Recent Game Summaries
2019 Week 17 vs GB (12 / 29 / 122 / 0 / 1 pass, 2 / 11 / 0 rush)
David Blough struggled against the Packers on Sunday in a loss. Blough has been consistently held back by limited arm strength this season in place of starter Matthew Stafford. Blough was held back by some drops, including a drop by Chris Lacy in the end zone, but his struggles were largely his own fault. Blough was inaccurate, particularly when throwing to the perimeter, and held onto the ball too long. His interception was a late throw over the middle that was an easy interception and had another ball nearly intercepted on the perimeter. Blough's fantasy day was buoyed by a touchdown reception on a gadget play. The Lions will return Matthew Stafford in 2020 and Blough could face competition for the backup quarterback spot on the roster.
2019 Week 16 vs DEN (12 / 24 / 117 / 1 / 0 pass, 0 / 0 / 0 rush)
David Blough started again in place of the injured Matthew Stafford and struggled. Blough showed limited arm strength and struggled with accuracy against the Broncos. Blough scored a touchdown on a pass to Kenny Golladay at the end zone and avoided interceptions, but took four sacks and failed to consistently move the offense. Blough will face Green Bay in week 17.
2019 Week 15 vs TB (24 / 43 / 260 / 0 / 2 pass, 5 / 19 / 0 rush)
David Blough struggled against the Tampa Bay defense in a loss on Sunday. Blough was bad early, missing throws and struggling with decision-making. Blough was hurt by a couple of drops, but his poor performance was a result of poor arm strength and bad throws. Blough was intercepted twice, including a throw late over the middle that sailed because he threw off his back foot, and an out route where he stared down his receiver for a pick-6. He had a shot for a touchdown on a long throw to Danny Amendola who was tackled inside the 5-yard line, and another throw on the same drive where Amenolda was tackled just short of the end zone. Blough will get a tough matchup against the Broncos and should be nowhere near lineups.
2019 Week 14 vs MIN (24 / 40 / 205 / 1 / 2 pass, 0 / 0 / 0 rush)
David Blough struggled in his second career start against the Vikings on Sunday. Blough was under pressure frequently and struggled with accuracy when he was forced to move his feet, including sailing an interception down the middle of the field. Blough was also picked off late in the game in the end zone. He did throw a touchdown pass to Kenny Golladay in the end zone in contested coverage. Blough has arm strength limitations, which were on display during the game. He also struggled with decision-making, including taking multiple bad sacks during the game. Blough will get a good matchup next week against Tampa Bay at home.
2019 Week 13 vs CHI (22 / 38 / 280 / 2 / 1 pass, 1 / 1 / 0 rush)
David Blough had a good performance in his first career start against a tough Bears defense on Thanksgiving Day. Blough started because Matthew Stafford and backup Jeff Driskel missed the game with injuries. Blough threw two touchdowns on the game. The first was to Kenny Golladay on a double move for 75 yards on the Detroit Possession. He later threw a touchdown to Marvin Jones in the red zone. Blough does not have a great arm, but played on time and made good decisions for his first NFL start. He could have had a better day but was consistently hampered by drops and penalties that set the Lions behind in down and distances. Blough was leading a good final drive before his scramble for a first down was called back by penalty. He then took a bad sack and threw a desperation interception on fourth and long. Driskel was placed on injured reserve over the weekend, so Blough is likely to get another start if Matthew Stafford cannot play. Detroit has a long rest before facing a tough Minnesota team in week 14 on the road. Blough would have a good matchup at home in week 15 against Tampa Bay if Stafford does not return.
