Week 11: vs Chicago Bears

All RB vs CHI

FBG says: Tough matchup. In close games this season, Todd Gurley typically plays approximately 75-percent of the Rams' offensive snaps. Unfortunately, due to a decreased workload and poor offensive line play, this has resulted in 0 100-yard games for Gurley this year. Last season, Gurley tallied 6 20-carry performances. However, he has recorded 0 such games through the first 9 games of this season. Additionally, the Rams' offensive line has been one of the worst in the NFL this season, lacking consistency regarding both the personnel on the field as well as their performance. The Rams lost two starters, Brian Allen and Rob Havenstein, to injury last weekend. The shuffling of previous starters and reserves throughout the lineup makes it unclear who will start for the team in week 11, but it will almost certainly result in a downgrade up-front. Todd Gurley has seen limited usage in 2019, which head coach and play-caller Sean McVay acknowledged after last week's loss to the Steelers. However, increased usage against the Chicago Bears' stout run defense may not be the best remedy for this struggling rushing attack. The Chicago Bears run defense ranks 4th in the NFL, allowing just 3.7 yards per carry this season. Their unit, headlined by Khalil Mack, has stifled rushing attacks by dominating in the trenches with sure tacklers filling in behind. Mack is tied atop the team's leaderboard in tackles for loss with breakout defensive tackle Nick Williams. Williams and Eddie Goldman have surprised many this season to make up one of the league's most-impressive defensive tackle pairings. At linebacker, the Bears lost their season-leader in tackles, Danny Trevathan, to a gruesome arm injury last week. In his place, Nick Kwiatkowski will step into a starting role. Kwiatkowski has been impressive in a small sample of playing time throughout his career, but the burden will be on second-year player Roquan Smith to step up and compensate for the loss of Trevathan in their defense. On the season, the Bears have only allowed 2 100-yard rushers. The Rams' offense has struggled to move the ball on the ground in 2019, and the Bears should be able to withstand the loss of Trevathan, but this is certainly a situation to keep an eye on. Overall, the Bears' defensive line should dominate the battle in the trenches against the Rams' horrendous offensive line, leaving Todd Gurley with very little room to run on Sunday night.
