FBG says: Tough matchup. If not for the second-year leap from Baltimore's Lamar Jackson, Christian McCaffrey would already have the NFL MVP award locked up. On the ground, he continues to prove himself much more than a scatback, leading all qualifiers in both rushing yards and touchdowns on 20 rushes per game. His brilliance is all but matchup-proof; thus far, only the Buccaneers (who have done it twice) have been able to contain him below 70 yards. Against all other defenses, he's averaging 6.2 per rush and 124 a game. Those are video-game numbers, and they've become the norm for McCaffrey. He operates behind one of the game's best front lines, and he no longer battles Cam Newton for high-leverage opportunities. There's no better play in fantasy football as he continues to channel a Rams-era Marshall Faulk.
Before long, offenses may start punting the ground game when facing the Saints. Since a shaky Week 1, this unit has snapped firmly into place one of the league's most dominant. Over that span, the Saints have given up just 3.7 yards per rush and 75 a game. Only one opposing runner (Leonard Fournette) has crossed the 70-yard mark, and he averaged just 3.6 per carry in the process. In their defensive rebuild, the Saints have stocked all levels with tough, willing playmakers against the run. Linebacker Demario Davis leads the way, while safety hybrid Vonn Bell has opened new eyes this season with his run support. As long as this unit is healthy and engaged, this will remain a daunting fantasy matchup. Christian McCaffrey projects through the roof in any matchup, but he likely won't be handed much easily in Week 12. It's fair to expect an entertaining open-field battle between the game's most dynamic runner and this stingy Saints defense.
