Week 7: vs Kansas City Chiefs
All RB vs KC
FBG says: Great matchup. The Broncos ground game has got off to a respectable start this season with above-average yards per carry (4.4) and rushing yards per game (116) metrics. Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman continue to split snaps at a nearly-even rate, but Lindsay has out-touched Freeman on the ground in all six games while looking like the better rusher overall. Lindsay now has scored four times in as many games while averaging 5.3 yards per carry over that span, which included games against stout run defenses like the Titans, Packers, and Jaguars. Royce Freeman is still seeing near double-digit rushes in each game though, so both running backs will have a capped ceiling in this timeshare. This offensive line has steadily improved in recent weeks as they have helped support over 100 total rushing yards and at least 1 rushing touchdown in three of the last four games. Garrett Boles is looking better while Elijah Wilkinson is playing well in replacement of injured tackle Ja'Wuan James, who remains questionable for this Thursday night game. Overall, the Broncos offensive line is now an average unit supporting a solid ground game.
The Chiefs own one of the worst rushing defenses in football, which was on full display last week as the Texans ran to the tune of 192 yards and three rushing touchdowns against them. On the season, the Chiefs are now giving up the second-most rushing yards (136) and fifth-most fantasy points per game (non-PPR) to opposing running backs. Teams' starting running backs have ran for at least 99 yards in five straight games against this defense. The absences of defensive linemen Chris Jones and Xavier Williams were huge last week as the average offensive line of the Texans basically had their way in the trenches. All Chiefs linebackers have also struggled against the run this season without a single standout at the position. With no return in sight for Jones, this group remains one of the most exploitable units out there.
