FBG says: Bad matchup. Carson Wentz came into the season with high expectations after two injury-filled seasons. The reality is he has not gotten back to that MVP level performance that he was at in 2017 before his knee injury. Wentz and this offense have thrown for 240 yards or less in four of their last five games. The reality is that this is an offense that has dealt with significant injury as DeSean Jackson is out for the season, Alshon Jeffery has been banged up, Nelson Agholor has struggled, and Zach Ertz has not seen the production that we have become accustomed to over the past few seasons. This is an offense that will need to get it figured out quickly as they are facing quite possibly the league's best secondary this week.
The Patriots secondary has been tremendous all season. While the competition has been lacking for a large portion of the season, the Patriots have allowed only one quarterback to throw for over 200 yards on the year, have allowed just three passing touchdowns all season, and have allowed only one wide receiver over 100 yards. This is a veteran group that plays a Dime defense as their base defense and essentially takeaway the pass as corners Jason McCourty, Stephon Gilmore, and Jonathan Jones are all playing at an elite level to go along with safeties Devin McCourty and Duron Harmon. This is a nightmare matchup for the Eagles with the Patriots coming off of a bye after their defense gave up 37 points last week.
