Week 11: at Cleveland Browns

All RB vs CLE

FBG says: Great matchup. The Steelers should get James Conner back this week which is a much-needed improvement to this backfield that had struggled with Jaylen Samuels as the main back. Samuels averaged just 1.8 yards per carry which led the team to give Tremaine Edmunds more playing time than previously anticipated. While Conner has not been as good as he was last year, primarily due to the offensive line play, he provides more consistency than what they previously had as he's averaging 3.9 yards per carry and looked like he was on an upward trajectory coming off a 145 yard game against the Dolphins before being injured. One of the recent concerns for the Steelers has been the offensive line play, but they should get Ramon Foster back this week after suffering a concussion. When healthy, this is one of the better offensive lines in the league led by Al Villanueva and David DeCastro. Last week, statistically the Browns run defense played much better, holding Frank Gore and Devin Singletary to just 54 yards which was the second-best performance on the year for the team who have struggled against the run. Don't be fooled by the yardage total as the weaknesses are still there, Singletary was slicing through this defense averaging 5.2 yards-per-carry, but mysteriously, the Bills only ran the ball 13 times between Gore and Singletary. This is still a defense that has its holes against running backs as they have allowed 5.0 yards per carry since Christian Kirksey was out in Week 3. If there is a bright spot for this Browns team is that they have buckled down in the Red Zone allowing only five rushing touchdowns on the year to opposing running backs. This is still a defense that lacks discipline as their defensive line consists of players who want to pass rush first putting a lot of pressure on the weak linebackers of the Browns.

2019 Week 9 vs IND (12 / 73 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)

The Steelers are now running a two running back set and whoever is the second running back is doing well. In Week 9, Edmunds got the run and showed some good ability. He did not display agility or overt athleticism or vision. Edmunds showed good play strength and toughness between the tackles. On Edmunds' first run of the game, and his career, he went for 45-yards. The rush went to the right side of the line where there was a gaping hole. Edmunds accelerated well through the line of scrimmage and was able to finish the run strong. While Edmunds filled in admirably for his injured backfield mates, he isn't stealing anyone's job.
