Game Recaps

2019 Week 6 vs KC (6 / 4 / 39 / 0 rec)

Coutee has been put back into the slot wide receiver role for the offense, and he has been more a scheme opener for others than a real threat for the offense. He did have four receptions for 39 yards, but he is being targeted to defeat the blitz. He has a good synergy with Watson to be his hot read in those blitz looks, which gives him some easy receptions in this offense.

2019 Week 7 vs IND (5 / 3 / 25 / 0 rec, 1 / 4 / 1 rush)

Coutee's usage continues to go up, and with injuries around him, his spot remains safe. Coutee did have a four-yard touchdown run that saw him run an option look with Deshaun Watson. Watson pitched him the ball late, and he snagged it with one hand to job into the end zone for the first touchdown of the game. Coutee was also able to catch three passes for 25 yards, with his longest reception being 13-yards. He did have a costly drop late in the game when the Texans were driving for the potential game-winning drive. Watson hit Coutee in the hands, but he was unable to corral the throw in which the ball bounced into a Colts defender's hands to end the game.

2018 Week 4 vs IND (15 / 11 / 109 / 0 rec, 2 / -2 / 0 rush)

There was a reason for the Texans inserting Keke Coutee into the starting role immediately during mini-camp, OTAs and training camp and the nearly two month wait for his NFL debut was worth it. Coutee put up 11 reception for 109 yards and was the primary target after Fuller went out and the Colts starting doubling Hopkins later in the game. Coutee also chipped in 2 carries for -2 yards but there are doing things in the scheme to get Coutee involved as a pass catching threat. More impressive was the impact Coutee was able to make for the offense was his ability to eat up yards after the catch. He had 96 yards after the catch and his biggest reception came on a key third down late in the game where he caught a 13 yard pass getting both feet inbounds before being knocked out of bounds. It will be interesting to see how target shares end up when all three of Hopkins, Coutee and Fuller are on the field at once but for now Coutee offers much intrigue to an already potent but growing Texans offense.

2018 Week 5 vs DAL (7 / 6 / 51 / 1 rec, 1 / 2 / 0 rush)

It was a slow day for Coutee but he did start the scoring off with a 1-yard jet sweep for a touchdown by dipping and diving into the end zone. After that, he was quiet until late in the game coming up with some key receptions. He had an impressive 18 yard catch on a key 3rd down play late in the game. He also had receptions for 12, 10 and 8 giving Watson another target in the middle of the field. Like last week, Coutee is finally the slot receiver this offense has been searching for.

2018 Week 6 vs BUF (5 / 3 / 33 / 0 rec)

The Texans continue to work to find ways to get the rookie slot receiver involved in the offense and he just missed a touchdown on a jet sweep for a -1 loss leaving him short of the goal line. He was also in line for a big gain until a Bills defensive back made a diving play to break up a pass right before it hit his hands. Coutee's longest reception came on a 22-yard catch and run in the 1st quarter but after that he was kept silent. He did have a 12-yard gain on a smoke screen that saw him catch and eat up yards but other than that it was a slow day. It is clear that the Texans want him in the offense and he will continue to get targets.

2018 Week 11 vs WAS (9 / 5 / 77 / 0 rec)

After missing the past two games, Keke Coutee arrived and continued to make plays. Coutee had 77 yards receiving and he put up 61 yards after the catch. The most impressive catch came on a simple out route and he turned it up for a 40 yard gain. Coutee continues to get targets plenty as a receiver and led the Texans in that department. He is the main check down for Watson and he is turning into a reliable target and playmaker for the offense.

2018 Week 12 vs TEN (2 / 2 / 14 / 0 rec)

Coutee left the game with another hamstring injury after two short receptions. He has a chance to play next week, but will be very risky upon return no matter when it happens.

2018 Week 18 vs IND (14 / 11 / 110 / 1 rec)

The Texans waited nearly two months to get the rookie back on the field and Keke Coutee did not disappoint. Coutee put up 11 receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown reception came on a 6-yard dump off where he raced the defender to the pylon and dove with the ball in his right hand for a touchdown. Coutee also added a 20-yard catch and run which appears to be on his biggest strengths as a receiver. He did damage with crossing routes and check downs when he was in motion but it is clear that he is one of Watson's favorite targets on the field.
