become a more sound blocker if he wants to see the field when Graham is injured.
2019 Week 2 vs MIN (2 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec - 0 points, $5400)
Graham was called for offensive pass interference on his one reception. He doesn't appear to be a key part of the game plan.
2019 Week 1 vs CHI (6 / 3 / 30 / 1 rec - 10.5 points, $5100)
Jimmy Graham caught three passes for 30 yards and a touchdown on six targets in the Packers week one win against the Chicago Bears. Graham was tied with Valdes-Scantling for the second most targets for the Packers, and although is better days are behind him, Graham's understanding of how to shield off his defenders in the red zone paid big dividends for the Packers in this game. With the Packers facing a first and goal from the Bears eight yard line, Rodgers took the snap under center with Graham and Adams bunched up tight in the right slot. Rodgers quickly looked left, and then right before fading onto his heels, waiting to see if he could find anyone open in the end zone before he would have to throw the ball away. Rodgers saw Graham in one on one coverage and gave his tight end a chance to make a play on jump ball, which is exactly what Graham did by boxing out his defender and high pointing the ball for the game's only touchdown. Graham may not be an elite tight end at this stage of his career, but he still has the ability to be an elite red zone threat if given enough volume.
