News you need to know
From the upgrade/downgrade report (Tue Sep 15): Conner is already nicked with an ankle injury and he didn't look as good as Benny Snell anyway. He might not be the clear lead back when he is ready to play again if Snell continues to impress.
General News (Fri Sep 18): practiced fully on Friday and is not on the team's injury report. He will be available to play this week.
General News (Thu Sep 17): practiced fully on Thursday. Things change pretty quickly around here. Conner did not participate in practice on Wednesday and is a full participant on Thursday. He's supposed to be the team's lead back if healthy but Benny Snell looked better in relief of Conner against the Giants in Week 1. Perhaps the Steelers split touches to keep Conner fresh. Watch to see what he can do in Friday's practice.
General News (Wed Sep 16): did not practice on Wednesday.
General News (Tue Sep 15): Conner won't be ruled out for Week 2, according to head coach Mike Tomlin, who said they'll leave the light on for him.
General News (Tue Sep 15): suffered an ankle injury in the team's Week 1 game. Conner was to be examined Tuesday, Sept. 15. A source said the team is "optimistic for a timely return," according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Latest NewsSteelers | James Conner returns with a vengeance (Mon Sep 21, 03:14 AM) - Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries and added two catches on as many targets for 15 more yards in Week 2 against the Denver Broncos. link to story Steelers | James Conner, Benny Snell to split carries (Sun Sep 20, 11:14 AM) - Pittsburgh Steelers RBs James Conner and Benny Snell will reportedly split carries during Week 2's game against the Denver Broncos. Our View: Neither are good plays against a Broncos defense that held tough against Derrick Henry last week. This situation should resolve itself once one of the backs clearly outplays the other.
link to story Steelers | Pittsburgh's injury report for Week 2 (Fri Sep 18, 03:33 PM) - Pittsburgh Steelers OL Stefen Wisniewski (chest) and OG David DeCastro (knee) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 2 against the Denver Broncos. QB Ben Roethlisberger (coach's decision), WR Diontae Johnson (toe), WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee), RB James Conner (ankle), C Maurkice Pouncey (coach's decision), OT Alejandro Villanueva (illness) and DE Stephon Tuitt (Achilles) practiced in full Friday, Sept. 18, and no longer appear on the injury report. Our View: The Steelers will be starting Kevin Dotson and Chuks Okorafor on the offensive line against the Broncos. They have used up their depth on the offensive line and we are only headed into Week 2. This could be a problem as we get further into the season.
link to story Steelers | James Conner good to go for Week 2 (Fri Sep 18, 02:43 PM) - Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner (ankle) was taken off the injury report Friday, Sept. 18, clearing the path for him to play in Week 2 against the Denver Broncos. Our View: Conner will start but Benny Snell should get mixed in and Conner should feel pressure to perform after Snell looked so good in his absence last week. Conner is just a boom/bust RB2/Flex this week vs Denver.
link to story Steelers | James Conner optimistic about status (Fri Sep 18, 12:50 PM) - Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner (ankle) said Friday, Sept. 18, that things are 'definitely trending in the right direction' for Week 2 after practicing Wednesday and Thursday. Our View: If Conner is active it probably just functions to keep both him and Benny Snell on our benches until this situation resolves itself. Whether Conner was out due to an injury or something else, Snell showed enough for the Steelers to be open to making a change at starting running back if the performances don't change dramatically.
