Week 14: vs Cincinnati Bengals

All TE vs CIN

FBG says: Great matchup. Philip Rivers is having a quietly fantastic season. His 9.0 yards per attempt is third-best in the league amongst full-time starters and is the highest of his 15-year career. Rivers ranks 6th in the NFL in passing yards despite attempting just the 15th-most passes. Keenan Allen has been the go-to target, especially of late. Since Week 9, he leads the league in receptions (42), and is third in receiving yards (490) and receiving touchdowns (4). Outside of Allen however, the Chargers have yet to find consistency amongst their other receivers and so far on the season they have not had to as they have filled the roles with their running backs in Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler. With Gordon out, Ekeler has been forced into a larger role in the offense as he has caught 15 passes over the last two weeks. The issue for the Chargers has been a consistent volume in pass attempts as the team has thrown for the eighth fewest pass attempts and the eighth-most yards indicating when they throw they are highly efficient. The Bengals defense continues to be one of the worst in football on the season as no team has allowed more fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. From a statistical standpoint, the Bengals defense has improved in recent weeks, but this is largely due to a combination of their run defense being unable to stop anyone and the Bengals offense being unable to consistently move the ball. After giving up 350 or more passing yards five times in the first eight weeks, the Bengals haven't allowed more than 265 passing yards to any opponent since Week 8. The biggest hole in the pass defense has been in the middle of the field, where the linebackers have been a major liability in coverage. The Bengals have allowed the third-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends and are tied for most passing touchdowns allowed to opposing running backs. Linebackers Vontaze Burfict, Hardy Nickerson, and Jordan Evans have been abysmal in coverage. Nick Vigil, who returned to action last week after a long absence, is the team's best linebacker against the pass and provides a small boost. At the corner position, the Bengals are looking like they will be without Dre Kirkpatrick this week as he is in a walking boot which will force fifth-round rookie Darius Phillips to the outside as Darqueze Dennard will likely slide down to the slot to the slot in the Nickel position.
