RB Kendall Gaskins - Free Agent
|6-1, 238||Born: 11-4-1990||College: Richmond||Drafted: ---|
2015 Week 8 vs LA (5 / 6 / 0 rush, 3 / 2 / 17 / 0 rec)
Gaskins replaced Davis (who replaced Hyde), and his rushing results were equally unproductive. His receptions were more successful. They came on dumpoffs, and Gaskins showed good run-after-catch ability, making a move to evade a tackler along the sideline on one of them, and requiring six tacklers to go down on the other one.
2015 Week 9 vs ATL (7 / 20 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)
Gaskins was on the field in every short-yardage situation, including when San Francisco faced 3rd-and-goal from the 1-yard line. In those situations, he successfully converted a 4th-and-1 in the first quarter, but failed to convert a 3rd-and-1 near midfield as the 49ers were trying to extend their fourth-quarter lead. Later in the fourth, Gaskins was the primary back on their game-clinching drive that ran out the clock. And with 4 carries for 17 yards, he was the primary reason it was successful. All four runs were inside zone plays, and Gaskins used a jump cut to gain extra yardage on two of them.
2015 Week 15 vs CIN (2 / 0 / 0 rush, 7 / 6 / 52 / 0 rec)
Both of Gaskins' carries (and all of his snaps) came in the second half, when San Francisco mysteriously instituted a timeshare at running back over a full quarter after Shaun Draughn got hurt. Both of those carries went up the middle for no gain. Just as mysteriously, despite entering to fill the role of early-down runner, and despite Travaris Cadet being a better receiver, Gaskins morphed into the 49ers' primary receiver...and played well enough to deserve it. All of his targets were of the dumpoff variety, and all but one were due to Cincinnati surrendering short-yardage passes to avoid getting beat deep, but Gaskins made at least three nice catches on poorly thrown passes. His longest reception came on an option route in the red zone, where he beat Vontaze Burfict into the left flat, caught the ball in stride, and ran away from Burfict to earn 1st-and-goal at the 1-yard line. Unfortunately, Gaskins wasn't able to cash in with a run on the next play, so Bruce Miller vultured the touchdown.
