He had an amazing run in at the end of the 1st quarter where he was nearly pushed out of bounds but somehow broke a couple of tackles while dancing down the sideline for a 14 yard gain. In a familiar scenario for Tampa Bay, the Bucs fell behind early and had to abandon the run game. Passing down specialist Rodgers piled up over 100 yards receiving on 8 targets as Barber and the ground game took a back seat. Barber caught a short out route in the 2nd quarter for a gain of 5.

He was effective on the ground, picking up good chunk yardage on several carries throughout the contest. Jones exited the game in the 2nd quarter after relieving Barber for a series and injuring his hamstring. Barber was called upon to punch the ball in when an Adam Humphries touchdown catch was reviewed and ruled down inside the 1 yard line. Barber was not targeted in the passing game, though backup Jacquizz Rodgers did pick up 4 targets. Barber had 18 carries to Jones(2) and Rodgers(1).

Barber dominated the snaps in the backfield until he left the game with an undisclosed injury in the 3rd quarter. Barber was dropped in his own end zone for a safety on the Bucs' opening drive. Cleveland downed the ball inside Tampa Bay's 1 yard line, and Barber's offensive line couldn't generate enough push to get him out of the end zone. Shortly after the drop, he disappeared from the game though the Bucs did not comment on his injury. Ronald Jones and Jacquizz Rodgers picked up the slack in his absence, logging extra snaps in the 4th quarter and overtime.
2018 Week 6 vs ATL (13 / 82 / 0 rush, 4 / 4 / 24 / 1 rec)
Barber got the start and the majority of the snaps in the backfield. Ronald Jones made just a few brief appearances to relieve him, and Jacquizz Rodgers only played special teams. He got involved in the passing game early, catching a checkdown out of the backfield for a 9 yard gain in the 1st quarter. Barber got a goal line carry from the 2 yard line in the 3rd quarter, but was stonewalled at the line of scrimmage. The Bucs were backed up by a false start penalty on the next play and Winston threw an interception on the next, killing the drive. Barber peeled off another nice run at the end of the 3rd quarter, taking a pitch around the left end and juking several tacklers for a gain of 20 yards. Barber's hard running kept the Atlanta defense honest, and the Bucs used a play action pass from a goal line set to get WR Godwin wide open at the end of an early 4th quarter drive. Barber caught a screen out of the backfield later in the 4th, then capped the drive with a short touchdown reception. 2018 Week 4 vs CHI (7 / 24 / 0 rush, 2 / 1 / 6 / 0 rec)

Barber had some success up the middle in the 1st quarter. He nearly scored on an 18 yard run, but was tripped up by a defender inside the Steelers 5 yard line. The Bucs faked a play action to Barber on the next play and scored with a pass to Brate. Barber got another goal line carry from the 5 at the end of the 2nd quarter, but he couldn't punch it in. The Bucs quickly fell behind and Barber was essentially phased out by the game plan, as he logged a few more carries to keep the defense honest on the play-action deep balls that Fitzpatrick was lobbing downfield for Evans and Godwin. Barber got once more goal line carry from the 4 yard line in the 2nd half, but couldn't punch it in. He was targeted twice on checkdown passes, but could not secure either target.
2018 Week 2 vs PHI (16 / 22 / 0 rush, 2 / 1 / 7 / 0 rec)
The Tampa Bay running game didn't contribute much other than keeping the Philadelphia defense honest on play action passes. Barber, who averaged less than 2 yards a carry, is the clear lead in the backfield, but there just isn't much room to run right now. Barber picked up a couple of targets in the passing game, securing an out route to pick up a first down in the first half.
2018 Week 1 vs NO (19 / 69 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)
Barber had a solid but unspectacular game as Ryan Fitzpatrick and the receiving core lit it up. Barber drew the start, breaking his longest run off left tackle for a 23 yard gain in the first quarter. The Bucs kept running just enough to make the play action effective. Barber had a goal line touchdown vultured by Fitzpatrick in the 1st, as the QB faked a handoff and a rolled out on a bootleg, punching the ball in himself. Barber got a couple more carries inside the five yard line later in the third quarter, but was unable to find the end zone. The Bucs used Barber to grind clock in the 4th quarter as they held off Drew Brees and the Saints offense. Barber wasn't target in the passing game, but backup Jacquizz Rodgers only logged 3 touches to Barber's 19.

They re-signed him to a one-year, $2.1 million contract earlier this month. Barber will have competition for touches from second-year pro Ronald Jones.
