Week 11: vs New Orleans Saints

All RB vs NO

FBG says: Tough matchup. The fantasy world would like to see another two-game sample of Ronald Jones leading the Tampa Bay backfield, but it may never come to be. One game after taking on 18 rushes in Week 9, Jones again fell even with Peyton Barber with 11 against the Cardinals. Frankly speaking, Jones hasn't earned the lead role by any stretch. Barber remains a plodding, one-speed runner, producing just 3.4 yards per attempt. But Jones, supposedly far more gifted and dynamic, has averaged only 3.4 of his own since Week 4. Coach Bruce Arians has long erred on the side of caution with his running game, leaning heavily on veteran fundamentals. As a result, Jones may never overtake Barber as the lead runner. Even if he does take on the lion's share in Week 11, he wouldn't project to much upside. The Saints boast a smothering run defense, and Jones isn't much of a factor near the goal line, making him one of the few low-impact pieces of the Buccaneers' offense. The Saints continue to boast one of football's stingiest run defenses. Since Week 1, they've allowed just a single runner to top 70 yards, and Leonard Fournette needed 20 attempts to do it. Along the way, the Saints have stifled the likes of Ezekiel Elliott (18 for 35), Todd Gurley (16 for 63), and Chris Carson (15 for 53). After years of flailing badly up front, they've packed the line with run-stuffers that set the table nicely. The unsung hero is tackle David Onyemata, who quietly makes plays against the run every week. On the second level, Demario Davis has shaken off a rough start to the season and remains a dependable playmaker. The linebackers get help from safety hybrid Vonn Bell, who has emerged as a star in run support. He's undersized for the role, but fearless in the box. Overall, it's hard to project much success in this matchup, even for productive ground games. Thus, the Buccaneers' punchless attack looks like a non-starter here.
