WR Deontay Burnett - New York Jets
|6-0, 170||Born: 10-4-1997||College: Southern California||Drafted: ---|
2018 Week 7 vs MIN (2 / 1 / 9 / 0 rec)
The hope for some Jets fans was that Sam Darnold and Burnett might recapture some of their mojo from when they were both at the University of Southern California, but that didn't happen. Burnett's routes lead one to think he needs a little more time with the playbook, and he and Darnold were definitely not quite on the same page.
2018 Week 8 vs CHI (4 / 4 / 61 / 0 rec)
Sam Darnold's old college teammate caught all the passes thrown his way, and showed some decent chemistry with the rookie quarterback. He made a really nice play in tracking and catching a ball which Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller had pretty much in his hands, but Burnett pulled it away to save Darnold from an interception.
2018 Week 16 vs GB (2 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)
While there was some hope that Burnett and quarterback Sam Darnold - who were teammates at USC - might have some chemistry, that hasn't happened. Burnett missed on both of his targets and if it wasn't for the long list of injuries at the position, he might not be active on a consistent basis.
2018 Week 17 vs NE (5 / 5 / 73 / 0 rec)
The chemistry between Sam Darnold and his former teammate Burnett paid off inconsistently over the last month, with Week 17 becoming a notch in the 'positive' column. Burnett was on the receiving end of one of Darnold's best passes this week, while running a crisp deep out where he momentarily shook coverage and then made a great catch going backwards out of bounds while keeping both feet in. Burnett may not survive the offseason - an undrafted free agent with Robby Anderson and Quincy Enunwa is up against the wall - but he's shown flashes at times.
