|6-4, 220||Born: 9-16-1994||College: Oklahoma State||Drafted: Round 7, pick 228 (2018)|
2019 Week 17 vs DEN (7 / 3 / 46 / 0 rec)
Tyrell Williams played limited snaps, which opened the door for Ateman at the X-receiver position. He played a season-high 52 snaps (71%) and was targeted 7 times. Things started poorly for Ateman. He caught his only first-half target for a 20-yard gain but was stood up and had the ball ripped out of his hands before he went to the ground. The turnover led to the Broncos only touchdown of the game and was one of the key plays of the game. Ateman came up with a clutch diving grab along the sideline for an 11-yard gain. The catch came on 4th-and-2 in the final minute of the game as the Raiders were mounting a potential game-winning drive.
2018 Week 11 vs ARI (5 / 4 / 50 / 0 rec)
One of the few bright spots for the Raiders was the play of Marcell Ateman. He played nearly every snap and looks locked into a starting role moving forward. After the injury to Brandon LaFell, Ateman was one of the prime beneficiaries and he led the team in receiving yards and tied for the lead in targets. He caught a quick screen and took it for a modest gain early. It wasn't until the final, game-winning drive that Carr locked on to Ateman. He hit him for a 9-yard gain on an out route along the right sideline. A couple plays later, Ateman made the biggest play of the game -- getting behind the corner on a go route down the left sideline and hauling in a 32-yard catch to get the Raiders in position for the game-winning field goal. Carr went right back to him on the next play but couldn't connect.
2018 Week 12 vs BAL (10 / 3 / 16 / 0 rec)
From a fantasy perspective, there was good news and bad news for Ateman. The positive was that he had a whopping 63% of the wide receiver targets and 29% target share overall, clearly operating as the WR1. The bad was that he managed just 1.8 yards per target, completely failing to take advantage of the massive opportunity he was presented with. The Raiders tried to get Ateman going on the opening drive with an easy completion on a short out route from the slot, but he dropped the perfect pass. While some of the struggles were on Ateman, the lack of success wasn't all his fault. He was credited with a target on a pass in his direction that Terrell Suggs leaped and almost intercepted at the line of scrimmage. A target on a deep post was thrown way too far in front of him. Ateman had some separation deep down he field on a play where Carr scrambled to buy time and might have been able to score a 59-yard touchdown but Carr overthrew him. Ateman's best play of the day came on a 3rd-and-10 where he caught the ball short of the marker but used his size to push the smaller corner back and pick up 11 yards. Carr went right back to him on the next 3rd and long and Ateman nearly made an impressive contested grab but dropped the ball as he went to the ground.
2018 Week 13 vs KC (4 / 2 / 16 / 1 rec)
Ateman almost brought in a 33-yard touchdown catch from Carr on a scramble drill play where Carr bought time maneuvering in the pocket and pointed to Ateman where he wanted him to go. Ateman went up and had both hands on it and looked like he was able to toe tap along the back line of the end zone, but wasn't able to control the ball to the ground. Ateman caught a back-shoulder fade for a 9-yard touchdown. He got away with a push off against the much smaller cornerback and then boxed him out to make the catch.
2018 Week 14 vs PIT (4 / 3 / 45 / 0 rec)
Ateman wasn't targeted at all the first three quarters. He wasn't on the same page with Carr on a third-down incompletion early in the fourth quarter and Carr let him know about it on the sideline. Carr went right back to the rookie early on the next drive, though. Ateman was matched up on a linebacker and was able to haul in an over the shoulder grab for 28 yards. He made a diving grab across the middle with a defender hanging on him for an 8-yard gain. All three of Ateman's catches came on the Raiders two late touchdown drives.
2018 Week 15 vs CIN (5 / 2 / 20 / 0 rec)
A miscommunication between Ateman and Carr nearly led to a pick six on the opening possession. Carr expected Ateman to cut more to the inside and his route instead let the safety get between him and the quarterback for what should have been an easy interception that was dropped. Ateman caught a 12-yard pass on a slant route.
2018 Week 16 vs DEN (0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)
Ateman played 47 of 62 snaps, second-most amongst the receivers, but wasn't targeted at all. He was flagged for a false start.
2018 Week 17 vs KC (3 / 1 / 7 / 0 rec)
Ateman wasn't able to stay inbounds on a sliding catch along the sideline that would have gone for a 15-yard gain. His only catch of the day came on a quick dump off.
