Week 6: at Cleveland Browns

All WR vs CLE

FBG says: Good matchup. If there is one knock on Philip Rivers throughout his career it is that he has struggled at 1 PM Eastern Standard Time games. Over the last three seasons, Rivers has played in eight of these games and has a 56% or less completion percentage in seven of these contests. The one game in which Rivers did exceed this was a masterful performance against Buffalo earlier this season in which he completed 85% of his passes. This most recent Buffalo game is in line with the season Rivers is having as he is off to a career year so far completing 70% of his passes and is on pace to break nearly every statistical career record that he has had in his career. A big reason for this is the amount of talent he has at the receiver position with Keenan Allen, Mike Williams and Tyrell Williams which is one of the more underrated units in football but is certainly dangerous when you combine these receivers with Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler. This is likely the most talented group Rivers has ever had and he is showing it off with some incredibly impressive performances this year. The Browns secondary is a unit that statistically has been much worse than they have actually performed. On the season, the Browns are allowing 281 net passing yards per game which is 27th in the league, but are a much more talented unit than what their statistics have shown. Denzel Ward is turning into a shadow corner, and on the other side, E.J. Gaines has been playing well. The issue for the Browns is really two-fold. They primarily play a base 4-3 defense not playing a lot of nickel package which the Browns linebackers to cover receivers. The Browns have also failed to stop opposing running backs as they have allowed six or more receptions to opposing running backs in four of their five games this season which could lead to a big opportunity for Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler.
