RB Joe Banyard - Free Agent
|5-11, 205||Born: 11-12-1988||College: UTEP||Drafted: ---|
2014 Week 12 vs GB (5 / 26 / 0 rush, 3 / 3 / 19 / 0 rec)
It seems like a lot has been made about Banyard's debut, and how much better his yards per carry average was than Jerrick McKinnon. What is being ignored is that McKinnon had three times the carries in much different situation. Without a doubt Banyard ran hard and did a good job gaining extra yards after contact. But until we see a more consistent number of carries, it's hard to get too enthusiastic.
2014 Week 13 vs CAR (2 / 8 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)
While he only saw two carries, the rookie did a nice job bouncing his runs outside where there wasn't anywhere to go. He showed some good speed on both runs, but in both cases was taken down by the first defender who attempted to tackle him.
2014 Week 14 vs NYJ (1 / 9 / 0 rush, 1 / 1 / 12 / 0 rec)
Banyard only saw two touches in the second quarter, but looked good on both his run and his reception. However, with just two touches, there is no indication whether he would be successful or not if given more touches.
2014 Week 15 vs DET (2 / 2 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)
Banyard didn't get much work on Sunday, running the ball twice, once or four yards and the second time for negative yards as he was stuffed at the line. His role continues to be nothing more than deep bench backup for the Vikings.
2014 Week 16 vs MIA (5 / 23 / 0 rush, 3 / 2 / 9 / 0 rec)
Banyard was solid in relief of Matt Asiata, but didn't get much work. He did a nice job both getting to the edge and running between the tackles, but it appears as though he still hasn't shown enough to convince the staff that he deserves a bigger role.
2014 Week 17 vs CHI (6 / 20 / 0 rush, 2 / 1 / 11 / 0 rec)
The rookie wasn't asked to do all that much on Sunday, carrying the ball just a handful of times as the Vikings were content to ride Matt Asiata, who was having a solid day. He did see work on special teams but otherwise saw very little of the field.
